A P&O Cruises nevű vállalat Iona nevű tengerjáró hajója, amely több mint 5000 utast és 1800 alkalmazottat szállít, jelenleg egy észak-európai körutazáson van, de a nyaralás gyorsan rémálommá vált – olvasható a Sky News-on.
A fedélzeten kitört gyomor-bélrendszeri fertőzés – valószínűleg norovírus miatt – a helyzet katasztrofális, és egyre több embert érint a rosszullét.
„Az emberek úgy hullanak, mint a legyek” – mesélte egyik utas, aki arról is beszélt, hogy a fertőzés miatt a számos programot el kellett halasztani.
A helyzetet ezen felül az is súlyosbítja, hogy a hajó orvosi központja nem tud megfelelő gyógyszereket biztosítani a jelenlegi állapotokra. A P&O Cruises közölte, hogy a fertőzött utasok teljes visszatérítést kapnak, ha nem tudtak részt venni a part menti programokon.
A hajó személyzete a helyi közegészségügyi hatóságokkal együtt dolgozik a fertőzés terjedésének megállításán. A P&O Cruises vezetősége hangsúlyozta: mindent elkövetnek a fertőzés további terjedésének megfékezésére, és az utasok biztonságát helyezik előtérbe.

Kigyulladt a világ legnagyobb óceánjárója, alig egy hónappal azután, hogy egy utasuk a halálba zuhant a hajóról.
A Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas hajója a mexikói Costa Mayában kötött ki, amikor kisebb tűz ütött ki, a hajó pedig biztonsági okokból azonnal megszakította az áramellátást a fedélzeten. A lángok a legénység egyik helyiségében keletkeztek, de gyorsan eloltották a tüzet, sérülés nem történt.
A kisebb tűzeset nem az első említésre méltó incidens az Icon of the Season, mióta januárban elindult első útjára. Májusban egy utas leugrott a több mint 350 méter magas tengerjáróról. A hajó akkor 500 kilométerre volt a szárazföldtől. A férfi nem élte túl a zuhanást.
Egy hónappal korábban a Royal Caribbean egy másik óceánjárójáról ugrott a vízbe egy fiú, miután ittas állapotban összeveszett az apjával. Az ő holttestét azóta sem találták meg.

A New York Post beszámolója szerint a floridai hatóságok nagyszabású nyomozást indítottak, miután egy tengerjáró utasának rejtélyes módon nyoma veszett, mégpedig nem sokkal azelőtt, hogy a hajó hétfőn visszatért Miami kikötőjébe.
Kifejtették, a 26 éves Kevin McGrath a bahamai Biminibe tartó Carnival Cruise fedélzetén tartózkodott, s a visszaút előtti napon a családjával kellett volna találkoznia a reggelinél, ám már ott sem jelent meg. Illetve a „kiterjedt keresést” követően sem találták meg.
A férfi családja hétfőn reggel 7 óra körül jelentette az eltűnését, a hajótársaság pedig a parti őrséggel és a miami rendőrséggel is kapcsolatba lépett. A Carnival Cruise szóvivője hozzátette, a biztonsági kamerarendszerek nem rögzítették, hogy McGrath a vízbe esett volna.
Az viszont kiderült, hogy az eltűnt utast hétfőn hajnali 2 óra körül látták utoljára, akkor fekete inget, rövidnadrágot és szürke cipőt viselt. A hatóságok kiemelték, ha bárki információval rendelkezik McGrath holléte felől, vagy az eltűnése kapcsán, vegye fel velük a kapcsolatot.
A Fox News szerint a parti őrség helikopterrel is kutatott a barna hajú, barna szemű, körülbelül 175 centi magas és 77 kiló súlyú férfi után, ám egyelőre nem jártak sikerrel. De a lap arra is kitért, egy héttel korábban hasonló eset történt a Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas tengerjárón, akkor egy 19 éves egyetemista tűnt el, miután a hajóról a vízbe zuhant. A holttestét azóta sem találták meg.
