У південно-східній частині Африки жертвами тропічного циклону „Фредді” стали в трьох країнах понад 500 людей.
Про це 20 березня повідомило Reuters.
Агентство зазначає, що спричинені циклоном шторми вирують у регіоні вже місяць, найбільше від нього постраждали Малаві, Мозамбік і Мадагаскар.
Тільки в Малаві станом на вечір 20 березня зареєстрували 499 жертв „Фредді”, зниклими безвісти вважають 427 осіб, повідомляє 21 березня „Сіньхуа” з посиланням на місцеву владу.
Кількість постраждалих від циклону перевищує 1300 осіб.
У зв’язку зі стихійним лихом свої будинки змушено покинули понад 508 тис. жителів.
The North Africa Post пише, що внаслідок шторму, викликаного циклоном, було затоплено тисячі гектарів сільськогосподарських угідь, у кількох районах Малаві сталися зсуви ґрунту.

У Центральноафриканській Республіці повстанці здійснили атаку на золотодобувну шахту, яка експлуатується Китаєм, і вбили 9 громадян цієї країни та поранили ще двох, повідомляє місцева влада.
Напад стався через кілька днів після того, як озброєні люди викрали трьох громадян КНР біля кордону з Камеруном. Через цю подію президент республіки Фостен Арчандж Туадера вирушив до Китаю, щоб заспокоїти інвесторів.
Напад на золотий рудник «Чімболо» (Chimbolo), який почав працювати кілька днів тому, стався рано-вранці. Озброєні люди швидко здолали охорону й відкрили вогонь, повідомив Абель Матіпата, мер сусіднього поселення Бамбарі.
Наразі жодна організація не взяла на себе відповідальність за напад. Водночас припускають, що атаку здійснили повстанці Патріотичної асоціації, яку пов’язують із президентом Франсуа Бозізе.
У Центральноафриканській Республіці наприкінці 2012 року члени ополчення Séléka з північно-східного регіону країни, населеного переважно мусульманами, зайняли Бангі та скинули президента-християнина Франсуа Бозізе. Це спровокувало в країні громадянську війну.
Проти Séléka було сформовано християнське правоохоронне об’єднання під назвою Аnti-Balaka, котре, однак, як і Séléka, згодом розпалося на незліченні збройні групи.
Незважаючи на історичну мирну угоду, підписану 2019 року, більша частина території країни, багатої на золото й алмази, досі контролюється збройними формуваннями. Це перешкоджає видобутку мінеральних ресурсів. У 2020 році двоє китайців загинули під час бунту місцевих жителів проти роботи китайської шахти в Соссо Накомбо. А 2018-го розгнівані мешканці вбили трьох китайців після того, як унаслідок кораблетрощі загинув місцевий лідер, що супроводжував до шахти китайських працівників. Незважаючи на проблеми з безпекою, у країні продовжують діяти кілька компаній КНР.

Кількість жертв тропічного шторму «Фредді» на півдні Африки перевищила 400 осіб. Циклон зародився біля північного узбережжя Австралії і 21 лютого досяг Мадагаскару, а через кілька днів вдарив по Мозамбіку та Зімбабве.
Президент Малаві Лазарус Чаквера, який відвідав зону стихійного лиха, у четвер заявив, що кількість загиблих у країні зросла більш ніж удвічі: із 225 напередодні до 326, а тих, хто залишився без даху над головою, – до 183 159 осіб.
Глава держави в четвер відвідав Лікарню королеви Єлизавети й помолився разом із жертвами стихії. За останніми даними, унаслідок буревію в Малаві постраждали щонайменше 700 осіб.
Шторм, який з кінця лютого вже двічі вирував у регіоні, забрав життя 73 людей у Мозамбіку та 17 – на Мадагаскарі.
Циклон зародився біля північного узбережжя Австралії і 21 лютого досяг Мадагаскару, а через кілька днів Мозамбіку та Зімбабве. Сильні дощі спричинили повені в обох країнах.
Потім «Фредді» зробив петлю біля узбережжя й, увібравши велику кількість пари над теплими водами, повернувся набагато сильнішим, аби ще раз ударити по Мадагаскару, а в суботу знову досягнув Мозамбіку.
До четверга шторм розвіявся, але найближчими днями в деяких районах Малаві очікуються сильні дощі, які можуть призвести до повеней, ідеться в заяві міністерства природних ресурсів та зміни клімату країни. У суботу шторм удруге вдарив по Мозамбіку, деякі села були повністю відрізані від зовнішнього світу.
Для пошуку й порятунку людей влада мобілізувала човни та інші засоби. Багато сіл опинилися під водою, повідомив Пауло Томас, прессекретар мозамбіцького управління з ліквідації наслідків стихійних лих.
В останні роки «Фредді» є одним з найбільш тривалих і руйнівних тропічних штормів на півдні Африки.

Президент ПАР Сиріл Рамафоса оголосив надзвичайний стан через багатомісячну енергетичну кризу.
Вже кілька місяців поспіль домогосподарства та підприємства в 60-мільйонній країні мають доступ до електроенергії лише в певний час доби, причому з початку року вимикання електроенергії в багатьох випадках тривають до 12 годин на добу.
У своїй щорічній промові до парламенту Сиріл Рамафоса заявив, що оголошення надзвичайного стану було необхідним для того, щоб забезпечити вжиття відповідних заходів для подолання кризи. Він також наголосив на необхідності запобігти перетворенню енергетичної кризи на соціальну. Протести проти економічних труднощів у країні вже зростають.
Оприлюднення спеціального правового порядку, серед іншого, дозволить уряду вивільнити фінансові ресурси для подолання кризи. Пан Рамафоса зазначив, що сектори, на які впливають проблеми з постачанням продовольства, отримають додаткові кошти одними з перших.
А щодо лікарень і водоочисних станцій, то там докладаються зусилля, щоб вони взагалі не постраждали від вимкнень електроенергії. Також буде призначено нового міністра енергетики, – заявив глава держави.

Група Вагнера зазнала втрат у Центральноафриканській Республіці після відновлення боїв між урядом, який підтримують російські найманці, та повстанцями, повідомляє The Guardian.
ПВК Вагнера намагається контролювати також низку копалень золота й коштовних каменів у Центральноафриканській Республіці та Судані. Частково з цих доходів фінансуються групи, які воюють в Україні.
Як повідомляє The Guardian, унаслідок боїв, що поновилися два тижні тому, загинули десятки людей. Серед них і найманці групи Вагнера, але точна кількість втрат невідома.
«Ми вдарили по них, вони потрапили в нашу пастку […] ми втратили двох людей, було також багато поранених, але ми перемогли їх і захопили чимало військових вантажівок», – повідомив один з лідерів повстанців (Коаліція патріотів за зміни) Ахмаду Алі в телефонному інтерв’ю.
За даними британської газети, у боях могли загинуло понад десять російських найманців, але точно відомо щонайменше про сімох жертв. Група Вагнера не зазнавала таких втрат в Африці з 2019 року, коли зіткнулася з ісламістськими повстанцями в Мозамбіку.

Протягом минулих місяців сталося кілька нападів акул на людей, останній такий випадок, як ми повідомляли, трапився у водах біля узбережжя Багамських островів, тепер жертвою великої білої акули стала жінка, яка плавала в бухті Плеттенберг у Південній Африці.
Місцеві звернули увагу на крики жінки, на яку напала велика біла акула, коли вона плавала в морі на Центральному пляжі в бухті Плеттенберг, Південна Африка.
39-річна жінка запливла трохи подалі від своїх друзів, з якими відпочивала, коли раптово з’явилася акула, яка пошматувала її. Свідки негайно викликали рятувальників, незабаром пляжникам та серферам криками вдалося відігнати акулу, повідомляє The Mirror.
Лікарям рятувального човна не вдалося врятувати життя жінки, оскільки вони прибули на місце події надто пізно. Місцева влада закрила пляж і розвісила таблички, які попереджають людей не заходити у воду. За даними місцевих жителів, жінка відпочивала в цьому районі. За останні одинадцять років вона виявилася третьою людиною, яка стала жертвою нападу акули в бухті Плеттенберг.
«Небо було трохи затягнуте хмарами, але світило сонце, і чимало людей вранці плавало у воді, оскільки вона була доволі теплою. Я почув крики і побачив людей, які вибігали з води. Я відразу подумав, що це акула, але був досить далеко, а потім, коли з’явився рятувальний човен, відразу зрозумів, що сталося щось жахливе», – розповів один зі свідків події.

На одній із трас у Південній Африці вантажівка зіткнулася зі шкільним автобусом. У результаті лобового зіткнення загинуло дев’ятнадцять дітей і двоє дорослих.
Водій вантажівки намагався обігнати іний вантажний автомобіль, коли врізався в автобус, повідомляє New York Post із посиланням на місцевий телеканал News 24.
Проти водія висунули звинувачення в ненавмисному вбивстві та неуважності під час кермування. За даними телеканалу, чоловік утік із місця події, але пізніше здався поліції.
Усі загиблі діти – віком від 5 до 12 років. Разом із ними в аварії загинули водій автобуса та дорослий пасажир. Інцидент стався в п’ятницю вдень за місцевим часом, автобус віз дітей зі школи додому.
На початку серпня серйозна автобусна аварія сталася і в Хорватії, в результаті якої загинуло дванадцять людей, понад 30 отримало травми. Автобус на польських номерах із паломниками з’їхав із дороги і розбився поблизу Вараждина на північному заході Хорватії.
