Figyelmeztetést adtak ki a floridai egészségügyi hatóságok, miután a nemrégiben lecsapó hurrikánt követve rekordszintre emelkedett a húsevő baktériumok száma a vizekben.
A szeptemberben és októberben Floridában pusztító Helene és Milton hurrikán az óriási pusztítás mellett valami mást is maga után hagyott, olyan baktériumokat, amelyek „húsevő” fertőzést okoznak. Már a múlt hónapban, a Helene hurrikán után is megnőtt az ilyen esetek száma, úgyhogy az egészségügyi hatóságok arra figyelmeztetnek, hogy az emberek tartsák magukat távol a vizektől. Ha valaki mégis úgy döntene, hogy tengeri úszásra indul bármilyen pici sebbel a testén, viseljen vízálló kötést, és alaposan mossa le a sós vízzel érintkező sebet szappannal és folyó vízzel.
A Gram-negatív Vibrio baktériumok rengeteg betegséget okozhatnak, köztük kolerát is. Egyik fajuk, a V. vulnificus (egy „húsevő” baktérium) különösen veszélyes, ugyanis amikor ezek a tengerekben élő baktériumok bejutnak a nyílt sebekbe, gyorsan elpusztítják a bőrt, a zsírt és az izmokat borító szöveteket, intenzív fájdalmat és duzzanatot okozva. Rövid idő alatt akár halálhoz is vezethetnek, körülbelül minden ötödik ember meghal a fertőzést követő egy-két napon belül.
Helene szeptember végi érkezése előtt Floridában viszonylag enyhe Vibrio baktériumszezon volt – írja a Gizmodo. Ezt követően azonban jelentős emelkedés következett be: szeptember végéig 24 esetet jelentettek, majd a Milton lecsapása után 38 új esetet. Összességében eddig 74 esetről és 13 halálesetről számoltak be, szemben a tavaly dokumentált 46 esettel és 11 halálesettel szemben. A legtöbb eset az egyik vagy mindkét vihar által erősen sújtott partmenti áradások által érintett területeken történt.
2022-ben már történt valami hasonló, akkor az Ian hurrikán miatt. A szakemberek most biztosak abban, hogy a Helene és a Milton erős viharhullámai ugyanazt tették, mint ami a korábbi hurrikán esetében történt, összekeverték a tengervizet a Vibrio vulnificusszal szennyezett sós öbölvízzel, és a baktériumokkal teli keveréket messze a szárazföld belseje felé vitték.

Több halálos áldozatot követelt a Milton hurrikán, amely szerda éjszaka vonult át Florida állam középső része fölött, tengeráradást, valamint villámáradásokat és árvizeket okozva. A hatóságok négy ember holttestét találták meg a keleti partvidéken fekvő St. Lucie megyében.
Helyi idő szerint csütörtök reggel hárommillió fogyasztónál nem volt áram, a szakemberek a vihar átvonulása után szinte azonnal nekiláttak a szolgáltatás helyreállításának. Florida állam kezdeményezésére több ezer villanyszerelő állt készenlétben, akik az ország több részéből érkeztek.
Az illetékesek csütörtökön arra kérték az embereket, hogy maradjanak otthonukban, ezzel is könnyítve a mentőegységek mozgását.
Joe Biden elnök a vihar érkezését megelőzően katasztrófahelyzetet hirdetett, ami szövetségi forrásokat is elérhetővé tett a felkeszüléshez, valamint a károk elhárítására.
A Milton hurrikán kárainak felmérése csütörtökön elkezdődött, valamint a kutató-mentőegységek az érintett területeket járták végig a reggeli óráktól, ajtóról ajtóra kopogtatva.
Ron DeSantis kormányzó csütörtök reggeli tájékoztatóján elmondta, hogy a vihar idején is több helyen kellett emberélet védelmében mentőegységnek beavatkozniuk. A kormányzó elmondta, hogy a vihar által érintett tengeri hidak stabilitását a szakemberek ellenőrzik, és amennyiben nem észlelnek károsodást, újranyitják azokat a forgalom előtt.
A helyreállításhoz kapcsolódóan a kárt szenvedett vállalkozásoknak gyorshitelt biztosítanak alacsony kamattal, hogy mielőbb folytatni tudják tevékenységüket.
A vihart megelőző napokban több millió embert utasítottak arra, hogy hagyják el otthonukat a várható tengerár miatt. A vihar miatt megemelkedő tenger elöntéssel fenyegette a partvidéki településeket. A floridai hatóságok a nemzeti gárda közel tízezer tagját mozgósították, hogy szükség esetén részt vegyenek az emberek mentésében is. Több mint 20 szövetségi állam adott segítséget.
A Milton hurrikánt komoly esőzések kísérték, több helyütt, így Tampa körzetében is 300 millimétert meghaladó eső hullott, aminek nyomán a város számos utcája víz alá került. Florida más helyein villámáradások és árvizek alakultak ki. Csütörtökön a reggeli órákban tucatnyi helyen volt érvényben figyelmeztetés villámárvizek veszélye miatt.

Újabb trópusi vihar formálódott a Mexikói-öbölben, amit Miltonnak keresztelt el az amerikai Nemzeti Hurrikánközpont (National Hurricane Center – NHC). A vihar Florida felé tart, az előrejelzések szerint útközben hurrikánná is erősödhet, mire jövő hét szerda-csütörtök magasságában eléri az állam partjait.
Az újabb vihar alig több mint egy hét után követi a Helene nevű hurrikánt, amely hatalmas pusztítást végzett az USA délkeleti részén, több mint 200 ember halálát okozva, de a hatóságok még mindig százakat keresnek.
Joe Biden amerikai elnök, aki csütörtökön a levegőből vette szemügyre a floridai pusztítást, több milliárd dollárra becsülte a károkat. S,ok település máig áramszolgáltatás és vezetékes ivóvíz nélkül van, több megközelíthetetlen.
Az NHC prognózisa alapján a Milton vasárnap éjjel halad át a Mexikói-öböl délnyugati részén, majd folytatja útján északkeleti irányban, és várhatóan a hét közepén éri el Floridát. Már vasárnapra és hétfőre is jelentős csapadékot jósolnak, szerdára érkezhet még több eső és heves szél. Az NHC arra kérte a térségben élőket, hogy figyeljék a helyi hatóságok tanácsaid és rendszeresen ellenőrizzék az előrejelzéseket, jelentette a CBS News.

Az Alberto hurrikán által megrongált szellemhajót sodort partra a víz az Egyesült Államokban. A hajón két ember tartózkodott, amikor a hurrikán lecsapott rájuk. A parti őrség biztonságban kimenekítette a két utast, a súlyosan megrongálódott hajónak azonban nyoma veszett.
Hetek óta eltűnt szellemhajót mosott partra a víz Floridában. A 39 éves Michael Barlow és egy barátja június elején hajózott a Mexikói-öbölben, de az Alberto hurrikán útjába keveredtek, ami súlyosan megrongálta a hajót.
A két férfit a parti őrség mentette ki mentőhelikopterrel, de a csaknem 14 méter hosszú Catherine nevű hajót állapota miatt hátra kellett hagyniuk.
A szellemhajóként elhíresült jármű 17 nappal a baleset után tűnt fel a radaron Pensacola partjainál, több mint háromszáz kilométerre onnan, ahol Barlowot és barátját kimentették.
A roncsokat Barlownak kell elszállíttatnia, az állami törvények szerint ugyanis pénzbüntetéssel, de akár még letöltendő börtönbüntetéssel is sújthatják, ha a sekély vízben hagyja a működésképtelen hajót.

A helyi rendőrség közlése szerint három férfi péntek este a floridai tengerpartra látogatott, és ismeretlen körülmények között mindhárman megfulladtak, miután úszni mentek.
Az AP szerint a hatóságok egyelőre nem azonosították az áldozatokat, akiket csak „fiatal férfiakként” írtak le, csupán annyit árultak el a nyilvánosságnak, hogy a fiatalok péntek délután érkeztek Panama City Beachre, és azonnal úszni mentek.
Tommy Ford, a floridai Bay megye seriffjének közlése szerint este fél 8 környékén futott be a egy segélyhívás a rendőrségre, miszerint három férfi bajba került a part közelében.
A hatóságok a helyszínre siettek, a kutató-mentő csapatok pedig alaposan átfésülték a vizet, s végül este fél 11-re mindhármukat megtalálták, ám addigra már egyikükön sem tudtak segíteni. Egyelőre nem tudni, mi vezetett a tragédiához.

A 45 éves nő karjának egy részét amputálni kellett, valamint a csípőjén is súlyos sérüléseket szerzett.
Három fürdőző is cápatámadásban sebesült meg Florida partjainál, Walton megyében. A helyi hatóságok közlése szerint mindkét incidens néhány napja történt: egy 45 éves nő péntek délután sérült meg, sajnálatos mód a karja egy részét amputálni kellett.
Mindemellett a csípőjén is súlyos sérüléseket szerzett, a támadást követően mentőhelikopterrel azonnal kórházba szállították. A másik incidens kevesebb mint két órával később, egy négy mérföldre lévő strandon történt.
Ott két tinédzserre támadt rá a cápa a derékig érő vízben. Úgy tudni, az egyik lány súlyos sérülést szenvedett a lábán és a kezén, a másik a lábfején szerzett kisebb sérüléseket – derül ki a Sky News és a BBC beszámolóiból.
Mint írják, a hatóságok csónakokkal járőröznek a partszakaszon, emellett úgy határoztak, hogy néhány strandot ideiglenesen lezárnak. Szombaton viszont újra megnyitották őket, ugyanakkor vörös és lila zászlókkal figyelmeztetik a fürdőzőket a cápákra, kiemelve, hogy legyenek óvatosak.
Korábban azt is megírtuk, hogy január közepén cápatámadásban sebesült meg egy tízéves kisfiú a Bahamákon. A gyerek állítólag egy cápa-búvárexpedíción vett részt az egyik üdülőhelyen, s az incidens után kórházba szállították, a lábán szenvedett könnyebb sérüléseket.
