A Telegram-csatorna szerint a nők megállították az autót, hogy elengedjék az állatot. Azonban az elefánt odament az autóhoz, betörte a szélvédőt. Az üvegdarabok eltalálták az utasokat, enyhe sérüléseket szenvedtek.
A Yala nemzeti parkban gyakran találkozhatunk elefántokkal. Általában figyelmeztetik a turistákat, hogy az állatok közelíthetnek, és édességeket kérhetnek. Ezért a gyümölcsöket előre érdemes megvásárolni.

Országos áramszünetet okozott Srí Lankán egy majomcsapat, amely bemászott egy elektromos alállomásba – írja az MTI.
„Egy majom érintkezésbe került az egyik hálózati transzformátorral, meghibásodást okozva a rendszerben” – mondta újságíróknak Kumara Dzsajakodi energiaügyi miniszter.
A Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) áramszolgáltató szerint az incidens a Nyugati Tartomány Panadura város alállomásán történt.
A kora délelőtt történt áramszünetet három órával később sem sikerült teljesen felszámolni.
Srí Lankán 2022 nyarán, a gazdasági válság idején több hónapon át volt sorozatos áramszünet. Az állomásokon nem volt elegendő benzin és dízel, a hőerőművek napi tizenhárom órára kényszerültek korlátozni az áramszolgáltatást.

Nem tudta elkerülni az ütközést a tehervonat vezetője, amikor a húsz fős elefántcsorda a síneken kelt át a srí lankai Minneriya város közelében, pénteken.

A vonatszerelvény nyolc tartálykocsiból állt, ezek összesen 400 ezer liter üzemanyagot szállítottak. Két tartály kisiklott, ezek megrepedtek, jelentős mennyiségű üzemanyag folyt ki. A vonalon fel is függesztették a közlekedést – írta a New York Post.
A vonaton a mozdonyvezetőn kívül még ketten voltak, ők nem sérültek meg.

Szombaton pedig egy addig példátlan rendőrségi razziát is végrehajtottak, amely 126 kínai, két vietnami, egy thaiföldi és egy Fülöp-szigeteki gyanúsított őrizetbevételével végződött – tette hozzá.
Kína colombói nagykövetsége az ügyről kiadott közleményében bejelentette, hogy egy állambiztonsági szakemberekből álló „munkacsoport” kiküldésével fogja segíteni a Srí Lanka-i rendőrség munkáját. A búvárok kedden két holttestet találtak, majd további tizenkettőt fedeztek fel. Ezt követően a kínai közlekedési minisztérium közölte, hogy a szakemberek csaknem 64 ezer négyzetkilométernyi területet vizsgáltak át, de nem találtak túlélőket.
Az SCMP beszámolója alapján a halászhajó azután küldött vészjelzést, hogy a Fabian ciklon hét méter magas hullámokat generált és 120 km/órát meghaladó széllökéseket hozott magával a térségbe, amelyek jelentős mértékben hátráltatták a mentési munkálatokat.

Srí Lanka legfelsőbb bírósága csütörtökön kártérítés fizetésére kötelezte Maithripala Sziriszena volt elnököt és a biztonsági szolgálatok négy egykori vezető tisztségviselőjét, mert úgymond belpolitikai csatározások miatt mulasztást követtek el, amikor nem reagáltak megfelelően az indiai hírszerzés iszlamista terrorcselekményre vonatkozó előzetes figyelmeztetésére.
A volt államfőnek saját vagyonából átszámítva 101 millió forintot kell fizetnie a 2019 húsvéti terrortámadások csaknem 270 halálos áldozata hozzátartozóinak. Az akkori rendőrfőnöknek, a védelmi államtitkárnak és a hírszerzés két tisztségviselőjének átszámítva együttesen 201 millió forintot kell fizetniük.
Húsvétvasárnap, 2019. április 21-én Colombóban és a fővárostól nem messze található Negombóban, illetve a sziget másik végében található Batticsaloában három templom és négy luxusszálloda ellen követtek el összehangolt öngyilkos merényleteket. Ezekben több mint 260-an haltak meg és mintegy ötszázan megsebesültek. Az áldozatok zöme keresztény hívő vagy turista volt, köztük negyven külföldi. A kilenc elkövető az Iszlám Állam terrorszervezettel kapcsolatban álló helyi iszlamista terrorcsoport tagja volt.
Malcolm Randzsit bíboros, Colombo érseke már évek óta a történtek hátterének teljes körű felderítését szorgalmazza. A bíboros-érsek szerint a mostani vezetés időben elhúzza a nyomozást, elkendőzve ezzel ismert politikusok és hírszerzési munkatársak esetleges felelősségét.
A merényletek előtt nem sokkal az indiai hírszerzés ugyanis pontos információkkal látta el a Srí Lanka-i vezetést a készülő terrorcselekményről, de az akkori miniszterelnök és az államfő közötti belpolitikai feszültségek miatt nem hozták meg a szükséges óvintézkedéseket.
A bíróság megállapította, hogy Sziriszena, aki akkor a védelmi miniszter és a fegyveres erők főparancsnoki tisztségét is ellátta, nem hívta össze rendszeres időközönként a nemzetbiztonsági tanács üléseit, illetve amikor megtette, azokra nem hívott meg kulcsfontosságú személyeket.
„Mindezeket a törvényszék az akkori elnök súlyos mulasztásaként értékeli” – tette hozzá a bíróság a döntés indoklásában.

Szükségállapotot rendelt el Srí Lankán a szigetország ügyvezető elnöke hétfőn, a hetek óta húzódó belpolitikai válság és tüntetések közepette.
Közleményében Ranil Vikremeszinghe a döntést a közbiztonság és a közrend védelmével, valamint az alapvető szolgáltatások biztosításának fenntartásával indokolta.
A múlt héten az előző elnök, Gotabaja Radzsapaksza elmenekült hazájából, miután tüntetők megrohamozták rezidenciáját, és rossz gazdálkodással vádolták meg, miközben Srí Lanka történelmének legsúlyosabb gazdasági válságát éli át. Radzsapaksza végül Szingapúrból küldte el lemondólevelét.
Vikremeszinghe pénteken vette át helyét, egyúttal ő lett az ország új miniszterelnöke is.
A tervek szerint a parlament szerdán választ új elnököt, a négy jelölt közül az egyik maga Vikremeszinghe, de sok tüntető máris jelezte, nem fogadják el Vikremeszinghét elnöknek, sokan ugyanis a bukott elnök, Radzsapaksza szövetségesét látják benne.
Az új államfő a 2024 novemberében lejáró ciklus végéig maradna hivatalában.
Jóllehet a tüntetések Radzsapaksza távozása után alábbhagytak, helyszíni beszámolók szerint még mindig körülbelül 500 demonstráló tartózkodik az elnöki palotában.
Az ország súlyos gazdasági és politikai válsággal küzd, amelyet az váltott ki, hogy a koronavírus-járvány miatt gyakorlatilag megszűnt a szigetország egyik fő bevételi forrását adó turizmus, az agráriumot pedig az tette tönkre, hogy a kormány a biogazdálkodás előnyben részesítésére hivatkozva megtiltotta a műtrágya importját.
