Az Ukrán Biztonsági Szolgálat (SZBU) szerint már a Kremlhez erősen kötődő orosz ortodox egyház is bekapcsolódott a zsoldosok toborzásába Oroszországban – írja a KyivIndependent.
Az SZBU szerint a politikai vezetéssel szoros kapcsolatokat ápoló pátriárkátus pénzügyi és ipari csoportoktól kap támogatásokat a tevékenységre. Hivatalosan az adományokat az ortodox egyház templomépítésére adják, viszont ehelyett gyakorta zsoldosseregek létrehozására használják fel a keretet. Ennek egyik szembetűnő példája az északnyugat-oroszországi Kronstadtban található haditengerészeti katedrálisban működő Szent András Kereszt szervezet.
A Szent András Keresztet még 2017-ben hozták létre, nem véletlenül nevezik az első egyház alá tartozó zsoldosseregnek.
Megalapításakor a legfontosabb feladata az újoncok kiképzése volt más hasonló cégeknél.
A székesegyház apátja, Alekszej az orosz médiának adott nyilatkozatában tagadta, hogy a Szent András-kereszt zsoldos társaság lenne, mondván, hogy csak készségeket tanítanak a fiataloknak és felnőtteknek a jövőbeli katonai szolgálatra. Az SZBU szerint a toborzás most is zajlik, elsősorban kiképzésre keresnek tagokat.

Minszknél a Fehéroroszországban őrizetbe vett orosz zsoldoskatonák közül azoknak kiadatását kezdeményezi Kijev, akik a Donyec-medencei fegyveres konfliktusban a szakadárok oldalán harcoltak – közölte az Ukrán Biztonsági Szolgálat (SZBU) sajtóosztálya csütörtökön.
Közlemény szerint a kiadatás kérdéseivel közvetlenül az ukrán főügyészség fog foglalkozni.
Az Ukrajinszka Pravda hírportál emlékeztetett arra, hogy Fehéroroszországban szerdán közzétették: 33 olyan külföldit vettek őrizetbe, akik a Wagner csoport elnevezésű orosz magánhadsereg tagjai. A minszki hatóságok gyanúja szerint azért érkeztek Fehéroroszországba, hogy destabilizálják a helyzetet az augusztus 9-i fehérorosz elnökválasztás előtt. Az őrizetbe vettek Oroszországból érkeztek és a fehérorosz hatóságok egy Minszk környéki szanatóriumban vették őket őrizetbe. Korábbi sajtóhírek szerint a férfiak orosz turistákra nem jellemző viselkedésükkel és egyforma, terepszínű gyakorlóruhájukkal keltettek gyanút.
A 33 őrizetbe vett többségének a neve szerepel az ukrán Mirotvorec (Béketeremtő) elnevezésű szervezet adatbázisában, mint olyanok, akik részt vettek a Moszkva-barát kelet-ukrajnai szakadárok oldalán az ukrán erők ellen vívott donyec-medencei harcokban. Szerdán Minszkben Andrzej Rjaukou, a fehérorosz nemzetbiztonsági tanács titkára is elismerte, hogy 14 őrizetbe vett zsoldos valóban harcolt a Donyec-medencében – írta az ukrán hírportál, a BelTa fehérorosz hírügynökségre hivatkozva.
A Wagner csoport finanszírozójaként orosz és ukrán források a Vlagyimir Putyin orosz elnökhöz közel álló, a „Kreml szakácsaként” emlegetett oligarchát, Jevgenyij Prigozsint említik.
Az orosz magánhadsereg zsoldosai először a kelet-ukrajnai fegyveres konfliktusban tűntek fel a Moszkva-barát szakadár fegyveresek oldalán, majd megjelentek Szíriában és a Közép-afrikai Köztársaságban is.
Az SZBU 2017 októberében kezdett információkat nyilvánosságra hozni a Wagner ukrajnai tevékenységéről. A honlapjukon egyebek mellett hangfelvételeket tettek közzé a Wagnerhez tartozó fegyveresek és az orosz hadsereg tisztjei között lezajlott beszélgetésekről, amelyek az ukrán titkosszolgálat megfogalmazása szerint „nem hagynak kétséget afelől, hogy a Wagner zsoldosai az Oroszország által az egész világ ellen indított hibridháború eszközei”. A Wagner csoport zsoldosai videofelvételek tanúsága szerint nagy valószínűséggel részt vettek egyebek mellett a Donyeck megyei Debalceve városának a szakadár erők által végrehajtott elfoglalásában is 2015 elején.
Az SZBU sajtóközpontja által még 2018 őszén közölt adat szerint a Wagner csoport Ukrajnában és Szíriában összesen több mint 600 zsoldosát veszítette el.
Az SZBU információi alapján Putyin 2018. szeptember 3-án rendeletet adott ki, amelyben államtitoknak minősített minden információt a Wagner katonai magánvállalkozás tagjairól.
