Водій пікапа, який в’їхав у торговий центр у Техасі та збив п’ятьох людей, тікав від поліції, повідомляє AP News. Інцидент стався в Кілліні у вечірні години, коли в магазині було багато людей, зазначив Браян Вашко, речник Управління громадської безпеки Техасу.
До місцевих лікарень доставили п’ятьох потерпілих, серед яких 6-річна дитина та 75-річний чоловік. Інформації про їхній стан наразі немає. Свідки в торговому центрі розповіли, що на місці події пролунало кілька пострілів.

Погоня почалася близько 17-ї години за 30 км від Кілліна після того, як поліцейським надійшло повідомлення про недобросовісного водія, що керував чорним пікапом, повідомила речниця місцевого відділу поліції Офелія Мірамонтез.
Під час погоні правопорушник, з’їхавши з дороги, опинився на стоянці торгового центру, а потім проїхав через двері магазину JCPenny і збив кількох людей. Далі поліцейські стежили за ним уже пішки. Зрештою після кількох сотень метрів та кількох пострілів, здійснених у напрямку водія, пікап зупинився. Правопорушник загинув.

У місті Одеса на заході штату Техас упав невеликий літак, інформує ABCNews.
За словами очевидців, після зльоту з одеського аеропорту він важко підіймався, а затим зіткнувся з лінією електропередач і впав у провулок. Обидві людини, які перебували на борту, загинули.
«Очевидно, пілот намагався уникнути будинків, – повідомив шериф округу Ектор Майк Гріффіс, а відтак додав: – Пожежу спричинили вибухи після падіння літака».
«Загорілися кілька будинків на колесах та господарські будівлі на присадибних ділянках. З одного з палаючих пересувних будинків довелося рятувати жінку, її доставили в лікарню», – повідомив начальник пожежної служби Одеси Джейсон Коттон. У місті з населенням близько 114 тисяч було пошкоджено транспортні засоби, огорожі та ресторан.
Федеральне управління цивільної авіації повідомляє, що авіакатастрофи зазнав бізнес-джет Cessna Citation.

У Х’юстоні та навколо міста через сильні шторми без електропостачання залишилося близько пів мільйона домогосподарств і підприємств. Кількість загиблих унаслідок негоди зросла до семи.
Влада густонаселеного південно-східного Техасу повідомила ще про трьох загиблих. Серед них, зокрема, 85-річна жінка, будинок якої загорівся через удар блискавки. Раніше мер Х’юстона повідомив про чотирьох загиблих.
Шторм накрив велике місто в четвер пізно ввечері. Швидкість ураганного вітру перевищувала 160 кілометрів на годину, внаслідок чого були вибиті вікна багатоповерхівок у центрі Х’юстона та пошкоджені фасади будівель.
Без електропостачання залишилося загалом близько мільйона споживачів. Повне відновлення може тривати кілька днів, адже були не лише обірвані лінії електропередач, але й попадали високовольтні опори.
Паралельно з відновлювальними роботами міська влада готується до хвилі спеки й відкрила для жителів, які залишилися без електропостачання, «центри охолодження», тобто кімнати з кондиціонерами.
За прогнозом метеорологів, протягом наступних днів у районі Х’юстона та по всьому південному Техасу температура повітря вдень перевищуватиме 35°С.

Штат Техас, на південному заході США, вже кілька тижнів потерпає від екстремальної погоди. Через безперервні дощі річки вийшли з берегів, вода затопила будинки і дороги. На додаток до сильних опадів, дощів західній частині штату завдають шкоди і торнадо. Близько двох сотень людей довелося евакуювати, відомо про кількох постраждалих, жертв немає.
Щонайменше 178 людей були евакуйовані з будинків і транспортних засобів в окрузі Гарріс, штат Техас, після руйнівних дощів і сильних штормів у вихідні, повідомляє CNN. Магістрат округу Харріс Ліна Ідальго повідомила, що загиблих чи серйозно травмованих немає. За її словами, не забувають і про безпеку домашніх тварин, тому на постраждалих від повені територіях вдалося врятувати понад 100 тварин.
Більшість опадів спостерігається на заході та в центральній частині Техасу. Найсильніші зливи очікуються в центральному Техасі, що потенційно може збільшити повені в регіоні. Дванадцять річок уже досягли критичного рівня.
Шторми минулого тижня – лише останні в серії критичних погодних явищ, які вразили штат із початку квітня. За останні тижні штат потерпав від десятків торнадо та граду розміром із м’яч для софтболу. Тривалі дощі у Східному Техасі підняли рівень річок до рівня, якого не було з часів руйнівного урагану Гарві у 2017 році.

Пожежа спалахнула на початку минулого тижня біля Смоукхаус-Крік і відтоді охопила площу близько 4400 квадратних кілометрів на північному заході Техасу, частково поширившись на сусідній штат Оклахома.
На вихідних умови для гасіння погіршилися через сильний вітер, високу температуру повітря та надзвичайно низьку вологість. За словами метеорологів, зазначені фактори спричиняють виникнення нових точок займання.
На сьогодні пожежа забрала життя двох людей, знищила близько 500 будівель, кілька житлових будинків та автомобілів, а також поголів’я сільськогосподарських тварин.
У середині тижня роботі пожежників тимчасово посприяли дощ і сніг, завдяки чому вдалося приборкати частину вогню. Водночас, станом на п’ятницю, вогнеборці змогли обмежити полум’я лише на 15% території, що постраждала від стихійного лиха.
Це найбільша пожежа в історії штату.

Двигун літака Delta Air Lines затягнув працівника аеропорту Техасу, внаслідок чого він загинув. Інцидент стався у п’ятницю близько 23 години в міжнародному аеропорту Сан-Антоніо, незабаром після того, як рейс 1111 прибув із Лос-Анджелеса.
За деякими даними, літак щойно приземлився і саме кермував до воріт, коли сталася трагедія. Нібито один із двигунів на той момент ще не був зупинений, хоча поки невідомо, хто відповідальний за те, що сталося, розслідування ще триває, повідомляє New York Post.
Працівник аеропорту був найнятий Unifi Aviation, компанією, яка уклала контракти з авіакомпаніями, такими як Delta, для виконання наземних функцій. Обидві компанії висловили жаль із приводу того, що трапилося, і висловили щирі співчуття родині загиблого, запевнивши у подальшій співпраці з правоохоронними органами.
Подібний інцидент стався і в новорічну ніч: у регіональному аеропорту Монтгомері, штат Алабама, загинув працівник наземної бригади, якого затягнув двигун літака American Airlines (AA).
Тоді про цю справу було мало що відомо, але пізніше з’явилася інформація, зокрема те, що Управління з охорони праці (OSHA) наклало на дочірню компанію AA, Piedmont Airlines, максимально можливий штраф (15 625 доларів).

Низка потужних штормів викликала численні торнадо в середу ввечері на півночі Техасу (США), що призвело до загибелі щонайменше трьох людей і завдало значної шкоди.
Про це повідомляє AP, передає Укрінформ.
Мер міста Матадор Пет Сміт заявив, що щонайменше троє людей загинуло і що інші могли постраждати. Він також додав, що було завдано «дуже багато пошкоджень».
Зазначається, що у Роллінг-Плейнс були масові збої в електропостачанні, у тому числі більше 700 споживачів залишилися без світла в районі Джейтон. Найзначніші збитки виявилися в Матадорі — місті з населенням близько 570 осіб за 112 кілометрів на північний схід від Лаббока в окрузі Мотлі.
