Megrongáltak vasárnap egy optikai szálas vezetéket, amely Lettország és Svédország között fut a Balti-tenger fenekén – közölte Evika Silina, lett kormányfő.
A tájékoztatás szerint a lett haditengerészet kiküldött egy járőrt egy hajó átvizsgálására, amely feltehetőleg a károkat okozhatta. Hozzátette, hogy két másik hajó esetében is vizsgálódnak.
A lett miniszterelnök az ügyben rendkívüli kormányülést hívott össze. Ulf Kristersson svéd miniszterelnök az X-en közölte, hogy hazája szorosan együttműködik a kérdésben Lettországgal és a NATO-val is.
Az érintett kábel a lett Ventspils települést köti össze a svédországi Gotland szigetével.
A NATO december végén fokozta balti-tengeri jelenlétét, miután a finn hatóságok szabotázs gyanúja miatt feltartóztatták az EU szerint Oroszország úgynevezett árnyékflottájához tartozó Eagle S nevű tartályhajót. A gyanú szerint a horgonyát a tengerfenéken végighúzva eltépte az Estlink 2 finn–észt villamosvezetéket, és négy másik távközlési kábelt. A hajót a finn hatóságok lefoglalták.
Tavaly és tavalyelőtt több hasonló eset is volt, amelyek esetében nyugati tisztségviselők nem zárják ki külföldi szabotázsakció lehetőségét sem.

Hét év börtönbüntetésre ítéltek Lettországban egy Oroszországnak kémkedő taxisofőrt – jelentette csütörtökön a Leta helyi hírügynökség a helyi hatóságokra hivatkozva.
A tájékoztatás szerint a férfit abban találták bűnösnek, hogy az orosz hírszerzés, illetve biztonsági szolgálatok számára érdeklődésre számot tartó információkat gyűjtött.
A vádhatóság szerint a 2023 augusztusában őrizetbe vett taxisofőr ideológiai indíttatásból cselekedett. A férfi olyan Telegram-csatornák felhívásait követte, amelyeket oroszbarát aktivisták létesítettek 2022 októberében. E felhívásokban információgyűjtésre buzdították az embereket a lett védelmi rendszerről, a NATO-államok Lettországban folytatott tevékenységeiről, valamint a balti állam területén tett intézkedésekről Ukrajna megsegítésével kapcsolatban.
A taxisofőr fotókat, illetve videofelvételeket készített a lett hadsereg különböző katonai tevékenységeiről.
Egy másik vádpont úgy szólt, hogy az internetes bejegyzéseivel etnikai csoportok ellen uszított.
A férfi tagadta, hogy kémkedett volna.

Szintetikus drogok nagy laboratóriumát fedezték fel Lettországban. A nyolc vádlott közül ötről kiderült, hogy ukrán állampolgár.
A rendőrség a múlt héten egyszerre több városban hajtott végre akciót. Néhány részlet, köztük az ukránok érintettsége azonban titokban maradt.
Az akciót a lett állami rendőrség hajtotta végre az Európai Rendőrségi Iroda (Europol) munkatársaival együtt. Használt autókat, quadokat és drónokat foglaltak le.
A rendfenntartók újságíróknak elárulták, hogy több mint egy tonna kész szintetikus kábítószert fedeztek fel legalább 400 millió euró értékben, ami az elmúlt évek rekordja. Emellett lefoglaltak kábítószer-gyártó berendezéseket és 38 ezer liter különböző, a gyártás során felhasznált felszerelést.

A Lett Állambiztonsági Szolgálat (SSB) őrizetbe vett két embert, akiket Oroszország javára elkövetett kémkedés gyanújával vádolnak.
Őrizetbe vették a korábban ismert taxisofőrt, Szerhij Szidorovot, akit az Oroszországi Föderációban is kémkedéssel vádoltak.
A fogvatartottak ellen Oroszország javára elkövetett kémkedés miatt indult büntetőeljárás május 2-án.
A nyomozás során kiderült, hogy ezek a személyek illegálisan gyűjtöttek érzékeny információkat Lettországban kémkedéssel gyanúsított személyekről, majd azokat továbbították az orosz különleges szolgálatoknak.

Erről a Delfi számolt be – írja a Jevropejszka pravda. A Lett Geológiai és Meteorológiai Központ (LVĻMC) jelentése szerint a rengéseket egy Riga melletti megfigyelőállomás rögzítette április 30-án 11:40-kor. Ez az egyetlen szeizmológiai megfigyelési állomás az országban.
A szakértők előzetes következtetései szerint a rengések mértéke 3-as szintnél kisebb volt. Az ilyen erősségű földrengések nem okoznak kárt az épületekben, és az emberek számára sem érzékelhetők.
Sokan azonban azt írták a közösségi oldalakon, hogy remegést éreztek – ajtók, ablaktáblák, polcok remegtek.

A lett ügyészség azzal vádol egy lett állampolgárt, hogy szabotázs elkövetése céljából utazott Ukrajnába – írja az Ukrinform. A vádlott, Ivan Tarabanov ügyének tárgyalását a Rigai Városi Bíróság június 7-re tűzte ki. A férfi jelenleg őrizetben van.
Az ügyészség megerősítette, hogy a férfit azzal vádolják, hogy terrorizmus céljából utazott Ukrajnába, hogy az oroszok oldalán kíséreljen meg illegálisan részt venni egy fegyveres konfliktusban.
2022 januárjában a vádlott utasítást kapott egy, a büntetőeljárásban nem azonosított személytől, „Olekszandrától” arra, hogy Ukrajna területén gyújtogatással hajtson végre szabotázst. Ezután a férfi a művelet végrehajtása céljából Ukrajna területére érkezett. Ez sérti a lett fegyveres erők nemzetközi műveletekben való részvételéről szóló törvény rendelkezéseit, amely meghatározza az állampolgárok Lettország határain kívül zajló fegyveres konfliktusban való részvételére vonatkozó jogi eljárást.
Az ügyészség a vádemeléssel kapcsolatban nem adott további információkat az újságíróknak. Az ügyet a Lett Állambiztonsági Szolgálat (VDD) vizsgálta, majd átadták az ügyészségnek.
A VDD jelenleg egy másik bűnügyben is nyomoz az ukrajnai háborúban való illegális részvétel miatt. Ezt a büntetőeljárást az után indították, hogy Oroszország 2022 februárjában megtámadta Ukrajnát. Az ügy egy olyan lett állampolgár ellen indult, aki 15 évvel ezelőtt a Nemzetbiztonsági Szolgálatnál szolgált. Felmentésének oka a szolgálattól való önkéntes távolmaradás miatti fegyelmi eljárás volt. Jelenleg nincs információ arról, hogy a lett rendfenntartóknak sikerült-e őrizetbe venni a gyanúsítottat.
A közelmúltban a VDD is megerősítette, hogy az orosz fegyveres erők oldalán további személyeknek az ukrajnai háborúban való esetleges illegális részvételével kapcsolatban folytat vizsgálatot.
Az Ukrinform jelentése szerint több lett állampolgár is harcol Ukrajna oldalán az oroszok visszaszorításában. Közülük az első áldozat a 28 éves Vitalij Szmirnovsz volt, aki 2023. október 1-jén éjjel halt meg a donyecki régióban található Liman város közelében.

Lett gazdák ezrei vonultak utcákra hétfőn az orosz gabona- és más agrártermékek európai uniós importjának betiltását követelve.
„Az EU engedélyezi az orosz +vérgabona+ importját közös piacunkra, valamint átszállítását az európai kikötőkön és pályaudvarokon” – nehezményezte Juris Lazdins, a tiltakozó akció szervezője Jelgava városában tartott egyik tüntetésen az AFP francia hírügynökségnek nyilatkozva.
„Egyik kézzel segítünk az ukránoknak, de a másikkal engedjük az agresszor országot gabonát lopni Ukrajnában és azt nagy haszonnal értékesíteni Európának. Követeljük, hogy vágják el Oroszországot ezektől a lehetőségektől, hogy ne tudja finanszírozni háborús erőfeszítéseit” – hangoztatta Lazdins.
Lettország az orosz mezőgazdasági termékek, köztük gabona és olajosmagvak jelentős importőre.
A tüntetéseket 16 városban tartották, és a szerteágazó követelések között szerepelt még a bürokratikus terhek csökkentése, illetve az általános forgalmi adó csökkentése a hazai termesztésű gyümölcsökre és bogyókra.
A tüntetők traktorain kifüggesztett transzparenseken a mezőgazdasági termelők fontosságára is felhívták a figyelmet. „Mezőgazdaság nélkül éhes, meztelen és a legrosszabb, hogy józan maradsz!” – volt olvasható az egyik humorosabb hangvételű feliraton.
A rendőrség közreműködött abban, hogy a traktorok járműoszlopai elérjék Jelgavát anélkül, hogy közlekedési fennakadásokat okoznának.
Armands Krauze mezőgazdasági miniszter az LTV helyi televíziónak nyilatkozva elmondta, hogy a kormány dolgozik a problémákon, és megértéséről biztosította a gazdákat.
A tüntetők kézzelfogható eredményeket követeltek, és bejelentették, hogy amennyiben ezek elmaradnak február 12-ig, úgy Riga felé fognak vonulni.

Az Ukrajna elleni háború kezdete óta a lettországi adóhatóság mintegy ötezer esetben lépett fel az Oroszország és Fehéroroszország ellen bevezetett szankciók megsértése miatt – közölte csütörtökön a lett közszolgálati televízióban Raimonds Zukuls, a hivatal vezetője.
Elmondása szerint büntetőeljárást 258 esetben indítottak. Tavaly 144, az előző évben pedig 114 esetben.
A jogsértéseket áruforgalmi ellenőrzések során tárták fel a keleten Oroszországgal és Fehéroroszországgal is határos uniós tagországban, amely a NATO-nak is tagja.
A lett vámhivatal vezetője elmondta, hogy Oroszország és Fehéroroszország felé többnyire elektromos készülékek és berendezések, különböző autóalkatrészek és luxuscikkek kivitelét akadályozták meg. Ellenkező irányban pedig főként faipari termékeket, tüzelőanyagot, takarmányt és fémipari termékeket foglaltak le.
Az ukrajnai háború kezdete óta az EU tizenkét, kereskedelmi korlátozásokat és egyéb intézkedéseket is magában foglaló szankciócsomagot léptetett életbe Oroszország ellen. Hasonló büntetőintézkedéseket vezettek be Oroszország közeli szövetségesével, Fehéroroszországgal szemben is.
