„A jelenlegi gázai összecsapások részeként egy rakéta csapódott be Tábában, hat embert könnyebben megsebesítve” – jelentette az egyiptomi hírszerzéshez közel álló al-Kahera News hírtelevízió.
Szemtanúk az AFP francia hírügynökségnek elmondták, hogy a rakéta egy kórház melléképületét találta el a Sínai-félsziget északkeleti csücskén fekvő, Vörös-tenger parti városban, ahol van egy határátkelő Izraellel.
A helyi médiában sugárzott képeken egy megrongálódott épület és több kiégett jármű látható a közelben. A helyi hatóságok közölték, hogy vizsgálatot indítottak.
A Sínai-félsziget északnyugati csücskét a palesztin Gázai övezet határolja, északi határa közös Izraellel.
Az izraeli hadsereg megerősítette, hogy tudomása van a „biztonsági incidensről”, de az az ország határain kívül történt. Egyiptom közvetíteni próbál a palesztinok és az izraeliek között, és az Izraelt ért palesztin támadás, október hetedike óta a Gázai övezet egyetlen, nem izraeli kézben lévő kapuja a világ felé.

A nő a barátjával úszott a Vörös-tengerben, és azt hitték, hogy egy tonhallal találkoztak és nem egy cápával – írja az Independent.
A nőt eszméletlen állapotban találták meg a tengerben, és mentőautóval szállították kórházba. Állapota jelenleg stabil.

Három év börtönnel sújtotta az illetékes egyiptomi büntetőbíróság Patrick Zaki emberi jogi aktivistát hamis hírek terjesztésének vádjával – közölte kedden az Egyiptomi Kezdeményezés a Személyi Jogokért (EIPR) nevű jogvédő szervezet.
A Bolognában posztgraduális tanulmányokat folytató egyiptomi aktivistát 2020 februárjában vették őrizetbe, amikor rövid családi látogatásra érkezett vissza hazájába. A kairói repülőtéren fogták el a titkosszolgálat munkatársai.
Az EIPR-nek dolgozó Zakit álhírek terjesztésével vádolták egy cikk alapján, amelyet 2019-ben írt az egyiptomi keresztényekről, és az állt benne, hogy az arab országban élő keresztényeket üldözik.
A férfi 22 hónapot töltött hatósági őrizetben, majd szabadlábon védekezhetett a Manszúra városában zajlott per lezárultáig.
Az állambiztonsági ügyekben illetékes vésztörvényszék ítélete ellen nem lehet fellebbezést benyújtani, ugyanakkor az államfő megsemmisítheti.
A jogvédők szerint Zakit letartóztatták és börtönbe szállítják. „Ez az igazságszolgáltatás megcsúfolása, de sajnos, ez már megszokottá vált” – hangoztatta Hosszám Bagát, az EIPR vezetője, aki egyben felszólította az elnököt az ítélet haladéktalan megsemmisítésére.
Egy igazságügyi forrás azt közölte, hogy a hatósági őrizetben töltött időt beszámítják a szabadságvesztésbe.
Diplomaták szerint a nyugati országok nagykövetségeinek képviselői nem lehettek jelen a keddi ítélethirdetésen.
Giorgia Meloni olasz kormányfő kedden hangsúlyozta: továbbra is dolgoznak azon, hogy Patrick Zaki ügyében „pozitív megoldás” szülessen.

Az egyiptomi egészségügyi minisztérium közlése szerint a sérültek ellátására 12 mentőautó sietett a helyszínre, a környékbeli kórházak pedig fokozott készültséggel várják az ellátásra szorulókat.
Mohamed al-Serif, Alexandria kormányzója az al-Ahram állami hírlapnak adott nyilatkozatában elmondta, hogy a többnyire nyaralókat elszállásoló épület összeomlása előtt egy „függőleges törésvonal” futott végig az épületen.
Egyiptomban nem ritka jelenség az épületek hirtelen összeomlása: sok helyen egyáltalán nincs szabályozva a lakóházak karbantartása, így az elöregedő épületek biztonsági körülményeit sem felügyelik a hatóságok.
Az észak-afrikai országban évről évre nagy számban épülnek fel engedély nélkül épületek és lakóházak, annak ellenére, hogy a kormány az elmúlt években igyekezett hatékonyabban fellépni az illegális építkezések ellen.

A CNN jelentése szerint az egyiptomi hatóságok megtiltották a fürdőzést egy egyiptomi vörös-tengeri üdülőhely strandjának közelében, miután csütörtökön egy cápatámadásban életét vesztette egy orosz állampolgár. A halálos incidens az Egyiptom keleti partvidékén fekvő népszerű turistavárosban, Hurghadában történt.
A helyszínt a hatóságok lezárták, a fürdőzést pedig megtiltották a strandon.
Viktor Voropajev orosz főkonzul megerősítette, az 1999-es születésű orosz állampolgár „cápatámadás következtében halt meg, hozzátéve, hogy a halálhírt az egyiptomi illetékes hatóságok is megerősítették. Jasmine Fouad környezetvédelmi miniszter egy bizottságot is összehívott az eset kivizsgálására.
A környezetvédelmi miniszter ezen felül arra utasította a helyi hatóságokat, hogy a lehető legmagasabb szintű biztonságot biztosítsák a Vörös-tenger partjaira látogatók számára, s tegyenek meg minden lehetséges intézkedést annak érdekében, hogy ne ismétlődhessen meg az incidens.
Az egyiptomi környezetvédelmi minisztérium által kiadott közleményben arra is kitértek, hogy egy erre szakosodott csapatnak később sikerült befognia a támadó tigriscápát, jelenleg pedig vizsgálatokat végeznek rajta, hogy kiderítsék a támadás okát, s megállapítsák, hogy ez ugyanaz a cápa-e, mely a korábbi incidenseket okozta.
A halálos cápatámadás nyomán a környezetvédelmi minisztérium péntektől kétnapos fürdőzési tilalmat rendelt el, így a környéken sem úszni, sem búvárkodni, sem pedig más vízi sporttevékenységet nem lehet űzni a Hurghadától északra fekvő Gouna és a tőle délre fekvő Soma-öböl közötti területen.

Legkevesebb 17 ember életét vesztette csütörtökön a közép-egyiptomi Aszjút térségében, miután összeütközött egy autóbusz és egy teherautó – közölte az egyiptomi egészségügyi minisztérium.

Aszjút regionális kormányzója azonnali hatállyal megtiltotta a kamionközlekedést este nyolc és reggel hét óra között a Dahla-al-Halka-Aszjút útvonalon – írta az al-Ahrám című állami napilap. A lap szerint a döntést a kamionsofőrök óvatlansága miatt az útszakaszon bekövetkezett számos baleset indokolta.
Egyiptomban gyakoriak a közlekedési balesetek a gyengén karbantartott utak és a közlekedési szabályok be nem tartása miatt. A 105 milliós lélekszámú országban hivatalos adatok szerint 2021-ben hétezren haltak meg közlekedési balesetben.

Huszonkilenc embert – közöttük tizenhárom külföldit – helyezett előzetes letartóztatásba az egyiptomi ügyészség egy internetes kriptovalutás csalásban való részvétel vádjával, amellyel 580 ezer eurónyi összeget zsebeltek be egyiptomiak ezreinek megtévesztésével – jelentette vasárnap az állami média.
Az ügyészség szombati közleménye szerint a HoggPool nevű internetes oldal nagy hasznot ígért az ügyfeleinek, akiket csalárd módon toborzott. „Egy szoftvert adtak el az embereknek, és azt ígérték nekik, hogy négyezer egyiptomi font befektetéssel harmincezer, százezer fontos befektetéssel pedig egymillió fontot nyernek” – mondta szombaton az egyik legnézettebb talk-show műsorvezetője.
Az augusztusban indított HoggPool februárig fizetett az ügyfeleknek, majd hirtelen bezárt, és eltűnt a pénzzel – írta az al-Ahrám című állami napilap, amely piramisjátéknak minősítette a csalást.
A lap szerint egyiptomiak ezrei adták bele megtakarított pénzük egy részét a vonzónak tűnő befektetésbe, a hivatalosnál jóval magasabb dollárátváltási árfolyam csábításában.
A belügyminisztérium szerint a gyanúsítottakat – tizenhat egyiptomit és tizenhárom külföldit – ugyanannak a meg nem nevezett országnak az állampolgárait – őrizetbe vették, 95 mobiltelefont, 3367 SIM-kártyát és 41 külföldi bankkártyát lefoglaltak, miután az elkövetők Riot néven új oldal indítására készültek.
A 105 millió egyiptomi jelenleg az ország egyik legsúlyosabb gazdasági válságát éli. Egy év alatt az egyiptomi font értéke a felére csökkent a dollárhoz viszonyítva, az infláció pedig januárban 26,5 százalék volt.

Megöltek négy egyiptomi rendőrt a Szuezi-csatorna közelében elkövetett támadás során – közölték szombaton biztonsági források.
A tájékoztatás szerint két autó közelített az Iszmailíja város közelében található egyik ellenőrzőponthoz. A járművekből két fegyveres férfi szállt ki, majd tüzet nyitottak a rendőrökre. A négy halott mellett tizenegy másik rendőr megsebesült. A támadók egyikét lelőtték, a másiknak sikerült elmenekülnie.
A hatóságok szerint nagy valószínűséggel terrorcselekmény történhetett. Csaknem három éve ez lenne az első ilyen jellegű merénylet a Szuezi-csatorna nyugati oldalán. Az Iszlám Állam terrorszervezethez köthető dzsihadista csoportok támadásai az utóbbi években a keleti partvonal mentén a Sínai-félszigetre összpontosítottak.
