A rendőrök elől menekülő, migránsokkal teli furgon szenvedett balesetet a közép-horvátországi Novska közelében, ketten meghaltak, 25-en megsérültek – közölte a rendőrség szombaton.
A közlemény szerint a baleset éjjel negyed kettőkor történt. Az embercsempészet visszaszorításán, az illegális migráció megakadályozásán dolgozó rendőrök az A3-as autópálya Novska nevű fizetőkapujánál figyeltek fel a német rendszámú, szemmel láthatóan túlterhelt furgonra.
Amikor a sofőr észrevette a rendőröket, növelte a jármű sebességét.
A közlemény szerint a rendőrök biztonságos távolságból, hang- és fényjelzés nélkül követték a furgont, majd azt hét kilométerrel arrébb, Paklenica városában, egy árokba borulva találták meg.
A jármű nekiütközött egy betonhídnak, az oldalára borult, majd egy ház falának és egy villanyoszlopnak csapódott.
A sofőr és az egyik utas a helyszínen életét vesztette, a többi utast kórházba szállították – tájékoztatott a rendőrség.
Ivo Pedisic, a szikeszeki (Sisak) kórház szóvivője elmondta: török, szíriai, palesztin és iraki állampolgárokat kezelnek, közülük hárman súlyos, hárman pedig könnyebb sérüléseket szenvedtek. A többieket megfigyelés alatt tartják.

A Dominikai Köztársaság partjainál egy csónakban 14, részben bomlásnak indult holttestet találtak – írja a New York Post. A hatóságok jelenleg azon dolgoznak, hogy azonosítsák a holttesteket, és megállapítsák a halál okát és idejét. Emellett vizsgálják azt is, hogy a hajó fedélzetén talált 12 rejtélyes csomagban kábítószer található-e.
A maradványok mellett talált dokumentáció arra utal, hogy a maradványok szenegáli és mauritániai személyektől származnak.
A csónakon mobiltelefonokat és geolokációs eszközöket is felfedeztek, a holttestek mellett előkerült anyagot a dominikai kábítószer-ellenes ügynökség laborjában elemzik.
A Nyugat-Afrikából a Dominikai Köztársaságba vezető atlanti útvonal a világ egyik legveszélyesebb tengeri útja, mivel a célt tévesztő hajókat az erős áramlatok elterelhetik, és hónapokig sodródhatnak. A bajba jutott migránsok gyakran kiszáradás és alultápláltság miatt halnak meg, míg egyesek kétségbeesésükben a vízbe vetik magukat.
A közép- és dél-amerikai partoknál esetenként felbukkannak északnyugat-afrikai személyek maradványaival teli csónakok és hajók. Csak 2021-ben hét ilyen járművet találtak Brazíliánál és a Karib-térségben.

Az állami televízió beszámolt arról, hogy az incidens a bolgár határ közelében fekvő Pirot városa és a dél-szerbiai Nis közötti úton történt.

A rendőrség közleménye szerint az Evrosnál járőröző görög határőröket, valamint a Törökországból érkező migránsok Görögországba való illegális bejutását megakadályozó akció során a török oldalról ismeretlenek lőtték. Egy görög határőr súlyosan megsebesült a lövöldözésben.
Görögország az elmúlt években új migrációellenes arzenálba fektetett be, beleértve a kamerákat, radarokat és egy 40 kilométeres (25 mérföldes) acélkerítést, amely több mint 5 méter magas, hogy lefedje a Maritsa (Meriç) által átszelt 200 kilométeres határterület egy részét. A térségben a Frontex uniós határügynökség által üzemeltetett Zeppelin is működik. A török oldalról érkező migránsokkal a görög határőrök már máskor is komolyabban összetűztek.
A helyzet egyáltalán nem rozsás. A BBC korábban arról számolt be, hogy szemtanúk szerint a görög parti őrség több tucat migráns halálát okozta a Földközi-tengeren három év alatt, köztük kilenc olyan személyt, akiket szándékosan dobtak a vízbe. Ez az egyik kulcsfontosságú megállapítása volt a BBC új vizsgálatának , a műsorszolgáltató jelentése szerint több mint 40 ember halt meg „az állítások szerint, amikor kikényszerítették őket a görög felségvizekről, vagy visszavitték őket a tengerre, miután elérték a görög szigeteket”.

Albánia útvonalat jelent néhány, az EU felé tartó migráns számára, amely együttműködik az országgal, hogy lezárja a blokkba vezető utat.
Nyolc ember, köztük hét migránsnak vélt személy meghalt, miután az autó, amelyben utaztak, lesodródott egy hegyi útról a Vjosa folyóba Délkelet-Albániában.
A hatóságok szerint a sofőr nem állt meg az ellenőrző pontnál, és elhajtott. Ardian Cipa regionális rendőrfőkapitány szerint a rendőrök követték az autót, és később látták, hogy az a fővárostól, Tiranától mintegy 240 kilométerre délkeletre a folyóba csapódott.
Feltételezések szerint a sofőr helyi idő szerint hajnali 4 órakor elvesztette uralmát az autó felett, és a folyóba fordult.
„A gyanú szerint a sofőr Shkodrából származik, a többiek pedig migránsok, akik gyakran áthaladnak ezen az úton” – mondta Cipa.
A rendőrség közleménye szerint az áldozatok közül hétről azt gyanítják, hogy „harmadik országból származnak”, ezt a leírást gyakran a migránsokra utalják.
Albánia önmagában nem a migránsok elsődleges útvonala, de az arab országokból vagy Ázsiából érkezett kis csoportok használják azt, hogy tengeri úton érjék el Olaszországot vagy más szomszédos országokat szárazföldön. Az Európai Tanács szerint a régió tranzit csomópont és kulcsfontosságú folyosó az EU-ba tartó migránsok számára, különösen a Közel-Keletről, Ázsiából és Afrikából.
2019-ben Albánia lett az első olyan EU-n kívüli ország, amely a határokon átnyúló bûnözés ellen felveszi a harcot a határokon átnyúló bûnözés ellen, a határokon átnyúló ügynökség, a Frontex tisztjeivel.
Februárban az albán parlament jóváhagyta azt a megállapodást, amely szerint az ország több ezer menedékkérőt tart fogva Olaszországba.

Nemrég még első útja kapcsán került a hírekbe az Icon of the Seas, most pedig már az első mentőakción is túl van a hajó legénysége.
Egy nemrégiben végrehajtott tengeri mentőakció során a világ legnagyobb óceánjáró luxushajójaként ismert Icon of the Seas sikeresen megmentett 14, az óceánon sodródó személyt. A kubai migránsokként azonosított csoportot vasárnap fedezte fel a Royal Caribbean hajó legénysége a Miamiból Hondurasba tartó útja során.
Miután megpillantották a bajba jutott kis hajót, az Icon of the Seas legénysége azonnali mentőakciót kezdeményezett, és mind a 14 embert biztonságban a fedélzetre hozta. Az amerikai parti őrséggel összehangoltan a kimentettek orvosi ellátásban és támogatásban részesültek, erősítette meg a Royal Caribbean szóvivője.
A hajóút egyik utasa, akinek személyazonosságát nem hozták nyilvánosságra beszámolt a műveletről, megjegyezve, hogy a legénység több kört is tett a zászlóval jelzett, megfeneklett hajóhoz. A hajó kapitánya arról tájékoztatta az utasokat, hogy a kimentett csoport nyolc napja volt a tengeren.

Az Egyesült Nemzetek Szervezete kijelentette, hogy 2023 a migránsok leghalálosabb éve 2014 óta – írja a DW.
Tavaly világszerte legalább 8565 halálesetet regisztráltak a migrációs útvonalakon.
„A halálesetek száma 2023-ban tragikusan, 20%-kal nőtt 2022-hez képest, ami aláhúzza, hogy sürgősen fel kell lépni a további életveszteségek elkerülése érdekében” – áll a Nemzetközi Migrációs Szervezet (IOM) jelentésében a szervezet adataira hivatkozva.
Az IOM szerint a biztonságos, szabályozott útvonalak hiánya emberek ezreit kényszeríti arra, hogy veszélyes migrációs útvonalakat válasszanak. Különösen a Földközi-tengerről beszélünk, ahol 2023-ban legalább 3129 ember halt meg, miközben megpróbált eljutni Európába. Ez a szám a legmagasabb az útvonalon 2017 óta.
Rengeteg halálesetet regisztráltak Afrikában (1866) és Ázsiában (2138). Afrikában számos haláleset történt a Szahara-sivatagban és a Spanyolországhoz tartozó Kanári-szigetekre vezető tengeri útvonalon. A 2023-ban meghalt migránsok több mint fele vízbe fulladt. A halálesetek 9%-át közúti balesetek, 7%-át erőszak okozta.
2024 eleje óta már 512 migráns halt meg.

Több ezer, harmadik országokból származó migráns várakozik, hogy az orosz-finn határon át Finnországba jusson – közölte Mari Rantanen finn belügyminiszter keddi sajtóértekezletén.
Finnország tavaly év végén zárta le Oroszországgal közös keleti határát két hétre az érvényes dokumentumok nélkül az Európai Unióba belépni szándékozó migránsok növekvő száma miatt.
Helsinki azzal vádolja Moszkvát, hogy szándékosan szállítja a határokra tömegesen a migránsokat, amit a Kreml tagad. A finn kormány február 8-án jelentette be, hogy a határzárat további két hónappal, április 14-ig meghosszabbítják.
„Információink szerint több ezer ember várakozik a határ orosz oldalán, hogy beléphessen Finnországba. Ez veszélyt jelent a társadalomra” – mondta a finn belügyminiszter a keddi sajtóértekezleten.
A tárca hétfőn közölte, hogy gyorsított eljárás keretében készítenek elő egy törvényjavaslatot a határbiztonság megerősítésére és Moszkva azon kísérletei ellen, hogy a migrációval nyomást gyakoroljon Finnországra. A finn kormány már a jövő hónapban a parlament elé terjeszti a javaslatot.
A finn határőrség szerint a tavaly augusztus és december közötti időszakban mintegy 1300 menedékkérő lépte át a finn–orosz határt, akik többek között Jemenből, Szomáliából és Szíriából érkeztek. A finn bevándorlási hatóság januárban közölte, hogy közülük 160-at nem sikerült megtalálniuk, ők valószínűleg egy másik európai országba mentek tovább.

Több jármű összeütközött szombat este egy főútvonalon Guatemala nyugati részében, a balesetben tizenegyen meghaltak, köztük kilenc kubai állampolgár – jelentette be San Juan Bautista város ügyészi hivatala.
A baleset 120 kilométerre Guatemalavárostól történt, egy teherautó, egy kisteherautó és egy motorkerékpár ütközött össze.
Az ügyészi hivatal szerint kilencen a helyszínen meghaltak, három sérültet kórházba szállítottak, de később közülük is elhunytak ketten.
A halálos áldozatok között a kubaiak mellett két guatemalai állampolgár van. A hatóságok szerint a kubaiak az Egyesült Államokba tartó bevándorlók voltak, ők utaztak a kisteherautón. Sofőrjük guatemalai volt, akárcsak a motorral közlekedő férfi.
