A rendőrség szerint a busz Gajuri város közelében tért le az autópályáról, és eddig tisztázatlan okok miatt a folyóba zuhant.
A busz részben víz alá került, de a mentőknek sikerült az utasok többségét élve kimenteniük a roncsok közül.
Nyolc ember a helyszínen meghalt, a sérült utasokat kórházakba szállították.
Az esőzések miatt az utak csúszóssá váltak, és vélhetően ez okozta a tragédiát.

A Yeti Airlines nepáli légitársaság a fővárosból, Katmanduból az onnan 200 kilométerre fekvő Pokhara turistavárosba tartó járata leszállás közben zuhant le és gyulladt ki. A légi irányítás nem sokkal a felszállás után vesztette el a kapcsolatot a pilótákkal.
Egy, a közösségi médiában közzétett videón látható, amint a repülőgép alacsonyan repül egy lakott terület felett, majd hirtelen megpördül.
A fedélzeten 68 utas, köztük legalább 14 külföldi állampolgár (öt indiai, négy orosz, két dél-koreai, továbbá egy ausztrál, egy francia és egy argentin) és a személyzet négy tagja tartózkodott.
A mentési munkálatokban mintegy 200 nepáli katona vesz részt a Seti folyó szurdokában, a repülőtértől mindössze másfél kilométerre található baleset helyszínén. A baleset helyszínéről készült videókon sűrűn gomolygó fekete füst és égő törmelék látható.
„Arra számítunk, hogy több holttestet fogunk megtalálni” – mondta a hadsereg egyik szóvivője a Reutersnek, mondván, a repülőgép „darabokra tört”. A nyilatkozat idején még csak 40 halottat jelentettek a hatóságok, azóta viszont még több áldozatot találtak. Egyes hírforrások 64, mások 67 halottról számoltak be.
Jóllehet az utóbbi években a nepáli légi közlekedés – részben a turizmusnak köszönhetően – fellendült, a gépek karbantartása és a biztonsági előírások továbbra sem elégségesek. Az Európai Unió biztonsági aggályok miatt korábban kitiltotta légteréből a nepáli repülőgépeket.

Nepálban legalább 88-an haltak meg, köztük egy család hat tagja, aki házát elsodorta egy sárlavina.
Indiában, a himalájai Uttarakhand államban 55-en haltak meg, köztük egy család öt tagja, akit otthonukban lelt a halál egy földcsuszamláskor. A pusztítás hidakban és utakban okozott károkat, és több falut elvágott a külvilágtól. A hadsereget is mozgósították, hogy sikerüljön mielőbb kapcsolatot teremteni az elzárt térségben élő emberekkel.
Uttarakhand természeti katasztrófákért felelős illetékese, S. Murugesan elmondta, hogy az áldozatok száma tovább emelkedhet, miután több embert eltűntként tartanak nyilván. Köztük van húsz turista, aki gleccsertúrán vett részt, amikor nyoma veszett.
Nyugat-Bengál államban öten meghaltak, és csaknem négyszáz otthonban keletkeztek károk. Emellett ezreket kellett kitelepíteni a megáradt folyók közeléből – mondta el egy tisztségviselő.
A meteorológiai szolgálat vörös riasztást adott ki Nyugat-Bengálra a heves esőzések miatt. Keralában, India déli részén 42-en vesztették életüket a múlt hét óta. Az állam egyes körzeteiben ugyancsak jelentős mennyiségű csapadék várható.
Három évvel ezelőtt, 2018-ban közel ötszázan haltak meg Keralában az elmúlt évszázad legsúlyosabb áradásaiban.
A nepáli és az indiai mentési műveletekben részt vevő vöröskereszt rámutatott: a két ország lakosságát a világjárvány és az éghajlati katasztrófák egyaránt sújtják, emberek millióinak életét és megélhetését veszélyeztetve.

Hatósági források hozzátették: a buszon ülők közül sokan Nepál és India közelgő legnagyobb vallási ünnepe, az idén október 15-re eső Dashain ünnep alkalmából tartottak éppen hazafelé.

A nepáli kormány határozata miatt, miszerint 2021. május 31-ig felfüggeszti a nemzetközi repülőjáratokat, Ukrajna 107 állampolgára kénytelen Nepál területén maradni, közülük négyen koronavírus fertőzöttek, közölte Oleh Nyikolenko, a külügyminisztérium szóvivője a Glavkomnak adott kommentárjában.
A rendelkezésre álló adatok szerint 45 személyt Katmandu szállodáiban szállásoltak el, ellátásuk biztosítva van. A többi állampolgár a hegyvidéken tartózkodik. „Négy ukránnál diagnosztizálták a Covid-19-et, és megkapják a szükséges ellátást, állapotuk kielégítő” – közölte a diplomata.
Ukrajna indiai nagykövetsége közvetlenül vagy a túrákat szervező utazási társaságok képviselőin keresztül tartja a kapcsolatot honfitársaival. A közösségi hálón működő közös csoport mellett a külügyminisztérium „forró vonala” dolgozza fel a Nepálban rekedt állampolgárok vagy hozzátartozóik bejelentéseit az alábbi számon: 044 238-16-57, 044 238-15-88.
Ukrajna tiszteletbeli konzulja Katmanduban operatív konzuli segítséget nyújt az ukránoknak. A diplomaták azon dolgoznak, hogy mielőbb megoldják az ukrán állampolgárok hazatérését.
„Ugyanakkor meg kell értenünk, hogy Nepálban szigorú karantén korlátozások vannak érvényben. Jelenleg mérlegelik annak lehetőségét, hogy az ukránok távozhatnak-e más országok repatriációs járataival. A rendelkezésre álló információk szerint a a Turkish Airlines engedély iránti kérelmet nyújtott be a nepáli félnek charterjáratok lebonyolítására. A szituációt figyelemmel kísérjük. Nagyon sok álhír terjed az ukrán állampolgárok helyzetéről. Mindenkit meg akarok nyugtatni – nem hagyjuk őket magukra”, – biztosított Nyikolenko. Az ukrán fél mindemellett az indiai kormányhoz fordult, hogy adjon engedélyt állampolgáraink Indián keresztül történő hazaszállításához.
