Австралійська поліція заарештувала чоловіка, який вкрав чотири олімпійські медалі весляра Дрю Гінна. Чоловік викрав три золоті та одну срібну медалі, але їх досі не знайшли. 47-річного чоловіка заарештували в північному передмісті Мельбурна, Брунсвік.
За даними правоохоронців, медалі Гінна викрали із заднього сидіння Land Rover, припаркованого в столиці. З автомобіля викрали і камеру GoPro, навушники та гідрокостюм, які Гінн залишив у своїй машині з медалями, коли виступав із презентацією в школі.
Ґінн – один із найуспішніших олімпійських спортсменів Австралії. Вкрадені медалі він виграв протягом своєї майже дводесятилітньої олімпійської кар’єри, яка почалася на Іграх в Атланті 1996 року та тривала до Олімпіади 2012 року в Лондоні.
Як повідомляє ABC, спортсмен висловив сподівання, що медалі йому повернуть, і вони не потраплять на чорний ринок: «Можливо, є попит на речі такого роду, але є сподівання й на людяність. Я знаю, що в останні роки були повернуті інші медалі чемпіонів, тому я сподіваюся, що так буде і в цьому випадку».
