Через поширення рідкісного, але смертельного вірусу, який передається комарами, у десятьох містах Сполучених Штатів на час піку активності цих комах, тобто на ніч, закривають усі парки та обмежують проведення громадських заходів на свіжому повітрі.
Десять населених пунктів у штаті Массачусетс було визнано місцями з високим ризиком зараження східним енцефалітом коней (EEE), який передається через укуси інфікованих комарів. За даними Центру з контролю та профілактики захворювань, на сьогодні не існує вакцини чи препарату для лікування цього захворювання, відомого також як «Потрійне Е», інформує BBC.
Після того як у штаті було виявлено кілька комарів – переносників EEE та вперше з 2020 року зафіксовано випадок зараження людини, місцева влада видала попередження для населення. Захворювання діагностували у 80-річного чоловіка, а також у коня в Плімуті.
За даними фахівців, від хвороби помирає 30–70% людей. Смерть настає через 2–10 днів після появи симптомів: діареї, лихоманки, головного болю, судом та блювоти.
«EEE – рідкісна небезпечна хвороба, яка викликає значне занепокоєння, – повідомив начальник управління з питань охорони здоров’я штату Массачусетс Роббі Голдштейн. – Хочемо нагадати жителям про необхідність захистити себе від укусів комарів, особливо в районах штату з підвищеним ризиком зараження».
З метою контролю за розповсюдженням захворювання влада проводить повітряне обприскування інсектицидом. Органи охорони здоров’я закликають людей до кінця вересня уникати у вечірні години заходів на відкритому повітрі.
Це не перший спалах захворювання в Массачусетсі. У 2019–2020 роках тут було зафіксовано 17 випадків EEE та сім смертей. Хвороба є дуже рідкісною, у Сполучених Штатах реєструють лише 11 випадків на рік.
Крім того, органи охорони здоров’я звертають увагу на те, що у 8 населених пунктах у штаті Массачусетс існує також ризик зараження гарячкою Західного Нілу – небезпечною вірусною хворобою, яка передається через укуси комарів. Відповідні випадки було зареєстровано в понад 30 штатах.
