A dél-afrikai rendőrség tűzpárbaj során kiszabadította a múlt héten elrabolt amerikai lelkészt, aki csodával határos módon épségben került elő – számolt be az MTI.
A 45 éves Josh Sullivant a múlt héten rabolták el fegyveresek a dél-afrikai Gqeberha kikötőváros mellett, miközben prédikációt tartott egy helyi templomban. A fegyveresek a foglyul ejtett lelkészt az autójába kényszerítették, és azzal hajtottak el a helyszínről, majd az autót a templomtól mintegy 1,5 kilométerre hátrahagyták, onnan pedig ismeretlen irányba menekültek tovább.
A rendőrség különleges egysége közölte, hogy a lelkészt ugyanabban a városban szabadították ki, ahol elrabolták.
A rendőrség jelentése szerint a rendfenntartó erők „nagy intenzitású tűzharc” során három gyanúsítottal végeztek. Sullivant ugyanabban a járműben találták meg, amelyből a gyanúsítottak a támadást indították. Csodával határos módon a lelkésznek nem esett bántódása, az orvosi vizsgálat szerint kiváló egészségnek örvend – tették hozzá.
A növekvő szegénység és a társadalmi egyenlőtlenségek miatt az utóbbi években jelentősen megemelkedett a fegyveres bűnbandák által elkövetett emberrablások száma a Dél-afrikai Köztársaságban. A helyi rendőrségi statisztika szerint az elmúlt két év folyamán több mint 17 ezer emberrablás történt az országban, ami 11 százalékos növekedésnek felel meg az azt megelőző 2022-es év átlagához képest. A szervezett bűnözői csoportok főleg olyan személyeket rabolnak el, akiknek a szabadon engedéséért nagy összegű váltságdíj kifizetését remélik.

Több száz fegyverre bukkantak a koszovói rendőrök abban az észak-koszovói faluban, ahol vasárnap lövöldözés tört ki szerb nemzetiségű maszkos fegyveresek és koszovói rendőrök között.
A rendőrség tájékoztatása szerint több száz fegyvert, valamint katonai felszereléseket találtak Bajske faluban egy lakóházban és több járműben ott, ahol egy nappal korábban két, rendszámtábla nélküli teherautó zárta el a forgalmat a helyi hídon. Amikor a rendőrök intézkedni akartak, rájuk lőttek.
A tűzharcban egy rendőr meghalt, három megsebesült, három támadót lelőttek, kettőt megsebesítettek, ötöt pedig letartóztattak a rendőrök.
