„Legalább két Picassótól és Rembrandttól származó metszet is a megrongálódott” – közölte McDonald.
A szakemberek körülbelül 50–75 műalkotásról állapították meg, hogy javíthatatlan kárt szenvedtek a tűzben, a többi műalkotást megpróbálják restaurálni.

Az amerikai hadsereg csapatai a húszik ellenőrzése alatt álló rakétaindító állásokra mért csapást – írta az X-en az amerikai fegyveres erők központi parancsnoksága (CENTCOM).
A légicsapások célja a húszik nemzetközi és kereskedelmi hajózás ellen folytatott támadásainak megfékezése a Vörös-tengeren, a Báb al-Mandab szorosban és az Ádeni-öbölben – tették hozzá.

A szombati akció előtti csütörtökön az Egyesült Államok és Nagy-Britannia hadereje légicsapások sorát hajtotta végre a húszik ellen. António Guterres ENSZ-főtitkár akkor azt mondta, hogy „ne mérgesítsék el még jobban a helyzetet”. Emlékeztetőül: az első csapások 28 helyszínt és több mint 60 célpontot érintettek (öt ember vesztette életét, és hat megsebesült), Joe Biden amerikai elnök pedig már akkor figyelmeztetett, hogy ezzel nincs vége a rakétazápornak.

Sarkvidéki hideg tombol az Egyesült Államok nagy részén, a meteorológusok szerint lesznek olyan helyek, ahol mínusz 45 fokot mérnek majd. Az ország modernkori történetében nem volt még olyan hideg, mint ami hétfőn várható. Sok helyen hó és jeges utak nehezítik a közlekedést, százezrek vannak áram nélkül a zord időjárásban. Közben Iowa államban olyan extrém időjárási helyzet alakult ki, hogy a republikánus elnökjelöltek lemondták kampányrendezvényeiket.
Csak lépésben haladhatnak az autók Iowában, az Amerikai Egyesült Államok egyik középnyugati államában, ahol két hóvihar is végigsöpört. Donald Trump, az Egyesült Államok volt elnöke nagy előnnyel vezet a republikánus elnökjelölt-aspiránsok között, de pénteken a négy kampányrendezvénye közül hármat kénytelen volt lemondani az ítéletidő miatt. A héten megjelent felmérés szerint jelenleg 49 százalékon áll a támogatottsága.
Trump ezzel megelőzi Nikki Haley volt ENSZ-nagykövetet, akit a szavazók 12 százaléka támogat, és Ron DeSantis floridai kormányzót, akit a megkérdezettek 11 százaléka látna szívesen elnökjelöltként.
Ők is lemondták kampánygyűléseiket a hóvihar miatt.

Az Országos Meteorológiai Szolgálat (NWS) a keleti partvidéken kedden heves esőzésekről és szélviharokról számolt be, amelyek az előrejelzés szerint szerdán is folytatódnak. Az északkeleti térségben hét centiméternél is több csapadékot jósoltak, miközben egyes régiókban nagy hó esett a hétvégén, és mindezek következtében megnőtt az áradások veszélye is.
A keddi viharok országszerte 12 államban több mint 418 ezer háztartásban és üzleti vállalkozásban okoztak áramkimaradásokat.
A meteorológiai előrejelzés szerdára Közép-Nyugaton és a Nagy-tavak vidékén fagyos, havas időt ígért, a keleti parton szintén szélviharokra és akár 20 centiméter hóra számítanak. A nap folyamán azonban a viharos idő lassan tovább vándorol, és enyhülésre lehet számítani a térségben.
Az északnyugati térségben azonban csütörtökön is folytatódik a nagy havazással járó, viharos időjárás.
