A város elegáns üzleti negyedében randalírozók ablakokat törtek be, üzleteket fosztottak ki és nekitámadtak a kivonuló rendőröknek. A helyi rendőrség vezetője, David Brown hangsúlyozta: „nem szervezett tüntetésről volt szó, ezek kifejezetten köztörvényes bűncselekmények voltak.” A rendőrségi vezető elmondta: a bűnözőkkel folytatott tűzharcban 13 rendőr sebesült meg, és biztonsági őrök, valamint járókelők is belekeveredtek a lövöldözésbe, közülük senki nem sebesült meg.
A rendőrség mintegy 400 rendőrt vezényelt ki a belvárosba, ahol – a közösségi médiában megjelent, ellentmondásos információkat követően – autókaraván igyekezett, és a gépkocsikból is lövéseket adtak le a rendőrökre.
Az Egyesült Államok több nagyvárosában az elmúlt hónapokban elharapódzott a bűnözés. A The Wall Street Journal című napilap a napokban terjedelmes elemzést közölt e városok közbiztonsági helyzetéről, és megállapította, hogy az idén meredeken emelkedett a gyilkosságok száma: az 50 legnagyobb városban 24 százalékkal nőtt a gyilkosságok aránya, és jelentősen nőtt a fegyveres bűncselekmények száma is.

Chicagóban, helyi idő szerint kedden 15 embert lőttek le, akik egy korábban meggyilkolt, 31 éves férfi temetésén vettek részt. A rendőrség ezt követően letartóztatott egy férfit, de róla semmit sem közöltek. Az amerikai nagyváros demokrata polgármestere, az afroamerikai Lori Lightfoot közben ismét elutasította Donald Trump elnök segítségnyújtását, majd a közösségi oldalán kezdte el őt támadni, mindenféle igaztalan vádakkal. A polgármester úgy tűnik, semmi sem hajlandó tenni az ellen, hogy Chicagóban a radikális baloldali tüntetésekkel összefüggésben ismét eluralkodott a bűnözés és az erőszak, illetve csak ebben az évben több mint 2000 embert lőhettek le a városban.
A Fox News és a Breitbart információi alapján, kedd este 18:30 körül Chicago Auburn Gresham nevű, 97 százalékban afroamerikaiak lakta, és rendkívül veszélyes negyedében egy temetkezésen részt vevő gyászolókra lőttek rá egy fekete színű autóból.
Összesen 15 embert sebesítettek meg. Több sérült állapota ugyanakkor kritikus, az életkoruk 21 és 68 év között van, közülük 10 nő.
Egy Donnie Weathersby nevű, alig 31 éves afroamerikai férfinak volt éppen a temetése, akit még múlt kedden (július 14-én) ért halálos lövés, egy tömegkonfliktus során.
Chicago Tribune szerint a temetésen történt lövöldözéssel összefüggésben a rendőrség már őrizetbe vett egy személyt, de semmilyen információt nem adtak ki róla.
Azt sem lehet tudni, hogy voltak-e társai, vagy sem.
Chicago demokrata polgármestere a segítségnyújtás elfogadása helyett Trumpot támadja
Lori Lightfoot, Chicago demokratapárti, afroamerikai polgármester asszonya – aki politikai karrierjét LMBTQ-aktivistaként kezdte – kedden erről írt a Twitter-oldalán: „semmilyen körülmények között nem engedhetem meg, hogy Donald Trump csapata a városba jöjjenek és terrorizálják a helyieket”.
Későbbi bejegyzéseiben a szerinte túl sok magánkézben lévő fegyvert hibáztatta a történtekért, de ígéretet tett a tettesek felelősségre vonására is.
A Chicago Tribune-nek adott interjújában pedig kifejtette, hogy véleménye alapján, diktatúrába torkollhat az, ha a szövetségi erők megjelennek a város utcáin.
Chicagóban és más demokrata irányítás alatt lévő városban kialakult állapotokat a hétvégén Donald Trump elnök úgy jellemezte, hogy rosszabb a helyzet, mint Afganisztánban.
Ezért elhatározta, hogy a szövetségi belbiztonsági minisztérium 150 emberét küldi Chicagóba a helyi rendfenntartók megsegítésére.
Lori Lightfoot első alkalommal még hétfőn jelentette ki: „semmi szükség a városban arra, hogy szövetségi erők az utcáról elvigyenek és fogva tartsanak embereket”, szerinte törvényellenesen.
Lightfoot a múlt héten pedig az afroamerikaiak által a fehérekre használt rasszista megjegyzéssel illette Kayleigh McEnanyt, a Fehér Ház szóvivőjét, amikor a chicagói fegyveres erőszakról nyilatkozott.
Csak hétfőn Chicagóban 25 embert lőttek le, közülük 3 meghalt, a hétvége folyamán összesen 50 emberre lőhettek rá, ebből 6 személy meghalt. Akkor több száz radikális baloldali aktivista megpróbálta ledönteni Kolumbusz Kristófnak, Amerika felfedezőjének a szobrát, egyébként sikertelenül. Erről itt írtunk.
A június 27–28-i hétvégéjén a városban összesen 104 embert lőttek meg, ebből 12 kiskorú volt. Közülük 13 személy halt meg. A kiskorú áldozatok között a kettő legfiatalabb egy egyéves csecsemő volt, a második legfiatalabb pedig egy 10 éves kislány.
A július 4–5-i hétvégén Chicagóban 17 halálos áldozata és több mint 70 sebesültje volt a lövöldözéseknek. A halálos áldozatok között volt egy 7 éves kislány, Natalie Wallace-t.
Az AP amerikai hírügynökség adatai alapján, a városban 2020. január 1. és július 5. között eddig 1782 embert lőttek agyon, 550 emberrel többet, mint a tavalyi, hasonló időszakban.
A Fox legfrissebb számai szerint az idei évben a Chicagóban lelőttek száma meghaladja a 2 ezret.
A lövöldézések számának a drasztikus emelkedése nyilvánvalóan összefüggésben áll az egyre erőszakosabbá váló radikális baloldali tüntetésekkel.
