A rendőrségi vizsgálat szerint kongói és nigériai menedékkérők konfliktusa torkollott verekedésbe, miután kövekkel és más tárgyakkal dobálták egymást, majd tűz ütött ki a táborban.
A 915 ezer lakosú Ciprusi Köztársaság az Európai Unió azon tagállama, amelyben lakosságarányosan a legtöbb, mintegy öt százalék a menekültstátusra váró migránsok száma.
A legtöbben közülük Kongóból, Nigériából, illetve Szíriából érkeztek. A szóban forgó tábor hivatalosan 800 személyes, de túlzsúfolt, és lakóinak száma jelenleg is legalább 1600 fő. A területén korábban is voltak már tűzesetek.
A tűz eloltása után néhány órával helyreállt a nyugalom a táborban, de a rendőrség ennek ellenére megerősítette a környék biztosítását. Cipruson tavaly 13 325-en adtak be menekültkérelmet. Idén január és július között már ennél is több, 13 818 menedékkérőt regisztráltak.
Ugyanezen idő alatt 4019 migráns menedékkérelmét elutasították, nekik önként vagy hivatalos kitoloncolási eljárás keretében kellet elhagyniuk a szigetországot.

Az európai földrengésfigyelő központ szerint a 6,5-ös erősségű földmozgás fészke a tenger alatt volt, 120 kilométerre északnyugati irányban Limassoltól. Károkról és áldozatokról egyelőre nincs hír.
A föld a hajnali órákban mozdult meg, és a rengést Törökországban, Izraelben, Egyiptomban, továbbá a Görögországhoz tartozó Krétán és Rodoszon is érezték.
A ciprusi közszolgálati televízió tudósítása szerint több ezren az utcákra menekültek, és ott töltötték az éjszakát.

Konvoj és a migrációs rendőrség munkatársai kíséretében szállították az embercsempészettel gyanúsított 31 éves zsitomiri férfit a boriszpili repülőtérről a rivne-i megyei rendőrségre.
Ukrajna Büntető Törvénykönyve 149. cikkelye 2. része alapján a 2020 februárjában indított büntetőeljárásban lefolytatott előzetes nyomozás keretein belül a nyomozói főosztály nyomozói és a rivnei megyei migrációs rendőrség alkalmazottai számos operatív és nyomozati intézkedést hajtottak végre, amelyek célja egy zsitomiri lakos bűnözői tevékenységének felfedése.
A férfi, előzetes összeesküvés által, illegális jövedelemszerzés céljából két rivnei lakost toborzott, hogy külföldön, egy európai országban szexuális kizsákmányolásnak legyenek kitéve. Olyan nőket keresett, akik nehéz személyes, családi és egyéb körülmények egybeesése okán kiszolgáltatott helyzetbe kerültek, és vállalták, hogy külföldre utazzanak munkavállalás céljából.
A nyomozók elegendő bizonyítékot gyűjtöttek össze, a gyanúsított azonban bujkált a nyomozói hatóságok elől. Először országos, majd nemzetközi körözést adtak ki ellene. A rendőrök kiderítették, hogy a 31 éves férfi Dániában telepedett le élettársával.
A bűnöző leleplezése a rivnei migrációs rendőrség munkatársai, nyomozók és a ciprusi Larnaca nemzetközi rendőrség alkalmazottai együttműködésének köszönhetően sikerült, ahová a férfi nyaralni érkezett.
A korlátozó intézkedés módjának meghatározása még folyamatban van. A BTK erre vonatkozó cikkelye háromtól nyolc évig terjedő szabadságvesztést ír elő.

Erdőtűz áldozata lett négy külföldi – feltehetőleg egyiptomi – mezőgazdasági munkás Cipruson – közölte a szigetország belügyminisztériuma vasárnap.
Az erdőtűz másfél napja pusztít két fronton Limassol kikötővárostól északkeletre, a Tróodosz-hegység déli oldalán. Több száz tűzoltó küzd a megfékezésével, és ebben 11 repülőgép is segíti őket, amelyeket Izrael és Görögország küldött a segítségükre, de Olaszország is küld még tűzoltó repülőgépet.
A környéken tíz falu lakosait evakuálni kellett szombat este. Vasárnapra 50 négyzetkilométernyi erdő és mezőgazdasági termés pusztult el a tűzoltók becslése szerint. A mezőgazdasági munkások holttestét az egyik falu közelében találták meg.
A tűz okát egyelőre nem tudják, de nagy a szárazság a szigetországban. A ciprusi kormány szerint ez az ország történetének legsúlyosabb tűzvésze.

A ciprusi letelepedési kötvények az elmúlt években közkedveltek voltak az oroszok, az ukránok, a kínaiak és a kambodzsaiak körében.
Ciprus több ezer nem uniós állampolgárnak adott illegálisan ciprusi állampolgárságot 2007 és 2020 között – mondta el Müron Nikolatosz, az illetékes nyomozóbizottság elnöke hétfőn a szigetország fővárosában, Nicosiában.
A botrányban politikusok, jogászok, egyházi személyek és tisztségviselők érintettek. Az átvizsgált 6779 eset 53 százaléka, összesen 3609 ember jutott ciprusi állampolgársághoz illegálisan. A helyi igazságügy igyekszik tisztázni, pontosan kikről van szó. Az Európai Unió által is szorgalmazott nyomozás körülbelül kilenc hónapig tartott.
Az aranyútlevél-, illetve aranyvízum-programok keretében egyes tagországok állampolgárságot vagy letelepedési engedélyt kínálnak külföldieknek pénzért vagy befektetésekért cserébe.
Az aranyútlevél-programot 2013-ban vezették be Cipruson, hogy enyhítsék a 2008-as pénzügyi válság negatív hatásait. A ciprusi állampolgárságért cserébe legalább 2,5 millió eurót kellett befektetni az országban. Nikosz Anasztasziadisz ciprusi elnök szerint összesen 9,7 milliárd euró jött össze a befektetésekből.
Az aranyútlevelek kiadása önmagában nem illegális. Azonban az al-Dzsazíra pánarab hírtelevízió egy tavalyi dokumentumfilmje számos visszásságra derített fényt a ciprusi programmal kapcsolatban. A filmben beépített újságírók egy képzeletbeli, elítélt kínai befektető közvetítőiként léptek fel, és titokban filmre vették, ahogy egy magas rangú állami tisztségviselő, egy képviselő és egy jogász segíti állampolgársághoz jutni az ügyfelet. A ciprusi jogszabályok szerint nem juthat letelepedési kötvényhez az, akinek neve szerepel a bűnügyi nyilvántartásban.
A Reuters hírügynökség 2019 októberében beszámolt róla, hogy Hun Sen kambodzsai miniszterelnök bizalmasai és családtagjai is ciprusi útlevélhez jutottak. Az al-Dzsazíra 2020 augusztusában arról tájékoztatott, hogy legalább 60 ember jelenthet biztonsági kockázatot, akik 2017 és 2019 között nyertek állampolgárságot Cipruson. A ciprusi letelepedési kötvények az elmúlt években közkedveltek voltak az oroszok, az ukránok, a kínaiak és a kambodzsaiak körében.
A ciprusi vezetés 2020 novemberében felfüggesztette a programot, miután az EU többször felhívta Nicosia figyelmét, hogy az útlevélprogram növelte a korrupciót az adócsalást és a pénzmosási tevékenységeket a szigetországban.
Az Európai Bizottság tavaly közölte: kötelezettségszegési eljárást indít Ciprus és Málta ellen az aranyútlevelekkel történő kereskedés miatt. A bizottság szerint az ilyesfajta programok az EU egészére hatással vannak, mert a dokumentumok megvásárlója automatikusan uniós állampolgár lesz, és élvezi az ezzel járó összes társadalmi és politikai jogot. A testület szerint, az EU-s állampolgárság befektetés útján történő megszerzése- az érintett tagállammal való tényleges kapcsolat nélkül – aláássa az uniós állampolgárság lényegét.

Április 26-tól május 9-ig lockdown bevezetésére kerül sor Cipruson. A kormány karantén korlátozásokat vezet be a koronavírus terjedésének visszaszorítása érdekében, mivel hirtelen megnőtt a betegek száma, számolt be a Cyprus Mail.
A lockdown idején 21.00 és 05.00 óra között kijárási tilalom lesz érvényben. Kivételt képeznek az orvosok és a létfontosságú ágazatok alkalmazottai. A bevásárlóközpontok, iskolák, tornatermek, élelmiszerboltok és szórakozóhelyek bezárnak. Bárok és éttermek kizárólag házhoz szállítást vállalhatnak.
A köztisztviselők minimum 20%-a távmunkára tér át.
A tömegrendezvényeket csak negatív PCR-teszttel, oltási igazolással vagy tanúsítvánnyal arról, hogy az elmúlt 3 hónapban már átesett a koronavírus fertőzésen, rendelkezők látogathatják.
A korlátozások csak húsvét vasárnapján nem lesznek hatályosak. A templomok a hívők jelenléte nélkül működnek.
Emlékeztetőül, április 1-je óta Ciprus nyitottá vált az ukrán turisták előtt.

Annak ellenére, hogy januárban ígéretet tettek az ügy kapcsán, március 1-től Ciprus mégsem nyitotta meg határait az ukrán turisták előtt. A hírt a Jevropejszka pravda közölte.
Március 1-től Ciprus négy kategóriába (zöld, narancs, piros és szürke) sorolta az országokat. A vonatkozó információkat a Cyprus Flight Pass speciális kormányzati portálon tették közzé. Azok a személyek, akik március 31-ig érkeznek a „zöld” országokból Ciprus területére, leszállást követően le kell adjanak egy PCR-tesztet, melynek költségeit a ciprusi kormány állja.
A narancssárga és vörös övezetből utazók az érkezés előtt 72 órával és az érkezést követően is kell teszteljenek, azonban már önköltségen (30–32 euró).
Ukrajna jelenleg azonban a szürke besorolásban van, ezen országok állampolgárai csak a ciprusi kormány speciális engedélyével léphetnek be Ciprus területére.

Az Európai Unióban életbe lépett a sörétes vadászat mocsári tilalma, ám ennek a gyakorlatnak a tiltását a ciprusi görög környezetvédők helyben is sürgetik Larnaca-sóstó és mocsárvidéke déli részén.
Az ott telelő flamingók ugyanis a kavicsokkal együtt lenyelik a lehulló sörétet, és tucatszámra pusztulnak el ólommérgezésben. A tórendszer északi részén már majdnem 20 éve tilos a sörétes vadászat, és a vadászok azt mondják, hogy nem ők tehetnek a flamingók pusztulásáról a déli partvidéken sem.
A BirdLife ciprusi szervezetének vezetője, Martin Hellicar kitart amellett, hogy az ólommérgezés a vadászatra vezethető vissza. Ez ugyanis az egyetlen része a Larnaca-sóstórendszernek, ahol lehet vadászni. „A mocsárban nem, de a tavak környékén igen” – teszi hozzá.
Az állatorvosok bizonyítékát is adják ennek, nagyon sok sörétet találnak az elpusztult flamingók emésztőrendszerében. Az Afrika felől csapatostul érkező madarak márciusig maradnak Cipruson, akkor indulnak tovább az európai kontinens felé. A szigeten akár 15 ezer flamingó is megfordulhat évente.
A helyi vadászszövetség főtitkár-helyettese, Alekszandrosz Loizidész nem nagyon hiszi, hogy miattuk pusztulnak a flamingók. Csak egy 200 méter széles sávban vadászhatnak az uniós szabályozás értelmében, a gyakorlatban ez napi 4-5 kacsavadászt jelent. És azon a környéken nem pusztulnak a flamingók.

A ciprusi vadvédelmi szolgálat tavaly év elején csaknem száz elpusztult flamingót jelentett, és az elrendelt vizsgálat megállapította, hogy a vadászpuskákból származó sörét okozta náluk az ólommérgezést.
A szolgálat vezetője, Pantelisz Hadzsijerosz azt magyarázta, hogy mint az az európai országokban és világszerte is általános, Cipruson is tiltják a sörétes vadászatot a sósvízű tavak környékén.
Független szakértők szerint valahol félúton lehet az igazság: a flamingók tavalyi pusztulását valószínűleg az okozta, hogy bár a hatóságok megpróbálták megtisztítani a tavat a sörétektől, miután megtiltották ott a vadászatot, a nagy viharok felkavarták az iszapot, és felszínre hozták a leülepedett söréteket.
