Kiszabadult a fogságból az a tíz tengerész, akiket februárban a gaboni partoknál kalózok raboltak el egy kínai halászhajóról – jelentette be a nigériai hadsereg.
Mohammed Yahaya alezredes tájékoztatása szerint a hat kínai, három indonéz és négy nigériai állampolgárt Nigéria délkeleti részén tartották fogva, és 300 ezer dollár (92 millió forint) váltságdíj ellenében engedték el elrablóik.
A hadsereg szerint a halászhajót a kalózok arra használták, hogy a segítségével más, a környékbeli vizeken áthaladó konténerhajókra támadjanak.
A gyakori kalóztámadások miatt az Angolától Szenegálig húzódó, közel 2,35 millió négyzetkilométeres Guineai-öböl jelenleg a világ legveszélyesebb térsége a hajók számára. A Nemzetközi Tengerészeti Hivatal (IMB) adatai szerint a 2020-ban elkövetett 135 kalóztámadásból 130-at itt hajtottak végre.

A három kiszabadult iráni állampolgár az FV Siraj nevű halászhajó legénységének volt a tagja, amelyet 2015 márciusában ejtettek foglyul a tengeri rablók.

Szomáliai kalózok 2010 és 2019 között összesen 2300 embert ejtettek túszul. Csütörtökön újabb hajót ért kalóztámadás. A panamai zászló alatt közlekedő Aegean II motorhibával küzdött, amikor fegyveresek rontottak rá. A hajó legénysége húsz emberből áll.
