Több helyen is zavargások törtek ki Franciaországban és Belgiumban azt követően, hogy a franciák szerda este 2–0-ra legyőzték Marokkót a katari labdarúgó-világbajnokságon. A hatóságok több ezer rohamrendőrt vetettek be, többen megsérültek és egy 14 éves tinédzser meghalt.
A franciák győzelméről ebben a cikkünkben számoltunk be. Azt már a mérkőzés közben is tudni lehetett, hogy a francia hatóságok jelentős óvintézkedéseket tettek: egyedül a párizsi Champs-Élysées-n 2200 rohamrendőrt helyeztek készenlétbe. Ugyanis néhány napja, Marokkó és Franciaország továbbjutásakor már elszabadult a pokol Párizsban (előtte pedig Brüsszelben voltak többször is hasonló esetek).
Nem volt ez másképp most sem, amikor a két csapat közül már csak az egyik juthatott tovább. A demonstrálók több francia városban is összecsaptak a kivezényelt rohamrendőrökkel. Az alábbi videó például Montpellier-ben készült.
Montpellier mellett Nizzában és Párizsban is összecsaptak a szurkolók a rendőrökkel. A legsúlyosabb incidens azonban Montpellier-ben volt, ott ugyanis egy 14 éves kamasz is életét vesztette.
A DailyMail szerint a fiatal több szurkolóval együtt megrohamozott egy francia zászlós autót. A sofőr erre bepánikolt, tett egy hajtűkanyart, és elhajtott a helyszínről, de közben elütötte a fiatalt, akit egy közeli kórházba szállítottak ugyan, de nem tudták megmenteni az életét.
Belgiumban sem volt jobb a helyzet, ahol az utcákon megint rongálásba kezdtek a marokkói csapat szurkolói.
Egy, a franciákkal szimpatizáló helyi lakost szintén megfenyegettek a dühös szurkolók, aki ezután inkább el is távolította a balkonról a francia zászlót.
