Бюро погоди Гонконгу вранці в п’ятницю опублікувало попередження про „чорний” дощ. Зазначається, що понад 200 мм опадів було зафіксовано на головному острові Гонконгу, районі Коулун і північно-східній частині Нових територій міста ввечері в четвер.

Крім того, раптова повінь змила пішохідну стежку, якою вони йшли, а злива з гори знесла дві автівки цієї групи та повністю пошкодила три інші машини.
Група практично опинилася в пастці, люди намагалися сховатися від повені.
Охоронець парку пізніше розповів їм, що це була найгірша повінь, яку він бачив за останні 15 років, котрі він там провів.
Рятувальникам удалося врешті-решт гелікоптером передислокувати туристів, які там застрягли, у безпечне місце, тому мандрівникам не довелося ночувати на горі. Співробітники Національного парку та місцеві фахівці з ліквідації наслідків стихійних лих зрештою зробили стежку з гори проходимою.
За даними місцевого шерифа, дивом ніхто не постраждав, але слід бути обережними, оскільки подібні раптові повені часто траплялися в цьому районі під час сезону дощів.
Місцева влада радить усім мандрівникам стежити за місцевим прогнозом погоди.

«Усе сталося дуже швидко. Вода вже починала просочуватися в автомобіль, коли я випадково наїхав на відбійник, але я й не помітив цього, бо він уже був під водою. Я не міг рушити з місця. Тоді ми з батьками вирішили покинути машину», – розповідає свою історію один із водіїв.
Зійшовши, паводок залишив за собою сотні застряглих на дорогах автомобілів, наповнених брудом. Деякі стояли у воді ще й наступного дня, хоча рятувальники працювали вдень і вночі, відкачуючи воду. Окрема команда на човнах розшукувала двох зниклих безвісти людей.
