Bűnösnek vallotta magát a 39 éves Jesse Kipf egy bírósági tárgyaláson, miután kiderült, hogy megrendezte a halálát.

A Huffington Post azt írja, hogy a férfi 116 ezer dollárral (kb. 40 millió forinttal) tartozik a nejének. Kipf a tartásdíjon felül 80 ezer dollárt kell fizessen Hawaii államnak, miután feltörte egy hawaii orvos számítógépét, így ki tudott állítani magának egy halotti bizonyítványt.
