Туристичний гелікоптер розбився на гавайському острові Кауаї: загинули троє людей, і ще двоє дістали поранення. Повітряне судно впало вдень 27 березня на віддаленому пляжі Калалау на узбережжі На-Палі.

Внаслідок інциденту троє людей загинули, ще двоє дістали важкі поранення. Потерпілих оперативно було доправлено до медичного центру Wilcox Medical Center.
Трагедія сталася на пляжі Калалау – важкодоступне місце, куди можна дістатися лише пішки через гори або на човнах.
У пошуках та евакуації брали участь Берегова охорона США, поліція та пожежна служба Кауаї.
Гелікоптер Hughes/MD 500 перевозив пілота та чотирьох пасажирів під час “туру для шукачів гострих відчуттів”. Він належав туристичній компанії Airborne Aviation, яка організовує екскурсійні польоти над каньйонами, водоспадами та узбережжям Кауаї.
Розслідування аварії веде Національна рада з безпеки на транспорті США, яка вивчає всі обставини катастрофи. Слідчі планують зібрати дані про політ і оглянути уламки після їх підняття з води.
Мер Кауаї Дерек Кавакамі висловив співчуття сім’ям загиблих.

Один із найактивніших вулканів у світі, Кілауеа на Великому острові Гаваїв, у середу почав вивергати лаву з північного жерла, що є останньою подією в поточному виверженні, яке почалося майже шість місяців тому, повідомляє AP, пише УНН.
Фонтани лави досягали висоти понад 100 метрів, було помітно численні потоки лави. Учені з Гавайської вулканічної обсерваторії Геологічної служби США заявили, що фонтани, імовірно, підніматимуться вище.
Останній події передувало газовий поршневий рух, під час якого газ накопичувався у верхній частині стовпа лави в отворі у вівторок.
В обсерваторії заявили, що цей процес призводить до того, що поверхня лави піднімається або рухається. „Зрештою газ виходить, коли вивергаються бризки/лава, і лава стікає назад у жерло”, – написала обсерваторія на своїй сторінці у Facebook.
Це відбувалося до 10 разів на годину, але інтенсивність зростала, поки через день невеликий постійний купольний фонтан не почав живити потоки на дні кратера.
Це 25-й епізод виверження з моменту виверження вулкана в південно-східній частині острова 23 грудня. Відтоді це то припинялося, то відновлювалося.

У середу вулкан Кілауеа, який був активним із грудня, знову вивергався з деякими перервами. Вулкан на Гаваях є одним з найактивніших у світі і за останні місяці вивергався кілька разів.
Два тижні тому вулкан уже вивергав вражаючу лаву. У середу він знову почав вивергати магму. На щастя, розплавлена порода не загрожувала житловим районам, повідомляє Геологічна служба США.
Виверження тривали 28 годин і стихли в четвер у другій половині дня.
За даними Гавайської вулканічної обсерваторії Геологічної служби США (USGS), потоки лави були висотою 600 футів (188 метрів) протягом останніх семи годин.
Вулкан знову став активним 23 грудня. Відтоді він стихав і знову починав вивергати лаву більше десятка разів. Найкоротший період тривав 13 годин, а найдовший – вісім днів.
Кілька років тому Кілауеа спричинив масові руйнування на Гавайських островах.
Кілауеа і Мауна-Лоа є одними з найактивніших вулканів у світі. Кілауеа вивергався у червні та вересні 2024 року, – пише CBS News.
Геологічна служба США (USGS) передала агентству Associated Press відео, на якому зафіксовано процес виверження вулкану понад п’ять годин.

На північному узбережжі Мауї житель Гаваїв став жертвою нападу акули.
39-річного Джейсона Картера з води в Пайя-Бей витягли співробітники Ocean Safety, які доправили його в лікарню, але врятувати життя потерпілого не вдалося, ідеться в пресрелізі поліції.
Акула напала на чоловіка близько 11-ї години ранку. Після цього кілька кілометрів пляжу вздовж берега перекрили.
За даними правоохоронних органів, жертва була з Хайку, невеликої громади з півночі острова Мауї, інформує CBS News.

Супутникові знімки, оприлюднені Північною Кореєю 21 листопада, зафіксували зображення американського авіаносця, пришвартованого в південнокорейському порту, та американських військових об’єктів на Гаваях.
Північнокорейське інформаційне агентство KCNA в суботу повідомило, що лідер Північної Кореї Кім Чен Ин удруге за кілька днів відвідав центр управління супутниками Національного управління з аеронавтики, щоб переглянути фотографії американського атомного авіаносця Carl Vinson, який базується в Пусані (Південна Корея), та військових баз США на Гавайських островах.
За повідомленням KCNA, у суботу Кім Чен Ин відвідав північнокорейський космічний центр, де йому показали знімки нещодавніх «важливих цілей над ворожими територіями». Деякі з цих фото були зроблені над територією Південної Кореї, зокрема атомного авіаносця ВМС США USS Carl Vinson, який з 21 листопада пришвартований у військовому порту Пусана.
За даними агентства, супутник пролетів також над Гавайськими островами, де сфотографував військово-морську базу Перл-Харбор та військово-повітряну базу Хікам.
Північна Корея вивела супутник на орбіту 21 листопада. До цього Пхеньян безуспішно намагався запустити його в травні та серпні.

Жертвами масштабної пожежі на Гаваях стали понад сто людей, повідомив на пресконференції губернатор Гаваїв Джош Грін. Він додав, що серед руїн тривають пошуки, тому кількість загиблих може зрости.
Обставини виникнення пожежі та причини, чому не спрацювала сирена системи попередження, з’ясовуються.
На Мауї, частині Гавайських островів, полум’я спалахнуло минулого вівторка. Через сильний вітер та надзвичайну сухість чагарнику вогонь дуже швидко досягнув населених пунктів. Історичне місто Лахайна, колишня столиця Королівства Гаваї, було майже повністю зруйноване.
Губернатор раніше заявив, що згоріли або зазнали пошкоджень понад дві тисячі будівель. Вогонь завдав збитків на суму майже 6 мільярдів доларів.
Для гасіння пожеж і порятунку людей задіяли близько 300 членів Національної гвардії. Розчищати завали та забезпечувати тимчасове електропостачання допомагає Інженерний корпус армії США. Берегова охорона Сполучених Штатів намагається пом’якшити екологічну шкоду, завдану пожежею на морі, і бере участь у рятувальній операції на воді.
Президент США Джо Байден у вівторок заявив, що разом з першою леді за першої ж можливості відвідає Гаваї, щоб оцінити збитки. Водночас він додав, що не хоче, аби його присутність заважала проведенню відновлювальних робіт.
Як запевнив Байден губернатора Джоша Гріна, Гаваї «отримають від федерального уряду все, що їм потрібно».

За даними Федерального агентства з надзвичайних ситуацій (FEMA), вартість відновлення Лахайни оцінюється в 5,5 мільярда доларів, при цьому понад 2200 будівель пошкоджено або зруйновано і спалено понад 2100 акрів (850 гектарів).
Губернатор Гаваїв Джош Грін попередив на прес-конференції в суботу вдень, що кількість загиблих продовжуватиме зростати в міру виявлення нових жертв. За словами начальника поліції округу Мауї Джона Пелетьє, собаки, навчені виявляти тіла, покрили лише 3% району пошуку.
Офіційні особи пообіцяли вивчити системи оповіщення про надзвичайні ситуації в штаті після того, як деякі жителі поцікавилися, чи можна було зробити більше, щоб попередити їх до того, як вогонь охопить їхні будинки.
