На річці Фімі в центральній частині Демократичної Республіки Конго перекинулося судно. За даними місцевої влади, загинуло щонайменше 25 людей, десятки пасажирів досі вважаються зниклими, їхні пошуки тривають.
Невелике судно було перевантажене, що й спричинило аварію, повідомив Девід Калемба, посадовець, відповідальний за річкову навігацію в регіоні. На борту перебувало понад сто людей та значна кількість вантажу. Трагедія сталася поблизу міста Інонго на північний схід від Кіншаси. Серед загиблих кілька дітей.
Цього року це вже четверта подібна трагедія в регіоні, де річкове судноплавство має особливе значення. У травні через аварії кораблів у країні загинуло 20 осіб, у жовтні – 78.

Щонайменше 78 людей загинули внаслідок перекидання човна в озері Ківу, Конго. Причиною інциденту, імовірно, стало перевантаження судна. За деякими даними, на борту перебувало 278 пасажирів, водночас інші офіційні особи стверджують, що на їх могло бути 450 або навіть 700.
В озері Ківу на сході Демократичної Республіки Конго в четвер перекинувся човен із сотнями пасажирів, унаслідок чого потонуло щонайменше 78 людей, повідомив губернатор провінції.
Родичі ридали на березі, коли жертв клали в мішки для трупів і відвозили, повідомив Reuters очевидець. На відеозаписах, поширених в інтернеті, видно, як багатопалубне переповнене судно, перебуваючи в спокійній воді, перекинулося набік і пасажири опинилися в озері.
Невідомо, скільки людей зникло безвісти, адже регіональні чиновники повідомляють про різну кількість жертв.
Губернатор провінції Південне Ківу заявив, що загинуло 78 осіб із 278, які перебували на борту.
«Знадобиться щонайменше три дні, щоб отримати точні цифри, оскільки знайдено ще не всі тіла», – зазначив губернатор Жан Жак Пурісі.
Натомість губернатор сусідньої провінції Північне Ківу заявив, що вижило 58 людей і наразі офіційно підтверджено загибель 28 осіб. За його словами, судно перекинулося приблизно за 700 метрів від порту, причини аварії з’ясовуються.
Морські аварії зі смертельними наслідками є поширеним явищем у водах Конго, оскільки судна часто завантажуються понад норму. У місцевій лікарні один із тих, хто вижив, розповів, що коли переповнене судно перекинулося й люди навколо почали тонути, він з усіх сил намагався триматися на поверхні води, поки його не врятували конголезькі військові.
«Я бачив, як пасажири тонули, багато хто був під водою. Бачив, як тонули жінки і діти. Я і сам був на межі, але Бог допоміг мені», – сказав 51-річний Альфані Буроко Бьямунгу, перебуваючи на лікарняному ліжку.
Натовпи людей зібралися в гавані Гоми, де мав пришвартуватися човен. Дехто витирав сльози або плакав на землі, інші гнівно кричали і звинувачували владу в тому, що дозволила учасникам тривалого повстанського конфлікту перекрити дороги. Саме це, за їхніми словами, призвело до переповнення кораблів.
«Це все наслідки війни […] Влада більше не докладає зусиль, щоб очистити дорогу від ворога, щоб нею знову можна було користуватися», – кричав Мушагулуа Бьєнфей, мешканець Гоми, який втратив трьох родичів.

Представник влади Венант Ругуша Декарт повідомив, що жертв трагедії може бути 500. Є суперечлива інформація про кількість людей на борту. За деякими даними, на судні було 278 пасажирів, за іншими – 450 або навіть 700 осіб, повідомляє MTI.

Як повідомляється, човен перекинувся через сильний вітер. Речник поліції провінції Ітурі Роберт Нджалонга повідомив ЗМІ, що в результаті інциденту також було втрачено більше п’яти тонн вантажу, привезеного з Уганди, яка межує з провінцією.

Сотні людей загинули в столиці Демократичної Республіки Конго через руйнівну повінь. Річка Конго затопила Кіншасу та її околиці, сотні будинків стали непридатними для проживання.
Річка Конго досягла рекордної позначки рівня за останні шість десятиліть, затопивши столицю країни – Кіншасу. Дороги в місті стали непроїзними. Мер сусіднього міста, Кісангані,повідомив про затоплення понад 200 будинків.
Місцеві посадовці поінформували, що внаслідокповеней за останні місяці загинули більш ніж 300 людей.
Мешканці бідного району Кіншаси розповіли BBC, що вода затопила школи, лікарні та церкви. «Я все втратила», – зазначила місцева жителька. Інший мешканець повідомив, що в його будинку вода піднялася до самої стелі.
Судноплавне агентство, яке контролює водні шляхи Демократичної Республіки Конго, забило тривогу ще наприкінці грудня, попередивши, що інтенсивні опади спричинять «надзвичайні повені» навколо столиці.
Через сильні дощі в Демократичній Республіці Конго з травня минулого року тривають руйнівні повені, через стихійне лихо зникли безвісти тисячі людей.
Повені в Кіншасі є звичним явищем, але цього року рівень річки Конго піднявся на рекордну висоту – 6,26 метра. Востаннє такий показник був у 1961 році.

Аварія сталася на річці Конго.
На відео, знятому поблизу місця аварії, заступник губернатора Тейлор Нганзі заявив, що ситуація складна і що особи винних будуть встановлені та покарані.
Човен вирушив із порту Мбандака до Боломби, що знаходиться на відстані понад 300 кілометрів. За словами очевидців, він був переповнений, через що і перекинувся.
Точна кількість пасажирів наразі невідома.
Аварії на річках – поширене явище в Демократичній Республіці Конго, особливо на річці Конго. Основна причина – поганий технічний стан суден і їхня переповненість.

У Демократичній Республіці Конго за підозрою в сексуальному насильстві було затримано 8 миротворців ООН з Південної Африки, повідомляє Reuters з посиланням на представника ООН та конголезького посадовця на правах анонімності.
У відповідь на інформацію в пресі, миротворча місія ООН у Конго, MONUSCO, підтвердила відсторонення від роботи військових, але додаткових подробиць не надала, зазначивши, що триває внутрішнє розслідування.
За даними джерела в ООН, сексуальні зловживання вчинялися в публічних будинках, які функціонують поблизу баз місії.
Міністерство оборони, міністерство закордонних справ Південної Африки, а також уряд Конго не коментують ситуацію.
ООН заявила, що відповідно до принципу нульової толерантності, уже запроваджено заходи із запобігання сексуальній експлуатації та будь-яким формам сексуального насильства.
Організація може розслідувати те, що трапилося, наказати відсторонити миротворців, але для притягнення до відповідальності повинна передати підозрюваних у відання прокуратури.
Раніше подібні випадки сексуального насильства були зафіксовані в миротворчих місіях ООН у Конго, Центральноафриканській Республіці та на Гаїті, що викликало скандал. Попри те, що в останні роки ООН створила спеціальні підрозділи для боротьби з сексуальним насильством та допомоги жертвам, зловживання не припинилися.
Місію ООН задіяли під час другої громадянської війни в Конго (1998–2003), у 2010 році мандат миротворців було продовжено. У місії беруть участь близько 17 тисяч осіб, які відіграють значну роль у боротьбі з повстанцями в східній частині країни.

Повідомляється, що християнсько-анімістична група під Природа юдейська та месіанська віра до націй закликала послідовників іти до бази ООН і вимагати виходу миротворців. Місцева влада міста Гома на заборонила цю акцію протесту.
За словами лідерів секти, вони ідентифікували будинки чиновників ООН у місті та були готові їх пограбувати., Відповідальна за безпеку секти Молека Марегане сказала, що в середу солдати напали на радіостанцію і місце поклоніння у Гомі, убивши шістьох людей. Пошуки зниклих безвісти тривають, тому кількість загиблих може продовжувати зростати, повідомляє Nation Africa.
Зловмисники напали з ножами та вогнепальною зброєю на жителів табору біженців у провінції Ітурі.
За словами речника місцевої організації Червоного Хреста, кільком жертвам відрубали голови, а потім підпалили їхні тіла.
За даними місцевої влади, бійню вчинили ополченці під назвою Асоціація розвитку Конго (Codeco), але її мотиви досі невідомі.
Жан-П’єр Лакруа, заступник генерального секретаря ООН з миротворчих операцій, відвідав центральноафриканську країну минулого тижня і заявив, що розгортання «блакитних шоломів» у регіоні конфлікту стало ще більш необхідним після часткового виведення урядових військ.
Східна частина Демократичної Республіки Конго надзвичайно багата на мінеральні ресурси та вважається одним із найнебезпечніших регіонів у світі. Згідно з інформацією уряду США, у цьому районі діють приблизно 130 різних озброєних ополчень, поширені тортури та зґвалтування.
Через насильство міліції Codeco та інших озброєних груп, кількість внутрішньо переміщених осіб, які проживають у провінції Ітурі, становить 1,7 мільйона осіб.
