A finnországi Rautjärviben tűz ütött ki egy történelmi templomban, ahol mintegy harminc hívő tartózkodott az eset idején. Sajtóértesülések szerint a templom ajtaját kötelekkel kötötték át, megakadályozva a bent lévők kijutását.
A tűz reggel 8:30-kor tört ki a karácsonyi istentisztelet alatt a finnországi Rautjärvi történelmi fatemplomában. Körülbelül harminc ember volt bent, köztük egy pap. Amint észrevették a tüzet, a misét levezető atya felszólította a híveket, hogy meneküljenek a templomból. A pap elmondása szerint csak azután hagyta el a templomot, hogy meggyőződött arról, hogy senki más nincs bent.
Az Ilta-Sanomt portálnak adott interjújában Kari Luumno, a volt plébános, aki először vette észre a tüzet, arról számolt be, hogy a templom ajtaja kívülről kötéllel volt bekötve. Mint hozzátette, a köteleket úgy kötötték meg, hogy az ajtókat szerencsére még ki lehetett nyitni.
A templom mellett élő Linda Vilen-Weyalainen a helyi médiának elmondta, hogy az udvarról látta az égő templomot.
„Nem hiszem, hogy bármi is maradna belőle” – fogalmazott. Véleményét a tűzoltóság jelentése is alátámasztotta, ugyanis tájékoztatásuk szerint az épület teljesen megsemmisült a tűzben. Az előzetes megállapítások szerint a tüzet szándékos gyújtogatás okozhatta, ugyanis a helyi média szerint a templomban nem volt olyan gyertya vagy melegítőszerkezet, amely hozzájárulhatott volna a tűz kialakulásához.
A rendőrség jelenleg is vizsgálja az esetet, amely összefüggésben állhat egy másik tűzesettel. A helyi egyenruhások ott ugyanis találtak egy holttestet a templomtól harminc kilométerre lévő házban, a leégett területen – írja a Polsat News.

A finn fegyveres erők vezetője, Timo Kivinen tábornok szerint a NATO tagságra pályázó ország kész harcba szállni Oroszországgal, amennyiben Moszkva támadást indít – írta meg a The Guardian.
A katonai vezető elmondta, hogy Finnország már évtizedek óta készül egy orosz támadásra, és ha kell, akkor kemény ellenállást fog tanúsítani.
„Kemény dió leszünk, az biztos”– mondta a tábornok. Az északi ország az elmúlt időszakban jelentős fegyver arzenált halmozott fel. Timo Kivinen szerint ennek ellenére a háborút nem a fegyverek, hanem az emberek nyerik meg, így a kulcs, hogy a finnek motiváltak legyenek a harcra.
„A legfontosabb védelmi vonal az ember fülei között van. Ezt az ukrajnai háború is bizonyítja jelenleg”.
Finnország az 1940-es években két háborút is megvívott keleti szomszédjával, akivel egy 1300 kilométeres határszakaszon osztozik. A második világháború után a finnek semlegességet hirdettek, mivel tartottak tőle, hogy a NATO-hoz való közeledéssel ismét agresszióra ösztönöznék az oroszokat. Miután február 24-én Moszkva offenzívát indított Ukrajna ellen a finnek rájöttek, hogy a semlegesség már nem jelent biztonságot, így benyújtották csatlakozási kérelmüket az Szak-atlanti Szerződés Szervezetéhez.
„Szisztematikusan fejlesztettük a katonai védelmünket azok alapján, amit Ukrajnában láttunk. A tűzerő, a páncélos erők és a légierő masszív felhasználására készülünk. Ukrajna nehéz falat volt és mi is azok leszünk”– mondta Kivinen.
A 5,5 millió lakosú Finnország katonai állománya 280 ezer fő és emellett 870 ezer embert képeznek ki tartalékosnak.
Finnországban a hidegháború után nem törölték el a katonai sorozást, mint a nyugati országot többségében. Ők rendelkeznek Európa egyik legerősebb tüzérségi fegyverzetével és 370 kilométeres hatótávolságú cirkálórakétáik is vannak. A GDP-je 2 százalékát fordítja védelmi beruházásokra, ami magasabb, mint a legtöbb NATO-tagország ráfordítása. Négy új hadihajót és 64 F-35-ös vadászgépet is rendeltek a Lockheed Martintól, valamint legalább kétezer drón megrendelését és saját, nagy magasságban lévő légvédelmi ütegek telepítését is tervezik. Ezzel együtt sorompókkal zárná le az Oroszországgal közös határátkelőket.
Az egyébként is népes hadserege mellett a védelmi minisztérium május 18-i közvéleménykutatásából kiderült, hogy a lakosság 82 százaléka hajlandó lenne részt venni a honvédelemben, ha az országot támadás érné.
Kivinen mindezek ellenére jó döntésnek tartja, hogy országa csatlakozna a NATO-hoz. Szerinte a belépéssel Finnország növelni tudná a korai előre jelző képességét azáltal, hogy része lehetne a szövetség közös légtérellenőrzésének. Ennek már csak Törökország szabhat gátat, aki jelezte, hogy vétózni fogja a finnek és a svédek csatlakozását a szervezethez. A két skandináv ország tárgyalásokat folytat Ankarával, hogy megoldják a nézeteltéréseiket.

Minden vádpont alól felmentette szerdán a finn bíróság Paivi Rasanen volt finn belügyminisztert, aki a Twitteren bibliai idézeteket osztott meg, amelyek a vád szerint kisebbség elleni gyűlöletkeltésre voltak alkalmasak – számolt be csütörtökön az MTI a Catholic News Agency című katolikus hírügynökségre hivatkozva.
Huszonnyolc oldalas határozatában a bíróság kimondta: „nem a bíróság dolga a bibliát magyarázni”. Hangsúlyozta a szólásszabadság jogát és leszögezte egyebek között, hogy a megvádolt politikus csakis „a család fogalmát, valamint a férfi és a nő közötti házasságot akarta megvédeni”. Ha ezt bárki sértőnek találja, „nyomós társadalmi indok kell ahhoz, hogy egy személy szólásszabadságát korlátozzák” – fogalmazott a határozat.
Az eljárás költségeit – több, mint 60 ezer eurót a finn állam köteles kifizetni.
Rasanen az ítélethirdetés után „mély megkönnyebbülésének” adott hangot, s kifejezte reményét, hogy a verdikt után másnak nem kell keresztülmennie hasonló eljáráson.
Az államügyészségnek hét napja van fellebbezés benyújtására.
A hívő keresztény Rasanen ellen 2020-ban emeltek vádat, a közlemény szerint a 62 éves volt belügyminiszter a bibliai idézeteivel „megsértette a meleg közösség tagjainak méltóságát”. Rasanen a maga részéről azzal érvelt, hogy ő csupán a Bibliából vett idézetet osztott meg a Twitteren, a pert pedig „a vallásszabadság próbájának” nevezte.
A volt politikus (aki 2004-től 2015-ig a kereszténydemokrata párt elnöke is volt) a finn lutheránus egyház aktív tagja, és 2019-ben vonta kérdőre egyházát azzal a támogatással kapcsolatban, amelyet az egyik LGBT-rendezvénynek nyújtott, s mindezt bibliai idézettel támasztotta alá.
Később hozzáfűzte: bejegyzését nem a homoszexuális közösség elleni támadásnak szánta, hanem az egyházközösség bírálatának.
A Nemzetközi Lutheránus Tanács – még 2020-ban kiadott – közleményében „felháborítónak” minősítette a Rasanen elleni vádemelést.
A politikus ügyében több amerikai szenátor is felszólalt. Aggodalmukat fejezték ki a per miatt, hangsúlyozva, hogy amennyiben Rasanent bűnösnek találják, hasonló ítélet várhat muszlimokra és zsidókra is, ha hangot mernek adni vallási meggyőződésüknek.

A per hétfőn kezdődik ellene.
„Bízom abban, hogy még mindig demokráciában élünk, és az alkotmányunk, illetve az aláírt nemzetközi egyezmények biztosítják a szólás- és vallásszabadságot” – jelentette ki az orvos végzettségű, ötgyermekes politikus, aki 2011-től 2015-ig állt a finn belügyi tárca élén.
A finn államügyészség – amely 2020-ban emelt ellene vádat – közleménye szerint Rasanen megsértette a meleg közösség tagjainak méltóságát. Ezért akár két évig tartó börtönbüntetésre is ítélhető.
A politikus azzal érvel, hogy ő csupán a Bibliából vett idézetet osztott meg a Twitteren, és hozzátette, hogy szerinte a per a vallásszabadság próbája lesz.
„Ha elítélnek (…), az egyenlő lenne a cenzúrával” – tette hozzá. Kifejtette ugyanakkor, hogy amennyiben győztesen kerül ki a perből, ez fontos lépés a szólás-, és vallásszabadság ügyében és ez fontos nemcsak Finnország, hanem Európa és más országok számára is.

Az elmúlt fél évszázad legsúlyosabb erdőtüze pusztít Finnországban: ötödik napja égett pénteken az erdő az ország északnyugati részén, ami a szokatlanul száraz és meleg nyárral hozható összefüggésbe.
Szerte az országból küldtek tűzoltókat a Helsinkitől ötszáz kilométerre északra fekvő Kalajoki folyó völgyébe, ahol 250 tűzoltó és katona, illetve négy helikopter oltja a lángokat. Az erős szél táplálja a tüzet, a lángok az egyik fakoronáról terjednek át a másikra. Mintegy háromszáz hektáron ég az erdő, ennél nagyobb tűzvész csak 51 évvel ezelőtt volt a térségben.
Pénteken esett ugyan némi eső, de Jarmo Haapanen tűzoltóparancsnok legalább egy, vagy akár két-három hét is kell ahhoz, hogy teljesen eloltsák a tüzet, miközben a parázsló aljnövényzet is folyamatos veszélyt jelent.
Szemben az Egyesült Államok nyugati részén vagy Európa egyes déli területein pusztító erdőtüzekkel, a gyéren lakott észak-finnországi régiókban az erdőtüz nem okoz károkat az ingatlanokban, és embereket sem kellett evakuálni.
Az északi-sarki és sarkköri övben háromszor gyorsabban zajlik a felmelegedés a globális átlagnál az üvegházhatást okozó szén-dioxid és más gázok kibocsátása miatt, amivel nő az erdőtüzek előfordulásának veszélye is. Kivételesen hosszú volt Finnországban a nyári hőhullám, júniusban 20 Celsius-fok volt az átlagos hőmérséklet, 4-5 fokkal haladta meg a történelmi átlagot, de előfordult, hogy harminc fok fölé ment a hőmérő higanyszála.

Koronavírus járvány kitörését regisztrálták Finnországban, miután a futballrajongók visszatértek Szentpétervárról az Euro 2020 mérkőzéseit követően, számolt be a Radio Svoboda.

Emelkedett radioaktív szintet észleltek a nyugat-finnországi Olkiluoto-2 atomerőműben, ami miatt automatikusan leállt egy reaktor, de nem volt szivárgás és senki sem sérült meg – közölte csütörtökön a finn atomenergia-ügynökség.
Az üzemzavar, amelyet komoly rendellenességként jellemeztek, csütörtök kora délelőtt történt.
A finn atomenergia-ügynökség (STUK) szerint a zavar feltehetőleg a reaktor hűtéséhez használt víz tisztítóberendezésében keletkezett.
A megemelkedett radioaktivitás miatt teljes körű vészhelyzeti eljárást léptettek életbe az atomerőműben. Az atomenergia ügynökség hangsúlyozta, hogy a helyzet stabilizálódott és az érintett egység biztonságos.
A STUK kiemelte, hogy nem történt szivárgás a környezetbe és az atomerőmű dolgozói sem voltak kitéve az emelkedett szintű radioaktivitásnak.
A Nemzetközi Atomenergia-ügynökség (NAÜ) időközben közölte, hogy tájékoztatást kapott a STUK-tól a történtekről. A finn atomenergia-ügynökség szerint a vizsgálat idejére várhatóan leállítják az Olkiluoto-2 erőművet, de ez nem fogja érinteni az Olkiluoto-1 erőmű működését. Finnországban négy atomerőmű működik, egy ötödik, az Olkiluoto-3 nevű építés alatt van.
