Mint tudjuk, január 8-án reggel, a MAU ukrán légitársaság Boeing 737–800-as utasszállítója a PS 752-es Teherán–Kijev járat teljesítése közben lezuhant. A fedélzeten lévő 167 utas és a 9 tagú személyzet sajnálatos módon életüket vesztették. Az áldozatok között összesen 11 ukrán állampolgár volt: két utas és a személyzeti munkatársak. Ezen kívül 82 iráni, 63 kanadai, 10 svéd, 4 afgán, 3 német és 3 brit állampolgár utazott a gépen. Az információk szerint az utasok között számos diák volt, akik a szünidőjükről tértek vissza, illetve gyerekkel utazó családok is.
A tragédiát követően mind a politikusok, mind a szakértők, mind pedig a hétköznapi állampolgárok a katasztrófa verzióinak tárgyalásakor nem igazán nyilatkoztak annak valódi okairól. Több változatról is olvashattunk, azonban a fő ok mégis a repülőgép meghibásodása maradt. Ennek ellenére a tragédiát követő napon számos külföldi média és több kormányfő is azt nyilatkozta, hogy az utasszállító repülőgépet iráni katonák lőtték le.
A BBC Ukraine, továbbá megannyi amerikai portál arról számol be, hogy Irán véletlenül lelőtte az ukrán repülőgépet. Kris Van Cleave, a CBS News újságírója azt nyilatkozta, hogy az amerikai tisztviselőknek meggyőződése, hogy iráni katonák hibájából zuhant le a gép, ezt az állítást a CNN is megerősítette. Az amerikai hírszerző szolgálat jeleket kapott a radarról, és lövéseket észlelt két rakétaindítóról – valószínűleg az SA-15-ről (az orosz gyártású „Thor” légijármű-rakétarendszer)–, amelyet követően robbanást rögzítettek.

Newsweek jelentése szerint a Pentagon három forrása, továbbá az
amerikai hírszerzés és az iraki vezetés is megerősítette, hogy
a gép az iráni légvédelmi erők hibájából zuhant le. A United
States Central Command nem volt hajlandó nyilatkozni az ügy
kapcsán, amikor a Newsweek újságírói felvették velük a
kapcsolatot, ezen kívül az USA Nemzetbiztonsági Tanácsa és a
külügyminisztérium sem válaszolt.
Donald
Trump amerikai elnök szerdai sajtókonferenciáján azt mondta,
„valaki hibát követhetett el” hozzátéve, hogy gyanakszik a
gép lelövésének körülményeit illetően.
„Számos forrással rendelkezünk, ideértve a szövetségeseinket és a saját hírszerzőinket is. A bizonyítékok azt mutatják, hogy a gépet egy iráni föld-levegő rakéta sújtotta” – nyilatkozta Justin Trudeau miniszterelnök, de hozzátette, hogy valószínűleg nem szándékosan vették célba. Elmondta, hogy alapos kivizsgálást indítottak a repülőgép lezuhanása ügyében. „Válaszokat akarunk. Ez a kormány nem nyugszik meg mindaddig, amíg nem kap válaszokat” – szögezte le.
Ami
az ukrán kormányt illeti, Volodimir Zelenszkij elnöki irodájának
sajtószolgálata a tragédiával kapcsolatos gyűlés után azt
nyilatkozta, hogy a nyomozás még igen korai stádiumban van ahhoz,
hogy konkrét részleteket közöljenek.
„Nem
tudunk hozzászólni ehhez. Vannak saját verzióink. Hét darab.
Közülük egy megegyezik az amerikai hírközlésben megjelentekkel,
azonban az állítást nem tudjuk megerősíteni” – jelentette ki
Olekszij Danilov, a nemzetbiztonsági és védelmi tanács titkára
az USA-beli médiában közölt hírek kapcsán.
Később az Elnöki Hivatal bejelentette, hogy Ukrajna nemzetközi partnereket keres annak érdekében, hogy azok segítsenek bizonyítékokat találni a tragédia valódi okának kiderítésére. Az ukrán szakértői csoport már elindult Iránba, ahol a helyszínen próbál bizonyítékokat találni az utasszállító esetleges lelövésére.

Nem volt alapja annak, hogy megtiltsák a polgári légi járatok repülését Irán légterében, annak ellenére sem, hogy feszült a helyzet a térségben – jelentette ki Olekszij Honcsaruk ukrán miniszterelnök szerdai sajtótájékoztatóján, amelyet annak kapcsán tartott, hogy reggel Iránban lezuhant egy ukrán utasszállító, fedélzetén 176 személlyel.
Az eddigi információk szerint a légi szerencsétlenségnek nincs túlélője. Vadim Prisztajko ukrán külügyminiszterre hivatkozva az ukrán sajtó azt közölte, hogy a tragédiában 167 utas és a gép 9 fős ukrán személyzete vesztette életét. Még két utas volt ukrán állampolgárságú, a többiek további hat ország állampolgárai: irániak (82), kanadaiak (63), svédek (10), britek (3), afgánok (4) és németek (3). Két regisztrált utas végül nem szállt fel a járatra, róluk semmilyen információt nem hoztak nyilvánosságra. Időközben a MAU ukrán légitársaság is közzétette angol nyelven a járat utasainak és személyzetének névsorát.
Az ukrán kormányfő közölte, hogy ukrán szakértőket küldenek Iránba a repülőgép katasztrófájának felderítéséhez. Öt szakértőt küld a polgári repülési baleseteket vizsgáló nemzeti iroda, kettőt az ukrán légi közlekedési hivatal és hármat a szerencsétlenséget szenvedett járat tulajdonosa, a MAU ukrán légitársaság. Az áldozatok között 26 volt kiskorú, körülük 13-an tízévesnél fiatalabbak.
Az Ukrajinszka Pravda hírportál beszámolójában arról írt, hogy a tragédia előtt és után is zavartalanul szálltak fel-, illetve le a teheráni repülőtérről nemzetközi járatok, beleértve európai légitársaságok gépeit.
Közben Vlagyimir Putyin orosz elnök táviratban fejezte ki részvétét Volodimir Zelenszkij ukrán elnöknek és Haszan Róháni iráni államfőnek az utasszállító gép lezuhanása miatt.

Bagdadban Iránhoz köthető célpontok ellen – jelentette csütörtök este az
amerikai média meg nem nevezett amerikai kormányzati forrásokra hivatkozva.
A Fox televízió – utalva az iraki állami televízió
jelentésére – közölte: a légicsapásokban, amelyek egyike a bagdadi nemzetközi
repülőteret célozta meg, életét vesztette Kászim Szulejmáni iráni tábornok, az
iráni Forradalmi Gárda al-Kudsz nevű különleges egységének parancsnoka és Abu
Mahdi al-Muhandisz, a Népi Mozgósítási Erők nevű, iráni támogatást élvező
milicistákat tömörítő ernyőszervezet vezetője. Ennek az ernyőszerzetnek a tagja
az a Katáib Hezbollah milícia, amely a múlt pénteken rakétatámadást intézett az
iraki Kirkuk melletti katonai támaszpont ellen, s amely támadásra hivatkozva
Washington vasárnap légicsapásokat mért Iránhoz köthető iraki és szíriai
célpontokra.
Iráni tisztségviselők nem erősítették meg sem Szulejmáni,
sem al-Muhandisz halálhírét. A Fox televízió információi szerint azonban Ahmed
al-Aszádi, a Népi Mozgósítási Erők egyik szóvivője Bagdadban újságíróknak azt
mondta: „az amerikai és az izraeli ellenség a felelős Abu Mahdi al-Muhandisz és
Kászim Szulejmáni mudzsahedek meggyilkolásáért”.
Csütörtök éjjel az NBC televízió késői híradója arról
számolt be, hogy a légicsapásokat Donald Trump amerikai elnök rendelte el. Ezt
a Pentagon (az amerikai védelmi minisztérium) is megerősítette. A tárca tájékoztatása
szerint Trump arra adott utasítást, hogy az Egyesült Államok hadereje „határozott
lépést tegyen a külföldön élő amerikaiak biztonságának védelmében”.
A Pentagon közleményben szögezte le, hogy a továbbiakban is „minden
szükséges lépést” megtesz az amerikai emberek és érdekek védelmében „bárhol
legyenek is a világban”. A minisztérium hangsúlyozta azt is, hogy „e
csapásmérés célja az volt, hogy elrettentse Iránt a támadásoktól”. A Pentagon
információi szerint ugyanis Kászim Szulejmáni aktívan dolgozott azon, hogy
újabb támadásokat intézzenek amerikai diplomaták és katonák ellen a térségben.
Az elemzők emlékeztetnek arra, hogy Mark Esper amerikai
védelmi miniszter csütörtökön a Fox televíziónak adott interjújában megelőző
csapásméréseket helyezett kilátásba arra az esetre, ha az irániak támogatását
élvező milíciák újabb támadásokat terveznének amerikai érdekek és személyek
ellen Irakban.
A csapásmérést az amerikai politikusok párthovatartozásuk
szerint értékelték. A republikánus politikusok kivétel nélkül dicsérték az
amerikai elnök döntését, míg néhány demokrata párti politikus megkérdőjelezte a
csapásmérés „hasznosságát”, mondván, hogy szükségtelenül elmérgesíti a
helyzetet a térségben és az amerikai-iráni viszonyt.
