Amíg az állam- és kormányfők Ukrajna uniós csatlakozásáról tárgyaltak Brüsszelben, addig Gáza utcáin palesztinpárti tüntetők követeltek azonnali tűzszünetet. A demonstrálók szerint Európa szégyellheti magát, amiért nem tesz semmit. Az izraeli hadsereg azután indított katonai akciót a Hamász ellen, hogy október elején az országot brutális terrortámadás érte: rakétazáport zúdítottak Izraelre, és zsidó civilek százait gyilkolták meg.
„Békét azonnal” – skandálták a Brüsszelben rendezett palesztinpárti tüntetés résztvevői csütörtök délután, az uniós csúccsal egy időben. A belga főváros utcáin több százan gyűltek össze, hogy azonnali tűzszünetet követeljenek.
„Az az üzenetünk Európának, hogy hagyja abba a hallgatást, ne legyen a cinkosuk. Végignézik, ahogy gyerekeket gyilkolnak. Bombázzák a kórházakat és a lakóházakat, újságírókat ölnek. Meg kell állítanotok a háborút, ugyanúgy, ahogyan megpróbáljátok megállítani az ukrajnai háborút” – mondta egy tüntető.
A tiltakozók között sok palesztin is volt, ők úgy fogalmaztak, „Európa szégyellje magát azért, ahogy kezeli a konfliktust.”
„Azért vagyunk itt, hogy elítéljük az Európai Tanácsot, amely ma ülésezik. Azért jöttünk ide, hogy palesztinokként a nemzetközi közösséggel, együtt, egy népként kimondjuk: Európa, szégyelld magad! Hova lettek az értékeitek? Hol az emberségetek?” – fogalmazott egy másik tüntető.
De nem csak Brüsszelben demonstráltak a gázai tűzszünetet követelve. Az Egyesült Államokban, Philadelphiában egy helyi békepárti zsidó csoport autópályát zárt le.
A résztvevők élőláncot formáltak az úton, ezzel rövid ideig akadályozták a forgalmat. Tábláikon a „Békét most” és a „Szabad Palesztina” feliratok szerepeltek.
A blokádot végül a rendőrség szüntette meg, a járőrök több mint harminc embert letartóztattak.
Egy nappal korábban Los Angelesben is tartottak hasonló megmozdulást. Pár tucat, magát palesztinpártinak valló demonstráló zárt le egy autópályát, amelyen a délelőtti órákban nagyon sűrű a forgalom, így gyorsan több kilométeres torlódás alakult ki. A munkába tartó autósok közül többen kiszálltak járműveikből és hevesen bírálták a megmozdulás szervezőit. A lezárásnak végül egy óra után a helyszínre érkező rendőrök vetettek véget, akik 75 embert őrizetbe vettek.

Szombaton több száz fős tüntető tömeg jelent meg Joe Biden elnök Delaware állambeli otthonának közelében is palesztin zászlókkal, és tűzszünetet, valamint önálló Palesztinát követelő táblákkal. A tüntetők az elnököt „népirtással” vádolták, amiért ő és kormánya támogatja a Gázai övezetet uraló, Hamász elleni izraeli katonai akciót.
