Mintegy ezer jármű ragadt a hóban egy hegyi autópályán és legalább 21 ember – köztük 9 gyerek – halálra fagyott az autójában, miután erős havazás volt Észak-Pakisztánban, Murree közelében. Voltak olyan autók, amelyekre fák dőltek rá.
A kormány bevetette a hadsereget, hogy letakarítsák az utakat és kimentsék azokat, akik még mindig az autóikban vannak, illetve élelmet és pokrócokat osszanak nekik. Murree-t katasztrófa sújtotta övezetnek nyilvánították, Punjab tartomány vezetője, Usman Buzdar vészhelyzetet rendelt el a kórházakban, rendőrőrsökön, kormányirodákban.
Az elmúlt napokban legalább 100 ezer autóval érkeztek turisták Murreebe, hogy megnézzék a havat. Emiatt pedig a városból ki- és befele vezető utakon is óriási dugók alakultak ki. Sheikh Rashid Ahmed belügyminiszter azt mondta, 15-20 éve nem volt ott akkora tömeg, ez okozta a krízist.
A havazást előre jelezte a meteorológiai szolgálat, ám ellenzéki politikusok szerint a tartomány vezetői nem figyelmeztették az embereket, nem kezelték megfelelően a tömeget, és ez vezetett a tragédiához.
Imran Khan miniszterelnök később azt írta Twitteren, hogy vizsgálatot rendelt el az ügyben, és új szabályozást vezetnek be, hogy megelőzzék a hasonló eseteket.

Rendkívül heves ciklon csapott le vasárnap Észak-Kaliforniára, ahol korábban erdőtüzek tomboltak. A San Franciscótól északkeletre, a Sierra Nevada hegységben található, rögös hegységben keletkezett tűz – az állam történelmének második legnagyobb erdőtüze – által letarolt 230 670 hektárnyi terület egyes részeiről már többször jelentettek sárcsuszamlásokat.
A meteorológiai szolgálat jelentése szerint hétfőn erős hóesés csapott le Kaliforniában, a Sierra Nevada hegység környékén 67,5 centiméter hó hullott.
Az utak egy részét teljesen lezárták, a forgalom a többi útvonalon is akadozik.

Információk szerint öten meghaltak az Elbruszon viharba került 19 fős orosz alpinistacsoportból – közölte pénteken az orosz rendkívüli helyzetek minisztériumának kabard- és balkárföldi kirendeltsége.
A bajba jutott csoport mintegy 5400 méter magasságba ért fel a hegyre, ahol a vezetőjük cserbenhagyta őket. A TASZSZ szerint a környéken mínusz 20 fokos a hőmérséklet és hóvihar van, a széllökések sebessége meghaladja az óránkénti 140 kilométert, a látótávolság pedig alig haladja meg az egy métert.
Az emberek szétszóródtak a hegyen, ezért a mentőalakulatok ötezer méternél kezdték a kutatást. Erőfeszítéseiket nagyban akadályozza az ítéletidő.
A csoportból 14 embert sikerült lehozni a hegyről, közülük 11-en kórházi ápolásra szorulnak. A mentéshez 69 embert és 16 műszaki eszközt vetettek be.
A mentőegységek a hegyen találkoztak a lefelé tartó hegyi vezetővel. Az Elbrusz nyugati csúcsa 5642 méter magas, ezzel Európa legmagasabb pontja.

Hollandiában közlekedési fennakadásokat okozott a Darcy nevű hóvihar, az országban életbe léptették a legmagasabb szintű, vörös riasztási fokozatot – írta vasárnap a helyi sajtó.
A nemzeti meteorológiai intézet szerint a nap nagy részében folytatódnak az erős széllökések és a havazás. A jelentések szerint ilyen rendkívüli időjárási helyzet utoljára 10 éve volt az országban.
A holland állami vasúttársaság vasárnap reggel bejelentette, hogy délutánig felfüggesztik a vonatjáratokat. Több buszjárat is leállt a nap folyamán, továbbá az eindhoveni repülőtér is arról tájékoztatott, hogy délután 14 óráig nem üzemeltetik járataikat.
A holland hatóságok felhívták a figyelmet, hogy ilyen szélsőséges időjárási körülmények között a gépjárművezetés is igen kockázatos, és óva intették a lakosságot az útnakindulástól. Noha a közutakat 163 ezer kilométeres szakaszon felsózták, az útfelületek hőmérséklete fagypont alatt van az országban.
A szomszédos Belgiumban ugyancsak havazott vasárnapra virradóra, hétfőtől pedig komoly lehűlés várható.

Áramkieséseket okozott hétfőn Lengyelország keleti részén, mindenekelőtt a délkelet-lengyelországi Kárpátaljai vajdaságban a sűrű hóesés, a tűzoltók kidőlt fákat, letört faágakat távolítanak el – közölte a lengyel média.
A nehéz, nedves hó miatt a Kárpátaljai vajdaságban több helyen leszakadt a villanyvezeték, emiatt hétfő délutánra 11 ezer fogyasztó maradt áram nélkül. Az adat a nap folyamán változik, a szolgáltatók reggel óta folyamatosan számolják fel a keletkezett károkat. Dél körül még 40 ezer áram nélküli háztartásról számoltak be.
A vajdaságban a tűzoltókat hétfőn 180 alkalommal riasztották, mindenekelőtt a leszakadt faágak és a kidőlt fák által eltorlaszolt utakat tették járhatóvá. Senki sem sérült meg.
A fagypont körüli hőmérséklet mellett a hétfő délutáni órákban a vajdaságtól északra fekvő más régiókban is intenzívebb hóesést tapasztaltak.
