Két diák meghalt és többen megsebesültek egy egyetemi lövöldözésben Providence városában szombaton este.



A hatóságok közlése szerint a Brown Egyetem egyik épületében egy tanteremben fegyveres nyitott tüzet diákok csoportjára. A fekete ruhát viselő támadó elmenekült a helyszínről, hajszát indítottak utána, a kutatáshoz a lakosság segítségét kérték. A mielőbbi megtalálásának érdekében egy felvételt is közzétettek róla, melyet az épület előtti kamera rögzített. Több tanú is arról számolt be, hogy látott egy szürke álcázó maszkot viselő férfit, bár ez a felvételen nem látszik.







Brett Smiley, Providence polgármestere a helyi idő szerint késő este tartott sajtótájékoztatón elmondta, hogy a 2 halálos áldozat mellett 9 kilencen sebesültek meg, egy kivételével mindannyian egyetemi hallgatók. A sebesültek közül többek állapota válságos.

A hatóságok a támadást követő órákban arra kérték az egyetemen tartózkodókat, hogy maradjanak védett helyen, mert az elkövető továbbra is szabadlábon van.



Dan McKee, Rhode Island állam kormányzója közölte, hogy minden lehetséges forrást rendelkezésre bocsátanak a nyomozáshoz. A helyi rendőri erők mellett a nyomozásban részt vesznek szövetségi hatóságok, így a Szövetségi Nyomozó Iroda (FBI) is.



Donald Trumpot tájékoztatták a történtekről. Az elnök újságírók előtt szörnyűségesnek és szégyennek nevezte az erőszakos támadást, és későbbre ígért részletes reagálást.



„Teljes körű tájékoztatást kaptam a Brown Egyetem helyzetéről. Micsoda szörnyűség, és jelenleg csak annyit tehetünk, hogy imádkozunk az áldozatokért és a súlyosan megsérültekért” – mondta.
