New York rendőrfőnöke közölte, hogy a támadó két kiérkező rendőrt konyhakéssel sebesítette meg, akik ezt követően lelőtték. A rendőrök egyikét mellkasán, a másikat fején sebezte meg, sérüléseik nem súlyosak, ugyanakkor egy további embert, egy 61 éves nőt súlyos állapotban szállítottak kórházba.
A feltételezések szerint a 38 éves férfi az áldozatok rokona volt, aki a kora reggeli órákban jelent meg a lakóháznál Queens legdélebbi, Far Rockaway negyedében.
Jeffrey Maddrey rendőrfőnök helyi idő szerint reggel tartott sajtótájékoztatóján beszámolt arról, hogy az erőszakos incidensben egy 11 éves lány, egy 12 éves fiú, egy 44 éves nő, és egy 30-as éveiben járó férfi halt meg.
A tájékoztatás szerint a támadásról egy fiatal nő értesítette a rendőrséget kora reggel, aki azt mondta, hogy az unokatestvére gyilkolta meg családjának tagjait.
A gyanúsítottat a rendőrök a ház közelében találták meg, aki egy bőrönddel a kezében próbálta elhagyni a környéket. Miután a járőrök néhány kérdést feltettek, kiderült, hogy a tettesről van szó, aki ekkor húzta elő a nála lévő kést.
A négy halott egyikét a rendőrök az épület előtt találták meg, a többit a házban. A hatóság kiérkezésekor a lakóház nappali szobája lángokban állt, amit a tűzoltók viszonylag gyorsan megfékeztek, a többi áldozatra ezt követően bukkantak rá – hangzott el a bűncselekményről szóló sajtóértekezleten.
A rendőrfőnök hozzátette, hogy a tüzet is a támadó okozta, aki egy bútort gyújtott meg. A eddigi feltételezések szerint családi tragédia történt, de az eset vizsgálata még tart.

Több száz tüntetőt vett őrizetbe New York-i rendőrség a gázai övezet elleni izraeli légicsapások miatt rendezett tüntetésen, amelyet a New York-i székhelyű Jewish Voice for Peace zsidó csoport szervezett.
A rendőrség október 27-én, pénteken este legalább 200 őrizetbe vételről számolt be, ugyanakkor a New York-i Grand Central Terminalnál tartott tüntetés szervezői több mint 300 őrizetbe vételről számoltak be – írja az Al Jazeera.
A pályaudvaron hosszú sorokban álltak a megbilincselt fiatal férfiak, akiknek pólóin a Not in our name felirat állt, és akik azonnali tűzszünetre szólítottak fel. A több ezer tüntető az állomáscsarnok teljes területét elzárta, a szervezők a tüntetést az elmúlt 20 év legnagyobb New York-i polgári engedetlenségi akciójának nevezték.
Rabbik gyújtottak gyertyát a zsidó szombat alkalmából, ezzel indítva a tiltakozást. „A sábát általában a pihenés napja, de nem engedhetjük meg magunknak, hogy pihenjünk, miközben népirtást követnek el a nevünkben. A palesztinok és az izraeliek élete szorosan összefonódik, és a biztonságot mindenki számára csak igazságosság, egyenlőség és szabadság révén lehet elérni”, mondta Mei Ye rabbi a közleményben.

A Gázai övezetet uraló Hamász fegyveresei október 7-én meglepetésszerű támadást indítottak Izrael ellen, betörtek az ország déli részébe, több mint 1400 embert meggyilkoltak, további mintegy háromezret megsebesítettek, valamint mintegy 230 embert elraboltak és túszként tartanak fogva. A gázai egészségügyi hatóságok szerint az izraeli válaszcsapásokban azóta már több mint 7326 ember halt meg a Gázai övezetben, főként civilek, köztük több mint háromezer gyermek. A sebesültek száma pedig 19 ezerhez közelít.

Egy iskolabusz Long Islandről indult útnak helyi idő szerint csütörtök délután, hogy egy közeli zenei táborba vigyen tanulókat. A jármű azonban lesodródott az útról és egy 15 méter mély árokba zuhant Wawayanda város közelében.
A balesetben két ember meghalt, öt pedig súlyosan megsérült.
A BBC úgy tudja, a baleset két áldozata egy 43 és egy 77 éves nő volt, egyikük az iskola zenetanáraként dolgozott. A buszon összesen 44-en utaztak, legtöbbjük 14-15 év körüli diák volt.
A hatóságok közölték, hogy a tragédiát egy hibás gumiabroncs okozhatta.
