«Кожен звіт, який я отримую з Гаїті, наголошує на масштабах страждань і доводить до свідомості, що гаїтянам потрібна термінова підтримка, і вони потребують її зараз», — сказав Верховний комісар ООН з прав людини Фолькер Тюрк.
Він повторив свій заклик до міжнародної спільноти направити спеціальні збройні сили, щоб допомогти поліції та владі Гаїті відновити порядок.
Карибська країна, найбідніша в Америці, охоплена політичною та економічною кризою після вбивства в липні 2021 року президента Жовенеля Моїза.
Конкуруючі банди тепер контролюють більшу частину столиці Порт-о-Пренс.
У своєму щоквартальному звіті за січень-березень, опублікованому у вівторок, ООН заявила, що насильство «стає дедалі екстремальнішим і найчастішим та неухильно поширюється, оскільки банди прагнуть розширити свій контроль».
«Тільки у квітні понад 600 людей було вбито внаслідок нової хвилі крайнього насильства, що охопила кілька районів столиці», — заявили в офісі Тюрка, додавши, що тепер постраждали райони, які раніше вважалися безпечними.
«Це слідує за вбивством щонайменше 846 осіб за перші три місяці 2023 року, на додаток до 393 поранених і 395 викрадених за цей період зростання насильства на 28% більше порівняно з попереднім кварталом».
У звіті йдеться, що банди використовували снайперів, щоб стріляти «без розбору» по людях на вулиці та «стріляти по будинках», а людей «заживо спалювали у громадському транспорті».
Тюрк зазначив, що держава «не мала можливості відреагувати», тому цивільні особи формували групи лінчувальників для боротьби з бандами. Це призвело до зростання «масових вбивств та лінчування членів банд». Лише за квітень зафіксовано щонайменше 164 такі вбивства.

Епідемія почалася в бідному районі Порт-о-Пренса, але ООН попереджає, що вона поширюється за межі столиці.
“Незважаючи на проблеми з доступом і матеріально-технічне забезпечення, ООН разом зі своїми гуманітарними партнерами підтримує Гаїті в боротьбі з холерою. Хворих на холеру лікують у 43 закладах столиці та околиць. Ми терміново просимо підтримки міжнародної спільноти для вирішення проблеми епідемії холери та інших гуманітарних потреб країни”, – заявив речник генсека ООН Стефан Дюжаррік.
Холера поширюється надзвичайно швидко, особливо за відсутності достатньої кількості чистої води та нормального медичного обслуговування. А медики попереджають, що ситуація може погіршитися через густоту населення.

Геологічна служба США (USGS) повідомила, що на півдні Гаїті в понеділок стався землетрус магнітудою 5,3 бала.
Перелякані жителі міста Ле-Кей, де пів року тому потужний землетрус спричинив масштабні руйнування, вибігли на вулиці. Повідомлень про значні пошкодження інфраструктури та постраждалих наразі немає. Слабші сейсмічні поштовхи тривали в острівній країні майже годину.
Епіцентр землетрусу знаходився поблизу Ле-Кей, але поштовхи відчувалися і в столиці Порт-о-Пренс.
«За даними деяких відомств, землетрус хоча й викликав паніку, але не спричинив шкоди», – написав у своєму мікроблозі Джеррі Чендлер, керівник служби з надзвичайних ситуацій Гаїті.
У серпні минулого року на півдні країни стався потужний землетрус магнітудою 7,2 бала, який забрав життя понад двох тисяч людей. Стихійне лихо знищило десятки тисяч житлових будинків.

Колишній колумбійський військовий, причетний до торішнього вбивства президента Гаїті Жовенеля Моіза, буде депортований з Ямайки до своєї рідної країни 3 січня.

43-річний Маріо Антоніо Паласіос звинувачується владою Гаїті у тому, що він був частиною групи найманців, яка вбила Моіза в липні 2021 року, під час якого також була поранена його дружина.
Паласіос був заарештований на Ямайці в жовтні минулого року і засуджений за незаконний в’їзд до країни з Домініканської Республіки.
Уряд Ямайки видав наказ про депортацію за незаконний в’їзд до країни. Але острівна держава не має офіційного договору про екстрадицію з Гаїті, де Паласіос розшукується, сказав речник місцевої поліції.
Адвокати Паласіоса попросили його негайно звільнити із слідчого центру для дорослих Horizon Kingston, стверджуючи, що його затримання є незаконним.

На Гаїті в неділю, 2 січня, під час невдалого замаху на прем’єр-міністра країни Аріеля Анрі загинула людина, а ще декілька осіб постраждали.
Про це повідомляє VTV.
Зазначається, що інцидент стався під час церемонії святкування 218-річчя національної незалежності, коли після служби в соборі Сен-Шарль-Бороме в місті Гонаїв, в якій взяв участь очільник гаїтянського уряду, розпочалася стрілянина.
За попередніми даними, сам Анрі під час нападу не постраждав. Як пише видання, вказаний район посилено охоронявся поліцією, оскільки озброєне угруповання, що діє в регіоні, раніше попереджало лідера країни не з’являтися в Гонаїві.
Після атаки усі заходи, приурочені до святкування незалежності Гаїті від Франції, проголошеної 1 січня 1804 року, скасували.
Зауважимо, що Гаїті переживає політичну та соціальну кризу, яка загострилася від 7 липня після вбивства президента Жовенеля Моїза групою найманців.

Жахлива трагедія сталася на півночі Гаїті в місті Кап-Аіт’єн – стався вибух бензовозу, внаслідок якого щонайменше 53 людини загинули, понад 100 отримали поранення, опіки та травми. Очікується, що кількість жертв зростатиме.
Про це повідомляє видання АР. Відомо, що інцидент стався у ніч на вівторок, 14 грудня, пише APnews.
Як розповів заступник мера міста Кап-Аіт’єна Патрік Алмонор, внаслідок вибуху спалено близько 20 будинків поряд з місцем НП, було офіційно зареєстровано не менше 53 смертей та понад 100 поранених.
За його словами, кількість смертей продовжуватиме зростати, бо ще не всі знайдені, а люди, які померли у своїх будинках й які фактично згоріли живцем, ще не підраховані.
За заявою одного з очевидців трагедії, після вибуху натовп зібрався вздовж дороги та черпали відрами бензин з вантажівки, поки бригади швидкої допомоги допомагали постраждалим та збирали тіла загиблих. Варто зазначити, що вибух стався, коли Гаїті бореться з гострою нестачею палива і цінами на газ, що невпинно зростають.
Прем’єр-міністр країни Аріель Генрі заявив, що він спустошений у зв’язку з тим, що сталося, і це велика трагедія для Гаїті.
„На всій території буде оголошено триденну національну жалобу на згадку про жертв цієї трагедії, за якими сумує весь гаїтянський народ”, – написав він у Twitter.
Генрі також додав, що у цьому районі розміщують польові шпиталі, щоб допомогти постраждалим. Наразі місцевій лікарні гостро не вистачає медсестер, лікарів та предметів першої необхідності, щоб допомогти пораненим.

У суботу вранці біля південного узбережжя країни карибських островів затонув корабель. Одна місцева газета написала, що судно плавало між муніципалітетами Анс-р-Пітр і Маріго. Крім пасажирів, корабель також перевозив цемент, продукти харчування та паливо.
За словами тимчасового прем’єр-міністра острівної країни Аріеля Генрі, в результаті катастрофи загинули щонайменше 19 людей. Рятувальникам удалося врятувати з моря тридцять людей, – повідомив портал Life.
Причина корабельної аварії поки невідома, але один місцевий журналісти – із посиланням на очевидців – написав, що судно було перевантажене. Також повідомляється, що рятувальні роботи ускладнюються через серйозну нестачу палива на Гаїті.
