Meghalt négy török katona Irak északi részén fegyveresekkel kitört összecsapásokban a török védelmi minisztérium vasárnap esti bejelentése szerint.
A tárca hozzátette, hogy az incidens Iraknak azon a részén zajlott le, ahol a török hadsereg műveleteket hajt végre.
Ankara számos hadműveletet indított Törökországban, Szíriában és Irakban olyan kurd lázadók ellen, akik a török kormány és nyugati szövetségesei által terrorszervezetnek minősített Kurdisztáni Munkáspárt (PKK) tagjai vagy kapcsolatban állnak vele.
A legutóbbi művelet áprilisban kezdődött Észak-Irakban.
A PKK, amelynek bázisai és kiképzőtáborai az iraki autonóm kurdisztáni régióban vannak, 1984 óta harcot folytat a török állam ellen.
Az iraki kormány többször tiltakozását fejezte ki a területén zajló török hadműveletek ellen, és felszólította Ankarát, hogy vonja ki csapatait Irakból, s tartsa tiszteletben Irak szuverenitását.

Legalább tizennégy iráni zarándok meghalt egy buszbalesetben vasárnap Irakban.
A síita zarándokokat Kerbelába szállító busz egy tartálykocsival ütközött össze. A halálos áldozatok számáról eltérő beszámolók érkeztek, iraki újságírók szerint tizennégy halottja is lehet a szerencsétlenségnek – közölte az MTI.
Kerbela mintegy száz kilométerre délre található Bagdadtól, a síita muszlimok egyik legfontosabb zarándokhelye. Sokan közülük most kelnek útra, hogy meglátogassanak különböző kegyhelyeket a következő szombaton tartandó arbain előtt. Az ünnep a Mohamed próféta unokája, az iraki kerbelai csatában elesett Husszein imám halála utáni negyvennapos gyászidőszakot zárja le.
Az arbain a világ legjelentősebb vallási eseményeinek egyike: rendkívüli biztonsági óvintézkedések mellett rendezik, miután a síitákat hitetlennek tartó Iszlám Állam dzsihadistái számtalanszor követtek már el merényletet hasonló alkalmakkor.
Husszein mártírhalálával alakult ki a síiták vallási mozgalma. Husszein halála volt az iszlám történetének első, klasszikus értelemben vett mártírhalála.
Az imám halála a síiták legszentebb gyásznapja, a szunniták számára ez egy nem kötelező – de Mohamed próféta által javasolt – böjti nap.
A síiták felekezetenként másképp emlékeznek meg a szomorú eseményről. Egyes közösségek tagjai önmarcangolással (saját és társaik testének megkorbácsolása, fejük felhasítása), más síiták pedig a mellkasukat ütlegelik, dobolnak, vagy épp saját kardjukat magasba lendítve kiabálják Husszein nevét.

A zavargások azután törtek ki, hogy Muktada asz-Szadr iraki síita vezető hétfőn bejelentette lemondását. Támogatói – akik a múlt hónapban már megrohamozták a parlamentet, majd többhetes ülősztrájkot tartottak az épületnél – erre reagálva hétfőn több kormányépületet is megostromoltak a fővárosban, és nemcsak a rendőrökkel, de az Irán által támogatott politikai csoportokkal is összecsaptak.
Az iraki védelmi erők hétfő délután bejelentették, hogy helyi idő szerint este 7 órától az egész országra érvényes kijárási tilalmat vezetnek be, amelynek végét még nem határozták meg. Az ország déli részén több síita többségű tartományban is hasonló zavargások törtek ki. Musztafa al-Kádimi, Irak ügyvivő miniszterelnöke a zavargásokra való tekintettel felfüggesztette a kabinet ülésezését, és felszólította asz-Szadrt, hogy utasítsa támogatóit a kormányépületek elhagyására.
Az ENSZ iraki missziója hétfőn szintén arra kérte a tüntetőket, hogy hagyják el az épületeket, emellett felszólította asz-Szadr támogatóit, hogy „óvakodjanak az olyan cselekedetektől, amelyek események megállíthatatlan láncolatát indítanák el”.
A nyilatkozatban hangsúlyozták: „az állam túlélése forog kockán”. A síita hitszónok széles körű támogatásnak örvendett, ugyanis elutasította mind az amerikai, mind az iráni beavatkozást Irak belpolitikájába. Azt mondta, szerinte senkinek nem szabadna hivatalt vállalnia azok közül, akik Irak 2003-as amerikai megszállása óta hatalmon voltak. Jóllehet Muktada asz-Szadr pártja megnyerte a múlt októberben tartott választásokat, a kormányalakításhoz mégsem volt meg a kellő többségük.
Az azóta eltelt időszakban a befolyásos vezető olyan kabinetet szeretett volna felállítani, amelyben nem kapnak szerepet riválisai. A kormányalakításra tett próbálkozásai azonban mind kudarcba fulladtak, így a vezető júniusban összes parlamenti képviselőjét visszahívta – írja az MTI.
A több hónapnyi bizonytalanság és a pártok hatalomért folyó harca egyaránt erősítette a növekvő politikai instabilitást az országban, a hétfői ráadásul asz-Szadrnak nem az első visszalépése: a hitszónok többször is így reagált, amikor a politikai egyeztetések eredményei nem neki kedveztek – írta az AP. Sokan emiatt hétfőn bejelentett döntését is blöffnek tartják, azonban félő, hogy a helyzet feszültségének fokozódása még nagyobb politikai válsághoz vezet.

A héten már másodszor törtek be a befolyásos síita hitszónok, Muktada asz-Szadr hívei az iraki parlamentbe szombaton, hogy ülősztrájkkal tiltakozzanak az Irán-barát politikai csoportokat tömörítő síita szövetség kormányalakítási próbálkozásai ellen.
Szemtanúk szerint a tüntetőknek annak ellenére sikerült bejutni az erősen őrzött, Zöld Zónaként ismert bagdadi kormányzati negyedbe, hogy a biztonsági erők könnygázt is bevetettek ellenük. A megmozdulás résztvevői reformokat követeltek és a korrupció ellen tiltakoztak.
Mohammed al-Halbuszi házelnök határozatlan időre felfüggesztette a parlamenti üléseket – írta az INA iraki állami hírügynökség.
A bagdadi egészségügyi minisztérium közölte: mintegy száz civilt és a biztonsági erők huszonöt tagját kórházba kellett szállítani.
Egy Irán-barát politikai csoportokat tömörítő síita szövetség, a Koordinációs Keret is utcára hívta az embereket, ezért szakértők attól tartanak, hogy összecsapásokba torkollhat a helyzet.
A szövetség közleményében felszólította az irakiakat, hogy vegyenek részt az állam legitimitása és intézményei védelmében tartott békés megmozduláson.
Musztafa al-Kádimi ügyvivő miniszterelnök párbeszédet sürgetett, aláhúzva, hogy „ezer nap csendes párbeszéd jobb, mint egy perc, amikor iraki vér hullik.” A kormányfő nyugalomra és türelemre intette a lakosságot – írta meg az MTI.

A közel-keleti országot április közepe óta – néhány hét alatt – nem kevesebb mint kilenc homokvihar sújtotta. A hatóságok Irakot a világ öt, az éghajlatváltozás és az elsivatagosodás hatásainak leginkább kitett országa közé sorolják. A rossz időjárási körülmények és a heves porviharok érkezése miatt Musztafa al-Kádimi miniszterelnök elrendelte a munka felfüggesztését a közintézményekben. Ez alól kivételt képeznek az egészségügyi intézmények és a biztonsági ügynökségek – derült ki a kormányfői hivatal közleményéből.
A legfeljebb 400 méteres látótávolság miatt a bagdadi repülőtér felfüggesztette a légi forgalmat. Hasonlóképpen döntöttek a déli Nedzsef síita szent város nemzetközi repülőterén, valamint az északi Erbílben, az autonóm iraki Kurdisztán fővárosában.
A repülőtereken az elmúlt hetekben már többször is kénytelenek voltak rövid időre felfüggeszteni a járatok közlekedését.
Az Irakot sújtó legutóbbi két homokviharban egy ember meghalt, míg tízezer kórházba került.
A következő két évtizedben Irakban évente várhatóan 272 „poros nap” lesz, és ez 2050-re a környezetvédelmi minisztérium egyik tisztviselője szerint a 300 napos küszöbértéket is eléri.
A hatóságok a jelenség elleni küzdelemre javasolt intézkedések között említik „a szélvédőként működő erődök létrehozását”, miközben Barhám Száleh elnök szerint az elsivatagosodás az ország teljes területének 39 százalékát érinti.

Újabb homokvihart jelentettek Irakból hétfőn, a rossz látási viszonyok miatt leállították a forgalmat a bagdadi repülőtéren, az egészségügyi minisztérium pedig azt közölte, hogy mintegy kétezren kerültek kórházba légzési problémák miatt.
Szejf al-Badr, a tárca szóvivője felszólította az embereket, hogy amennyiben lehetséges, maradjanak otthon, az utcán pedig viseljenek maszkot.
Az INA iraki hírügynökség azt közölte, hogy leállt a forgalom a bagdadi nemzetközi repülőtéren is, miután a kifutópályán 300 méterre csökkent a látótávolság.
Lezárták a dél-iraki Nedzsef, valamint az északkeleti Szulejmáníje repülőterét is.
Országszerte bezártak az iskolák és az egyetemek, a hétfőn esedékes vizsgákat keddre halasztották.
A helyi meteorológiai szolgálat arról tájékoztatott, hogy hétfő este további viharok várhatóak.
Az ENSZ Környezetvédelmi Programjának (UNEP) 2016-os jelentése szerint az országban 2026-ig akár 300 homokvihar is pusztíthat, novemberben pedig a Világbank azt közölte, hogy 2050-re Irak elveszítheti vízkészletei 20 százalékát.

Több olajkutat is elfoglaltak a kurd hadsereg erői szombaton Irakban, Kirkuk északi részén – jelentette be az iraki állami olajvállalat a Reuters hírügynökség értesülései szerint. A közlemény szerint a kurdok teljes technikai személyzettel érkeztek és erőszak nélkül átvették az irányítást a kutaknál.
A környék régóta komoly vitákat generál az ott élők körében. Az iraki erők még 2017-ben vették vissza a kirkuki olajmezők feletti irányítást a kurdoktól. Korábban a kurdok foglalták ezt a területet, miután az iraki kormány összeomlott és az Iszlám Állam terroristái vették át az irányítást a régióban.

Törökország rendszeresen hajt végre rajtaütéseket az Ankara és nyugati szövetségesei által „terroristának” minősített Kurdisztáni Munkáspárt állásai ellen, amelynek bázisai és kiképzőtáborai vannak a Szindzsár térségben, valamint az iraki Kurdisztáni hegyvidéki területeken.
Eltökéltek vagyunk, hogy megmentsük nemes nemzetünk a terrorizmustól, mely 40 éve mérgezi az országunk. A küzdelmünk egészen addig fog tartani, amíg nem semlegesítettük a legutolsó terroristát is Hulusi Akar török védelmi miniszter
A török védelmi minisztérium szerint a művelet célja egy Törökország elleni nagyszabású PKK-támadás meghiúsítása volt.
Hulusi Akar török védelmi miniszter azt is hozzátette, hogy a török pilóták sikeres csapást mértek a terrorszervezet búvóhelyeire, barlangokra, alagutakra és lőszerraktárakra. A miniszter azt nem árulta el, hogy összesen hány katona vesz részt az offenzívában, és azt sem, hogy hány kurd terroristát tudtak semlegesíteni. Azt azonban jelezte, hogy a művelet a következő órákban és napokban nagyobb intenzitással fog folytatódni.
