Az amerikai Szövetségi Nyomozó Iroda (FBI) belföldi terrorcselekménynek minősítette a Capitolium elleni, január 6-ai támadást – nyilatkozta kedden Christopher Wray, az FBI igazgatója, az amerikai törvényhozás felsőházának igazságügyi bizottsága előtt.
Christopher Wray szenátusi meghallgatásán úgy fogalmazott: Ez a támadás, ez az ostrom bűnözői magatartás volt. Ez ennyire egyszerű, és ezért az FBI ezt belföldi terrorizmusnak tekinti.
Az igazgató elmondta, hogy a Szövetségi Nyomozó Iroda több mint 270 000 állampolgári bejelentést kapott az amerikaiaktól, amelyek segítettek azonosítani a támadásban feltehetőleg részt vevő embereket. „Néhányan megtették azt a fájdalmas lépést is, hogy barátaikat vagy családtagjaikat jelentették fel” – tette hozzá Wray.
Január 6-án Donald Trump volt elnök hívei megrohamozták a törvényhozás épületét, ahol a szenátus éppen a Trump által elveszített, novemberi elnökválasztás eredményét készült hitelesíteni. A támadásban öten meghaltak, köztük egy rendőr is. A volt elnök ellen a demokrata többségű alsóház lázadás szítása miatt emelt vádat, a Capitolium megtámadása előtt tartott nagygyűlésen mondott, gyújtó hangú beszéde miatt. Donald Trumpot végül – az alkotmányos felelősségre vonási eljárás (impeachment) végén – a szenátus felmentette.
Az FBI igazgatója visszautasította azokat az állításokat, melyek szerint a Capitolium elleni támadást egyetlen szélsőséges ideológia hívei követték el.
„A január 6-ai támadók között volt néhány – és a számuk a nyomozás előre haladtával folyamatosan növekszik –, akiket erőszakos milicista szélsőségeseknek neveznék. És letartóztattunk néhány olyan embert is, akiket a rasszista motivációval rendelkező erőszakos szélsőségesek kategóriájába sorolnék” – fogalmazott Christopher Wray, aki hozzátette: nincs bizonyíték arra, hogy a radikális baloldali Antifa tagjai részt vettek az ostromban.
Az FBI mostanáig legalább 280 embert tartóztatott le, akik feltehetőleg részt vettek a január 6-ai támadásban és több mint 300-at már vád alá helyeztek. Wray azt is elmondta, hogy az általuk vizsgált belföldi terrorizmussal kapcsolatos esetek száma megduplázódott, mióta ő vezeti a Szövetségi Nyomozó Irodát. 2017-ben mintegy 1000 esetet jegyeztek fel, míg 2020-ban 2000-et.

Keresetet nyújtott be kedden egy demokrata párti képviselő Donald Trump volt amerikai elnök és személyes ügyvédje, Rudy Giuliani ellen egy szövetségi bíróságon lázítás és összeesküvés miatt a Capitolium ostromával összefüggésben.
A polgári jogi keresetet, a képviselőházi nemzetbiztonsági bizottságban elnöklő Bennie Thompson terjesztette elő a washingtoni szövetségi kerületi bíróságon.
A kereset szerint a volt elnök és ügyvédje megsértette a Ku Klux Klan fehér felsőbbrendűségi szervezettel szemben 1871-ben hozott törvény rendelkezéseit.
„A lázadás Trump, Giuliani és az Oath Keepers, illetve a Proud Boys féle szélsőséges csoportok által gondosan kidolgozott terv eredménye volt, ők mindannyian azt a közös célt tartották szem előtt, hogy megfélemlítést, zaklatást és fenyegetést alkalmazva megállítsák az elektori szavazatok hitelesítését” – áll a perkereset beterjesztését követően nyilvánosságra hozott közleményben.
Trumpot szombaton felmentette az Egyesült Államok szenátusa az ellene – lázadás szítása vádjával – indított alkotmányos felelősségre vonási eljárás (impeachment) végén. A szenátus az eljárás utolsó tárgyalási napján 57:43 arányban találta Trumpot a felhozott vádak alapján bűnösnek, így nem lett meg az elítéléséhez szükséges kétharmados többség. A demokrata párti szenátorokkal szavazott hét republikánus szenátor is.
A felsőházban kisebbségben lévő republikánusok vezetője, Mitch McConnell a voksolást követően világossá tette, hogy Trumpot felelősség terheli a január 6-án történtekért. „Nem kérdéses, hogy Trump elnök gyakorlatilag és erkölcsileg is felelős az aznapi események kiprovokálásáért” – jelentette ki McConnell. Jason Miller, Trump egyik tanácsadója elutasította a keresetben foglalt vádakat a szenátusi impeachment-eljárásban született eredményt idézve.
Trump ellen lázadás szítása miatt emelt vádat januárban a képviselőház, mert január 6-án tartott, gyújtó hangvételű beszédét követően támogatói megrohamozták a Capitolium épületét. Giuliani ugyanazon a tömegrendezvényen, amelyen Trump is beszélt kijelentette: „legyen párbaj általi ítélet”. A Capitolium elleni támadásban öten életüket vesztették, köztük egy rendőr is. A rendbontással kapcsolatban több mint 200 személy ellen indult eljárás.

Négy ember vesztette életét a rendőrség közlése szerint a Capitoliumnál, amikor Donald Trump hívei megostromolták az amerikai törvényhozás épületét szerdán.
A rendőrség szóvivője azt közölte, hogy egy nőt, akit az erőszakos behatolás közben lőttek mellbe, a kórházban halt meg. Az ügyben vizsgálat indult.
Három másik ember is meghalt, egy nő és két férfi, haláluk okát egyelőre nem közölték.
A demonstrálók és a rendőrök közötti összecsapásban 14 rendőr sérült meg, ketten súlyosan. Egyiküket a tüntetők a tömegbe húzták és megverték, a másik rendőrt egy lövedék találta el.
A rendőrség két csőbombát talált a helyszínen, egy kocsiban pedig Molotov-koktélok voltak. 52 embert tartóztattak le, négyet tiltott fegyverbirtoklásért, 47-et pedig a helyi idő szerint 18 órától bevezetett kijárási tilalom megszegése miatt.
Az FBI közölte, hatástalanítottak két, feltételezhetően robbanószert.
Washington mellett több amerikai nagyvárosban is tüntettek, például Denverben vagy Atlantában, de ott nem voltak összecsapások.

Szerda este több száz tüntető betört az Amerikai Egyesült Államok Capitoliumába. A képviselőház és a szenátus ülését, amelyen hivatalosan bejegyzik az elektorok Joe Bidenre leadott szavazatát, felfüggesztették. A képviselőket a rendőrség kíséri ki az épületből. Több televízió szerint a hatóságok könnygázt is bevetettek a tüntetők ellen.
A biztonságiak tehát nem bírtak a tiltakozókkal, akik bejutottak az épületbe is.
