Раніше джерело в поліції повідомило про п’ятьох загиблих і трьох поранених.
Згідно із заявою свого прессекретаря в соціальній мережі X, президент Вільям Руто скликав засідання Ради національної безпеки ввечері в столиці Найробі у зв’язку з інцидентом в окрузі Елгейо-Мараквет. Однак він не надав жодних подробиць про кількість жертв або обставини аварії.
Прессекретар уряду Ісаак Мваура, також в ефірі телеканалу X, в лаконічній заяві повідомив, що більше інформації про аварію буде оприлюднено найближчим часом.
Востаннє військовий вертоліт розбився в Кенії в червні 2021 року, у тому випадку він упав на землю поблизу Найробі під час посадки. Загинуло щонайменше десять солдатів.

1 лютого в столиці Кенії Найробі вибухнула вантажівка з газом, внаслідок чого загинули щонайменше двоє людей, ще 222 дістали поранення.
Про це повідомляє ВВС.
Вантажівка з газом вибухнула близько 23:30 за місцевим часом, „запаливши величезну вогняну кулю”, сказав представник уряду.
Пошкоджені будинки, підприємства та автомобілі. Розгорілась величезна пожежа поблизу багатоквартирних будинків.
Раніше в уряді заявляли, що вибух стався на газовому заводі. Причина ще встановлюється.
Речник уряду Ісаак Мваура сказав, що місце вибуху вже охороняється, і для координації рятувальних операцій створено командний центр.
„Кенійцям радимо триматися якомога далі від оточеної території, щоб забезпечити проведення рятувальної операції з мінімальними перешкодами”, – додав він.
Повідомляється, що вогонь охопив кілька житлових комплексів, тому кількість жертв може зрости.

Влада Кенії заборонила діяльність п’яти релігійних груп, які звинувачуються в смерті від голоду понад 400 вірян.
Відповідно до заяви уряду, лідер Міжнародної церкви Good News Пол Нтенге Маккензі казав своїм послідовникам, що вони зустрінуться з Ісусом, якщо будуть голодувати до смерті.
У квітні справжнім шоком стала новина про те, що в лісі поблизу міста Малінді на півночі країни знайшли тіла 98 членів церковної громади.
Маккензі був заарештований і постав перед судом за підозрою в тероризмі.
Ліцензію на діяльність секти анулювали 19 травня. Тим часом кількість знайдених у лісі тіл зросла до 425. Хоча багато жертв померли від голоду, результати розтину свідчать, що сотні людей були задушені або забиті до смерті.
Влада заборонила діяльність ще чотирьох невеликих церков, у тому числі молитовний центр і церкву «Нове життя», які очолював відомий телевізійний проповідник Езекіель Одеро, близький до Маккензі. Одеро був заарештований у квітні й звинувачений у масових убивствах, підбурюванні до самогубства, радикалізації своїх послідовників і відмиванні грошей.
Хоча пізніше розслідування показало, що діяльність двох сект була пов’язана, у травні Одеро звільнили під заставу, а Маккензі продовжили досудове ув’язнення ще на 47 днів.
Згідно з даними уряду Кенії, у країні 53-мільйонним населенням переважна частина людей є християнами. Водночас тут діють близько чотирьох тисяч «церков», лідери яких не мають богословської освіти. Діяльність таких сект часто полягає лише в експлуатації віруючих та зборі з них пожертв.
Уряди країни робили кілька спроб придушити діяльність сект, але часто зазнавали невдач, оскільки ці організації мають значну підтримку серед населення й наполягають на своїх конституційних правах, заснованих на відокремленні держави від церкви.

Як ми повідомляли раніше, у Кенії спалахнули протести проти нових податків. Унаслідок заворушень загинули понад два десятки людей, арештовані сотні учасників, у школах через надзвичайний стан зробили екстрені канікули.

Протести в Кенії почалися, коли уряд запровадив низку нових податків для населення. Зокрема підвищив ПДВ на паливо з 8% до 16%, що призвело до стрімкого зростання транспортних витрат і цін на продукти харчування, а також обклав додатковими податками заробітну плату.
За словами політичного аналітика CNN, кенійці вважають, що уряд підвів їх і не дотримав своєї обіцянки покращити умови життя. Чинний президент склав присягу 10 місяців тому. Протягом цього періоду вартість життя продовжувала зростати, а нове підвищення податків лише погіршило ситуацію.
Причиною розчарування народу Кенії стало й те, що президент країни обіцяв після своєї інавгурації створити нові робочі місця і зосередитися на виробництві продуктів харчування, адже країна бореться з надзвичайно високою інфляцією, безробіттям та борговим тягарем після кризи, спричиненої епідемією коронавірусу.

Щонайменше шестеро людей загинуло під час антиурядових протестів по всій країні через нові податки в Кенії, повідомляє місцева влада.

У своїй заяві міністр внутрішніх справ Кенії Кітуре Кіндікі засудив насильство і мародерство, які супроводжували протести. За його словами, багато людей було вбито, кілька співробітників сил безпеки і цивільних осіб отримали серйозні поранення, а також було завдано значних збитків.
„Ми покінчимо з культурою безкарності”, – попередив він.
Джерела в поліції повідомили, що троє людей були вбиті в Млолонго, двоє в Кітенгелі і один в Емалі, недалеко від кенійської столиці Найробі.
Кілька протестувальників були вбиті в сутичках із силами безпеки.
У найробійських нетрях Кангемі 53 дитини були госпіталізовані, а деякі з них втратили свідомість після того, як сльозогінний газ був розпилений біля їхніх класів, повідомило джерело в системі охорони здоров’я.
У середу протести пройшли в кількох містах країни, іноді призводячи до сутичок між протестувальниками і силами безпеки.
Влада застосувала сльозогінний газ для розгону агресивного натовпу в кількох місцях.
Раїла Одінга, провідний діяч кенійської опозиції і один з організаторів антиурядових демонстрацій, звинуватив поліцію у використанні бойових набоїв.
У вівторок поліція заборонила демонстрації, заплановані опозицією на середу, стверджуючи, що влада не була поінформована заздалегідь.
Минулої п’ятниці в Кенії спалахнули смертоносні протести на заклик Раїли Одінги, який заявив, що причиною загибелі людей стала поліція, яка вирішила розігнати демонстрацію сльозогінним газом і бойовими патронами. Комісія з прав людини Кенії закликала провести розслідування інцидентів за участю поліції.
Одінга, який був опонентом Вільяма Руто на президентських виборах 2022 року, котрі опозиція назвала сфальсифікованими, планує проводити щотижневі акції протесту проти політики уряду. На початку липня Руто запровадив низку нових податків для населення країни, яке живе в умовах високої інфляції, зокрема підвищив ПДВ на паливо з 8 до 16 відсотків та обклав додатковими податками заробітну плату.

Щонайменше 51 людина загинула внаслідок ДТП на заході Кенії, повідомила місцева поліція.
Аварія сталася на головній дорозі між Керічо та Накуру. За словами очевидців, водій вантажівки, який перевозив контейнер, не впорався з керуванням і наїхав на пішоходів та продавців, а також автомобілі край дороги.
Поліцейські на місці події нарахували 51 тіло, але в уламках ще можуть залишатися постраждалі, повідомив ЗМІ командир поліції Ріфт-Веллі Том Одера. Товариство Червоного Хреста Кенії наступного дня поінформувало, що 32 людини з травмами були доставлені в лікарню.
За даними організації, рятувальні роботи довелося перервати через сильний дощ. Водночас, імовірно, у пошкоджених автомобілях ще залишаються люди.
Згідно з інформацією Національного агентства з безпеки дорожнього руху, незважаючи на зусилля як держави, так і приватного сектору зробити дороги більш безпечними, у Кенії щороку в ДТП гине близько трьох тисяч людей.

Як повідомляється, в суботу були ексгумовані тіла ще 22 жертв, таким чином загальна кількість померлих зросла до 201. Після прочісування лісу Шакахола на північному узбережжі Кенії не було знайдено жодного вцілілого.
Остаточна кількість жертв секти наразі невідома, оскільки родичі продовжують повідомляти про зниклих безвісти рідних. Станом на суботу зниклими безвісти вважаються 610 осіб.
Лідера секти Good News International Church Нтенге Маккензі затримали 14 квітня. Йому висунули звинувачення у тероризмі. Троє людей загинуло, ще кілька отримали травми внаслідок обвалення шестиповерхового будинку в Кіамбу, центральна Кенія.
Рятувальні роботи наразі тривають. Рятувальникам удалося витягнути з-під завалів дитину.
Декількох людей вдалося врятувати, їх госпіталізували із важкими травмами, повідомив губернатор округу Кіамбу Кімані Ваматангі.
Причина обвалу наразі невідома, як і кількість людей, котрі залишаються під завалами.
«Те, що ми тут побачили, – катастрофа. Ми не можемо допустити, щоб таке сталося», — сказав журналістам губернатор Ваматангі після того, як долучився до рятувальних робіт.
У місті Кіамбу, яке знаходиться приблизно за 20 кілометрів на північ від столиці Найробі, допомогу надають співробітники Червоного Хреста, Національної молодіжної служби, а також місцеві волонтери.
