Rendkívüli állapotot hirdettek ki pénteken Új-Zéland legnagyobb városában, Aucklandben, ahol a felhőszakadás okozta áradások miatt sokakat ki kellett költöztetni otthonából, és a város repülőterét is le kellett zárni.
Wayne Brown, a város polgármestere a rendkívüli időjárás okozta jelentős károkkal, a lakosság mentésével és az áradás miatt bekövetkezett zavarokkal indokolta a rendelkezést, és hozzátette, hogy a rendkívüli helyzetben a mentőszolgálatoknak is erősítésre van szükségük.
Az aucklandi katasztrófavédelmi hivatal Twitter-bejegyzésben osztotta meg, hogy a város északi, északnyugati és nyugati részét érintik leginkább az áradások, és egyúttal arra figyelmeztettek, hogy a helyzet várhatóan tovább romlik.
Az áradás által veszélyeztetett területen élőknek azt tanácsolták: készüljenek fel arra, hogy el kell hagyniuk lakóhelyüket, ha eddig még nem kellett, és arról tájékoztatták őket, hogy Auckland nyugati részén megnyitottak egy evakuációs központot.
Az áradások miatt a főbb utak is járhatatlanok lettek, és nagy dugók alakultak ki az autópályákon, ezért a rendőrség arra kérte a lakosságot, hogy lehetőség szerint ne közlekedjen saját gépjárművel.
Az aucklandi repülőtér belföldi és nemzetközi forgalmát is leállították. A közösségi médiában közzétett képek szerint a nemzetközi terminál indulási oldala vízben áll az áradás miatt.
A szélsőséges időjárás miatt Elton John brit énekes péntekre meghirdetett koncertje is elmaradt a városban, pedig 40 ezer rajongót vártak rá.

Megkezdődött az Új-Zélandon holtan talált gyerekek ügyének tárgyalása, a gyilkossággal az anyát vádolják. Két bőröndbe rejtett holttestet talált egy család az új-zélandi Aucklandben nyáron. A nyomok alapján az 5 és 10 év közötti áldozatok anyját vádolják a gyilkosságokkal, akinek a kiadatását a hónap elején rendelték el.
Gyilkossággal vádolják azt a 42 éves nőt, akinek a gyerekeit holtan találták két bőröndbe rejtve Új-Zélandon – tájékoztat a New York Post.
A gyanúsítottat a hét elején szállították át Dél-Koreából Új-Zélandra, az előzetes meghallgatása szerdán vette kezdetét. Amennyiben bűnösnek találják, úgy életfogytiglani börtönbüntetés vár rá, legkorábban tíz év után helyezhető feltételesen szabadlábra.
Az aucklandi Manukau kerületi bíróság úgy döntött, hogy a tárgyalás végéig a vádlott és az áldozatok személyazonosságát is titokban tartja.
A szerdai meghallgatáson a vádlott öt perc után elhagyta a tárgyalót, a bírósági döntés értelmében a december 14-i tárgyalásig őrizetben kell maradnia.
Mint az már ismert, egy család két 5 és 10 év közötti gyerek maradványaira bukkant két bőröndben az új-zélandi Aucklandben augusztus 11-én. A két hasonló méretű poggyászt egy raktárban találták, amit egy árverésen vásároltak. A holttesteket megtaláló családot nem gyanúsítják, a sokkoló eset feldolgozásához szakszerű segítséget kapnak.

Néhány hete számoltunk be róla, hogy Tasmania partjainál csupán 32 delfint sikerült megmenteni a 230-ból, most pedig Új-Zélandon történt tömeges pusztulás. A helyi hatóságok szerint 477 gömbölyűfejű delfin pusztult el, miután az elmúlt napokban két új-zélandi strandon partra vetődtek.
A partra sodródott delfinek egyikét sem lehetett megmenteni, és mindegyikük vagy természetes úton pusztult el, vagy elaltatták őket − mondta Daren Grover, a bálnák mentésében segítő Project Jonah nonprofit csoport vezérigazgatója az AP hírügynökségnek.
A delfinek a Chatham-szigeteken vetődtek partra, amelyeken mintegy 600 ember él, és amelyek Új-Zéland fő szigeteitől mintegy 800 kilométerre (500 mérföldre) keletre fekszenek.
A környezetvédelmi minisztérium szerint 232 delfin pénteken a Tupuangi Beachnél, hétfőn pedig további 245 delfin a Waihere-öbölnél vetődött partra. A pusztulások két héttel azután történtek, hogy Ausztráliában mintegy 200 gömbölyűfejű delfin pusztult el, miután egy távoli tasmaniai tengerparton partra vetődtek.
„Bár ezek természetes események, mégis szomorúak és nehezek a segítők számára” − írta a környezetvédelmi minisztérium.
Grover elmondta, hogy a távoli helyszín és a cápák jelenléte miatt nem tudtak önkénteseket mozgósítani azért, hogy a delfineket visszavigyék a vízbe, ahogyan azt korábban csinálták.
„A Chatham-szigeteken annak a kockázata miatt, hogy a cápák az embereket és a delfineket is megtámadhatják, nem tudunk mentéseket végezni, ezért nem volt más megoldásunk, mint hogy elaltassuk az állatokat” − mondta Dave Lundquist, a minisztérium tengerészeti tanácsadója.

Bizarr tengeri baleset történt Új-Zéland partjainál, egy kisebb halászhajó bálnának ütközött és felborult. A baleset következtében öten vesztették életüket– közölte a Stuff című helyi hírportál.
A baleset az ország Déli-szigetének keleti partján fekvő Kaikoura város partjainál történt. Craig Mackle, Kaikoura polgármestere az AP amerikai hírügynökségnek elmondta, hogy a baleset idején a víz teljesen nyugodt volt, és a feltételezések szerint egy bálna bukkant fel a hajó alól. Hozzátette, a térségben átutazóban volt néhány ámbráscet és púpos bálna.
A 8,5 méteres hajón összesen 11-en tartózkodtak, hat embert sikerült élve kimenteni a vízből. A mentésbe helikopterek és búvárok is bekapcsolódtak, a holttesteket megtalálták. Egy szemtanú, Vanessa Chapman arról számolt be, hogy ő és egy baráti társaság a Kaikoura melletti Goose Bayből figyelte a mentési munkálatokat.
Azt látta, hogy egy felborult csónak tetején ülő ember lengette a karját. Három helikopter körözött a levegőben, majd két búvár ugrott a vízbe, hogy segítsen. A csónak tetején lévő embert kimentették, egy másikat pedig, úgy látták, kihúztak a vízből.
Az érintett hajó a Fish Kaikoura nevű helyi halászati vállalkozáshoz tartozik. A cég tulajdonosai nem kívántak nyilatkozni az ügyben. A rendőrség jelenleg vizsgálja a történteket.
„Példátlan, tragikus esemény történt. A rendőrség megpróbál teljeskörű támogatást nyújtani az érintetteknek a nehéz időszakban” – mondta Matt Boyce, Kaikoura rendőrőrmestere.
A település egyebek között azzal vonzza a turistákat, hogy a körzetben bálnákat és delfineket lehet megfigyelni. Több hajótársaság kínál olyan hajókázást, amelynek fő célja a tengeri állatok megközelítése, tanulmányozásuk megkönnyítése.

A szakértők az évszakhoz képest nem szokványos csapadékos időjárást egy keskeny vízgőzáramnak, vagy egy „légköri folyónak” tulajdonítják, amely az ország felett terül el – írja a Reuters.
A Metservice meteorológiai szolgálat előrejelzése szerint a Déli-sziget északi részén jóval több mint 300 milliméter eső esett az elmúlt 24 órában. A Déli-sziget nyugati részén és az Északi-sziget északi részén heves esőzésekre figyelmeztetnek.
A Metservice adatai szerint a Déli-szigeten fekvő Nelson városában kedd dél óta 106 milliméternyi eső esett, ami jóval meghaladja az egész augusztusban mért 80 milliméteres átlagos csapadékmennyiséget.
Új-Zéland északi szigetén, az ország legnagyobb városában, Aucklandben heves esőzés és viharos szél miatt van érvényben figyelmeztetés, egyelőre azonban minimális fennakadásokról számoltak be.
A hatóságok közlése szerint a több mint 50 ezer lakosú Nelsonban már több mint 230 otthont evakuáltak, közintézményeket és utakat is lezártak. A városi tanács honlapján arra figyelmeztet, hogy a folytatódó esőzés további földcsuszamlásokat, áradásokat és evakuálásokat okozhat.
Nelson polgármestere, Rachel Reese az új-zélandi AM televíziónak elmondta, hogy bár a város komolyabb incidensek nélkül vészelte át az éjszakát, az infrastruktúra komoly nyomás alatt volt. Elmondása szerint a sok szennyvíztúlfolyással volt a legtöbb probléma éjszaka.
A sziget nyugati partján a Buller kerületi tanács közleménye szerint 160, korábban evakuált lakos térhetett vissza az otthonába, hogy felmérje az ott keletkezett károkat. Valamint arra figyelmeztettek, hogy további esőzés jöhet.

Emberi maradványokat találtak aukción elárverezett bőröndökben Új-Zélandon. A bőröndöket egy család vásárolta meg, miután egy aucklandi aukción megnyerte egy tárolóhelyiség tartalmának tulajdonjogát.
A maradványokat akkor találták meg, amikor visszatértek az otthonunkhoz, és elkezdték kipakolni a vásáron megszerzett holmikat – írja a BBC.
Az eset még múlt hét csütörtökön történt, mikor egy aucklandi család megnyerte egy helyi raktározási cégtől az egyik raktáruk teljes tartalmát. A holmik között az NzHeraldnak nyilatkozó egyik környékbeli szerint a bőröndök mellett több gyerekjáték és babakocsi is volt.
Egy másik szomszéd a lapnak azt is elmondta, hogy az út túloldalán állt, mikor a család felnyitotta a bőröndöket, és látta, ahogy a család hirtelen pánikba esik. Több szomszéd pedig arról számolt be, hogy irtózatos bűz volt. A család nem sokkal a történtek után elhagyta a házat, amire egy közeli hozzátartozójuk vigyázott egy darabig.
A rendőrség gyilkosság gyanújával indított nyomozást, és próbálják azonosítani a maradványokat. A hírek szerint egyelőre nem tisztázott pontosan, hány ember maradványait találták meg. A rendőrség szerint a családnak vélhetően nem volt köze a gyilkossághoz.

Szombaton az ausztrál fővárosban, Canberrában mintegy 10 ezer fős tömeg gyűlt össze, hogy tiltakozzon a kötelező oltások ellen – írja a Reuters.
A tüntetések hatására le kellett mondani egy népszerű jótékonysági könyvvásárt, és a forgalom is leállt a városban. A rendőrség három embert tartóztatott le, de azt állítja, hogy a tömeg nagy része jól viselkedett. Új-Zéland fővárosában, Wellingtonban százak gyűltek össze a parlament közelében, hogy az eső ellenére folytassák az ötödik napja tartó tiltakozást.
A kanadai kamionsofőrök által inspirált tüntetők is több utcát lezártak járműveikkel, ám a 90 százalék fölötti átoltottsággal rendelkező országokban, ahol a lakosság túlnyomó többsége nem csinál gondot a negyed órát igénybe vevő procedúrából, a demonstrációk relatíve kicsik maradtak, noha időnként erőszakba torkolltak.
Az ausztrál miniszterelnök, Scott Morrison elmondta, hogy természetesen a tüntetők joga adott a tiltakozásra, ám arra kérte őket, ezt tegyék békésen és a tisztelet másoknak megadva. Hozzátette, hogy az oltási kötelezettséget a tagállamok és egyéb helyi hatóságok várják el, nem a szövetségi kormány, igaz az idősotthonokban és más, az egészségügy magas kockázatú területein dolgozóktól szövetségi szinten is elvárják az oltott státuszt. A legtöbb helyi hatóság azonban ennél szélesebb elvárásokat támaszt és az oltatlanokat kitiltotta az éttermekből, a koncertekről és egyéb nyilvános helyszínekről. Az ellenzéket vezető Anthony Albanese szerint sem fognak széleskörű támogatottságot nyerni a tüntetők, akiket felszólított, hogy menjenek haza.
Új-Zélandon, ahol a csütörtöki demonstráción a rendőrség több mint 100 embert letartóztatott, szombaton nem vettek őrizetbe újabb tüntetőket, miközben az 5 milliós országban szombaton a járvány kezdete óta rekordnak számító 454 fertőzöttet találtak.
Az országban a járvány kezdete óta mindössze 19 ezer embernél diagnosztizálták a koronavírust és 54-en haltak meg, és a lakosság 94 százaléka túl van a vakcinán.
A turisták előtt a határok megnyitását ebben a hónapban tervező Ausztráliában is a 16 éven felettiek 94 százaléka vette fel az oltást, de az omikron továbbra is terjed az országban és szombaton 65-en életüket vesztették a covid következtében.
