A sajtóban nyilvánosságra került üzenetek a rendőrség szerint „iszlamista hátterű megfélemlítésre” utalnak.
A levél írói kifejezetten utaltak is az iszlám törvénykezésre, vagyis a saríára, amely – szerintük – előírja minden hitetlen megbüntetését.
A görög nyelvű üzenetek szövegében sok hiba volt, gyaníthatóan fordítóprogrammal készülhettek.
Az országban csaknem az összes általános és középiskola és néhány óvoda is megkapta a fenyegetést. Eddig egyik intézményben sem találtak robbanószerkezetet. A hatóságok még próbálják felderíteni, honnan küldték szét az e-maileket.
Egyelőre nem világos, miért kerülhetett hirtelen Ciprus az iszlamisták célkeresztjébe. A sziget ugyan sok izraeli állampolgár otthona is, de számos közel-keleti menekült is él ott. Nicosia jó kapcsolatokat ápol Izraellel és az arab világgal egyaránt.

Vasárnap a ciprusi parti őrség mintegy 120 migránst mentett ki Ciprus partjai közelében.
A menedékkérők két bárkán érkeztek Libanonból – ismertette a helyi rendőrség szóvivője a RIK ciprusi közrádió műsorában. Mint mondta, az embereket halászhajók és járőrhajók fedélzetén vitték biztonságba.
A hatóságok szerint az érkező migránsok száma gyorsan tovább növekedhet, ugyanis a parti őrség radarjai további két – egyelőre azonosítatlan – hajót észleltek a távolban Libanon irányából Ciprus felé haladva.
A bevándorlókat a fővárostól, Nicosiától nyugatra található egyik menekülttáborba szállították. Többségük szíriai állampolgár.
Az uniós statisztikák szerint az EU-tagországok közül az utóbbi években lakosságarányosan Cipruson nyújtották be a legtöbb menedékkérelmet. A regisztrációs és befogadótáborok túlzsúfoltak a szigetország területén, most részben uniós forrásokból igyekeznek kibővíteni őket.

Körülbelül 200 tonna élelmiszerrel megrakott segélyszállító hajó indult kedden Ciprusról Gázába – közölte a kezdeményezés mögött álló nemzetközi jótékonysági szervezet.
A szállítmány egy tengeri folyosó megnyitásának próbája annak a területnek a segélyezésére, ahol az éhezés öt hónapja az izraeli-Hamász háború óta terjed.
A World Food Kitchen, a híres séf, José Andrés által alapított jótékonysági szervezet az X közösségimédia-platformon közzétette, hogy kedden egy hajó elindult. Az Associated Press élő felvétele azt mutatta, hogy kivontatják Larnaca kikötővárosának egyik kikötőjéből.
Az Egyesült Államok külön bejelentette, hogy tengeri hidat épít Gáza közelében a segélyek szállítása érdekében, de valószínűleg több hétbe is telhet, mire az üzembe lép.
Az 5 hónapos háború, amelyet a Hamász október 7-i Izrael elleni támadása váltott ki, több mint 30 000 palesztint ölt meg, és Gáza 2,3 millió lakosának mintegy 80%-át kiűzte otthonából. Az ENSZ szerint a lakosság egynegyede éhezik. A háborút kirobbantó támadásban mintegy 1200 ember halt meg, a fegyveresek pedig körülbelül 250-et ejtettek túszul.
Segélyszervezetek azt mondják, hogy szinte lehetetlen segélyt szállítani a terület nagy részére az izraeli korlátozások, a folyamatos ellenségeskedések és a közrend felborulása miatt, miután a Hamasz által irányított rendőrség nagyrészt eltűnt az utcáról.
Nem világos, hogy a tengeri szállítások mennyire lesznek hatékonyak a humanitárius katasztrófa kezelésében, mivel továbbra is nehézségekbe ütközik majd a segélyszállítás, ha már Gázán belülre kerül.

Tíz embert vett őrizetbe a ciprusi rendőrség azzal a gyanúval, hogy embercsempészettel foglalkozó bűnszövetkezetet irányítottak. A hatóságok közlése szerint a szigetre újabb bevándorlóhullám érkezett a hét végén.
A rendőrség szerint az embercsempészettel gyanúsítottakat az ország nyugati részében fekvő Páfosz közigazgatási terület különböző településein állították elő bűncselekmény elkövetésére való szövetkezés, bűnszövetkezethez tartozás, illetve embercsempészés és pénzmosás gyanújával.
Az egyik gyanúsítottnál nagy mennyiségű kézpénzt találtak.
Az elmúlt hétvégén 264 szíriai érkezett a líbiai partok irányából – jelentette be a belügyminisztérium egyik szóvivője.
A három földrész közötti tengeri keresztúton fekvő Cipruson hivatalos adatok szerint 2017 óta folyamatosan növekszik az illegális bevándorlás. Ciprusi vezetők az elmúlt napokban ismételten hangoztatták, hogy a romló közel-keleti helyzet miatt jelentősen megnőhet a térségbe érkező menekültek száma.
Tavaly rekordot döntött a menedékkérők száma (21 565) az ENSZ Menekültügyi Főbiztosságának adatai szerint. Idén augusztus végéig Ciprus 7369 menedékkérelmet fogadott be az újonnan érkezőktől.

A ciprusi rendőrség az ügyben négy, szíriai állampolgárságú embert őrizetbe vett – közölték ciprusi hatósági források. A tájékoztatás szerint a négy, 17 és 21 év közötti gyanúsítottnál – akiket a nyomozás idejére őrizetben tartanak – kést is találtak.
Tűzszerészek azt közölték, a helyszínen lévő „kis fémtárgyban nagyon kis mennyiségű pirotechnikai anyagra” bukkantak.
A gyanúsítottak közül ketten a robbanás helyszínétől nem messze sétáltak, másik két társuk pedig a közeli utcában parkoló gépkocsiban ült. Az autóban két kés mellett egy kalapácsot is találtak. A közösségi médiára felkerült képeken látható, hogy az épületet kordonnal vették körül. A hatóságok nem közölték, az ügy összefüggésben lehet-e az izraeli–palesztin konfliktussal, melynek nyomán az Európai Unió országaiban fokozott biztonsági intézkedéseket rendeltek el.

Súlyos rendbontásba torkollt péntek este a ciprusi Limassol kikötővárosban egy bevándorlók elleni demonstráció: a tüntetők üzleteket dúltak fel, Molotov-koktélokat és köveket dobáltak, kukákat gyújtottak fel.
A Cyprus Times című lap szombati tudósítása szerint mintegy 350 álarcos jobboldali tüntető kezdett randalírozni. A rendbontások során kifejezetten bevándorlók által fenntartott boltokat támadtak meg. A rendőrség könnygázt vetett be, és 13 embert őrizetbe vett. A dulakodásban öten megsérültek.
Hasonló rendbontások voltak már a múlt hét végén is Hloraka településen, ahol különösen nagy a feszültség a helyiek és az ott élő migránsok között.
A ciprusi hatóságok korábban több alkalommal is felhívták a figyelmet arra, hogy az illegális bevándorlók már a népesség hat százalékát teszik ki a földközi-tengeri szigeten, ami arányaiban több mint ötszöröse az uniós átlagnak. A menekülttáborok megteltek, sok helyen gettók kezdtek kialakulni, ahol nehéz körülmények között élnek az emberek.
Nikosz Hrisztodulidesz ciprusi államfő szombaton újságíróknak azt mondta, a péntek esti „szégyenteljes” limassoli rendbontás „olyan kisstílű bűnözők műve volt, akiknek nincs igazán közük a migrációs helyzethez”. Az elnök szerint nem szabad összemosni a bevándorlással kapcsolatos problémákat a randalírozók ügyével.
Hrisztodulidesz kiemelte, hogy az utóbbi hat hónapban sikerült jelentősen csökkenteni a szigetre érkező illegális bevándorlók számát, felgyorsítani a menedékkérelmek feldolgozását, illetve növelni a hazatelepítések számát is.

A ciprusi rendőrség közölte, hogy háromhónapos nyomozati munka eredményeként öt szíriai állampolgárságú gyanúsítottat fogtak el egy rajtaütésben, amelynek során több lakást kutattak át az ország délkeleti részében. Egy ciprusi bíróság elrendelte a gyanúsítottak őrizetbe vételét nyolc napra, amíg a rendőrségi vizsgálat lezárul. A gyanúsítottakat azzal vádolják, hogy embercsempész bűnszervezethez tartoztak.
Egy rendőrségi szóvivő az AP-nek elmondta, hogy további hét szíriai állampolgárt keresnek, köztük a bűnszervezet vezetőjét, aki feltehetően külföldre menekült. Elmondta, hogy a rendőri razzia során 44 szíriai migránst találtak az átkutatott lakásokban, akik menedékkérők, illetve olyan személyek, akik már nemzetközi védelmi státuszt kaptak. A migránsokat kihallgatják és elengedik, ha nem derül ki róluk, hogy az embercsempészbandához tartoznak.
A ciprusi belügyminisztérium közölte, hogy az elmúlt hónapokban megnövekedett a tengeri úton érkező szíriai migránsok száma, miközben a menedékkérelmek jelentősen visszaestek a migránsok beáramlásának visszaszorítását célzó kormányzati intézkedések következtében.

Szemtanúk szerint a békefenntartókra a ciprusi török biztonsági erők rendőrei és katonái támadtak rá, majd bulldózerekkel elmozdították az ENSZ teherautóit, a betonoszlopokat és a szögesdrótkerítést is a szigetet kettészelő, az ENSZ ellenőrzése alatt álló területről.
Az eset egy olyan szektorban történt, amely egy szlovák katonai egység irányítása alatt áll, brit békefenntartói megerősítéssel. Az ENSZ szóvivőjének elmondása alapján három békefenntartó súlyosan megsebesült, és kórházi ápolásra szorul. Lőfegyverhasználat nem történt.
Az Egyesült Államok, Nagy-Britannia és Franciaország, az ENSZ Biztonsági Tanácsának öt álladó tagja közül három ország elítélte a pénteki incidenst. „Ezek a tettek elfogadhatatlanok, és aláássák az ENSZ békefenntartó misszióját” – áll a három ENSZ-nagykövet közös közleményében.

Az ENSZ már korábban aggodalmát fejezte ki ciprusi török hatóságok terve miatt, mert az felborítaná a status quót.
A ciprusi török hatóságokkal megbeszéléseket tartottak a tervekről, ám a munkát már az ENSZ-el való megegyezés előtt megkezdték.
„Az ENSZ békefenntartók felszólítják a ciprusi török felet, hogy tartsa tiszteletben az ENSZ fennhatóságát az ütközőzónában, és tartózkodjon minden olyan cselekedettől, amely tovább fokozhatja a feszültséget, továbbá távolítson el minden személyt és gépezetet az ütközőzónából” – közölték.

Hétfőn újból tűzveszélyre figyelmeztettek a görög hatóságok, és felszólították a lakosságot, hogy legyenek óvatosak a nyílt láng használata és a szikrák lángra lobbanása miatt. Görögország hétfőn két tűzoltó repülőgépet is küldött Ciprusra, ahol félő, hogy a lángok újból terjedni kezdenek a szeles idő miatt.
A görög tűzoltóság a közösségi médiában hívta fel a lakosság figyelmét, hogy a fővárost körülvevő Attika régióban, a Peloponnészoszi-félsziget déli részén és Kréta nyugati részén is rendkívül magas a tűzveszély. Ennek oka jelenleg nem a magas hőmérséklet, amely a nyári hónapok időjárásához viszonyítva még a normális keretek között van, hanem az erős szél, amely a szakértők szerint ezen a héten az ország több pontján is várható.
A figyelmeztetés különösen az Égei-tenger térségét érinti a nyári hónapokban, amikor a százaz nyári szél eléri Krétát és a többi szigetet. Mivel Görögország legnagyobb részén már hetek óta nem esett eső, egy szikra is elég ahhoz, hogy a szél óriási tüzet csiholjon – figyelmeztetnek a szakemberek.
A tűzesetek mindennaposnak számítanak Görögországban, de többségük kezelhető és ellenőrizhető. Számos esetben gyújtogatás vagy gondatlanság miatt alakulnak ki, például egy eldobott cigaretta vagy figyelmetlen kerti grillezés miatt.
Görögország hétfőn két tűzoltó repülőgépet küldött Ciprusra, ahol több négyzetkilométernyi hegyvidéket perzseltek fel a lángok péntek óta.
