A spanyol meteorológiai szolgálat (Aemet) tájékoztatása szerint a szokatlanul hideg időt a Juliette nevű időjárási front okozza, amely a Baleár-szigetek mellett erőteljes lehűlést, szelet és csapadékot hozott az Ibériai-félsziget jelentős részére. Mínusz 10 Celsius-fok alá csökkent a minimum-hőmérséklet Lérida, Teruel, Guadalajara, Cuenca, Ávila, Segovia, Soria és Zamora városokban. Havazás miatti figyelmeztetést adtak ki Asztúria, Kantábria, Kasztília és León, Baszkföld, valamint Navarra tartományokban.

Bajorország tartományban sok helyen akadozik a közösségi közlekedés, és több járásban rendkívüli tanítási szünetet rendeltek el a havazás miatt.
A legsúlyosabb helyzet Würzburg és Coburg környékén alakult ki, ahol az útfenntartó csaknem 50 kotrógép bevetésével sem tudott lépést tartani a havazással. A hirtelen jött nagy mennyiségű csapadék miatt Würzburg tágabb térségében, Alsó-Frankföld kormányzati kerületben már délelőtt tízig 110 kisebb-nagyobb közúti baleset történt, a szomszédos Felső-Frankföldön pedig nagyjából száz – jelentette a Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) tartományi közszolgálati médiatársaság.
A Németország északi részén fekvő Schleswig-Holstein tartományban már kedd este csúszóssá váltak az utak. Húsznál is több baleset történt, legalább két ember súlyosan megsérült, és több autó megrongálódott – írja az MTI.
A szövetségi meteorológiai szolgálat (DWD) előrejelzése szerint az utóbbi hetek szokatlanul meleg időjárása után az egész országban visszatér a tél. Szerda éjjel a hőmérséklet megközelítheti a mínusz 10 Celsius-fokot, és az ország keleti részén is akár 10 centiméteres hótakaró alakulhat ki.
A hó csütörtökön Magyarországra is megérkezhet. Egy mediterrán ciklon miatt ezúttal az eső csütörtök hajnaltól egyre nagyobb területen havas esőbe, havazásba válthat át. Bár az Alföldön a csapadék döntően eső formájában érkezik, a magasabban fekvő területeken érdemi hótakaró is várható. Emellett Budapest térségében is előfordulhat havas eső, havazás.

A Tokiótól északnyugatra fekvő japán kikötővárosokban rekordmennyiségű hó esett, ami miatt autók százai rekedtek a főútvonalakon éjszakára, a helyi vonatközlekedésben pedig fennakadások voltak, és helyenként az áramszolgáltatás is akadozott kedden.
Niigata prefektúrában a hóban rekedt autósoknak a katasztrófaelhárító egységek segítettek kiszabadulni a Kasivazaki és más városok környékén kialakult dugókból.
A japán közlekedési miniszter közleménye szerint folyik a Kasivazaki autópályáján kialakult torlódás megszüntetése, de a helyi hatóságok szerint másfelé – Nagoaka és Odzsija autópályáin – jelenleg nincs mód a helyzet javítására.
Helyi idő szerint kedden hajnalban Kasivazaki környékén legalább nyolcszáz jármű vesztegelt a hóban. A hatóságok szerint a hóeltakarításnak köszönhetően három órával később a számuk háromszázra apadt.
Több mint fél nap alatt 50 métert haladtak
Az éjszakát a dugóban töltő Mijazava Kumi általános iskolai tanár arról számolt be, hogy a torlódás már hétfőn délután kezdődött, és 15 óra alatt mindössze 50 métert haladt előre az úton kedd reggelig. Mint mondta, a hóban ragadt emberek segítettek egymásnak, egy út menti irodából innivalót kaptak, és a mosdóba is beengedték őket.
A heves havazás nagy területeken áramkimaradásokat is okozott, és fennakadások vannak a vonatközlekedésben. A Kelet-japán Vasúttársaság számos helyi járatát felfüggesztette.
A kedd reggelt megelőző 24 órában 87 centiméter hó hullott a Niigata prefektúrabeli Uonumában, 76 centiméter Nagaokában és 72 centiméter Kasivazakiban. A Japán Meteorológiai Szolgálat jelentése szerint néhány térségben háromszor annyi hó esett, mint az évszaknak megfelelő átlag, Jamagata prefektúrában egy faluban 2,24 méter hó hullott, Niigata prefektúrában pedig egy településen 1,87 méter magas havat mértek.

A craiovai regionális közút-karbantartó vállalat vasárnap arra figyelmeztette a járművezetőket, hogy a − Páring-hegységen több mint kétezer méteres magasságban átvezető − DN67C Transalpina főúton, havazik, illetve havaseső esik, ezért téligumik és hóláncok nélkül ne induljanak útnak, vagy ha már ott vannak, várják meg a hókotró járműveket és a nyomukban haladva ereszkedjenek le a hegyről − közölte az MTI.
Bukarestben vasárnap több mint húsz olyan helyszínre riasztották a tűzoltókat, ahol fákat döntött ki, villanyvezetékeket szakított le, vagy tetőszerkezeteket tépett le az erős szél.
A Calarasi megyei Oltenitán a DN31-es főúton egy mozgásban lévő autóra esett egy a szél által kidöntött fa, a jármű vezetője könnyebb horzsolásokkal megúszta a balesetet.
Giurgiu megyében a fővárost a legforgalmasabb román-bolgár közúti határátkelővel összekötő DN5-ös főúton vasárnap szintén egy kidőlt fa miatt zárták le a fél útpályát.
A közlekedési rendőrség tájékoztatása szerint vasárnap délelőtt leállították a manőverezést Románia valamennyi tengeri és folyami kikötőjében az erős szél miatt.
Románia területének nagy részén − a Bánság és Partium kivételével − vasárnap estig elsőfokú (sárga) meteorológiai figyelmeztetés van érvényben az óránként 75 kilométeres sebességet is elérő széllökések miatt. A Székelyföld hegyvidéki részeire és a Keleti-Kárpátok más térségeire narancssárga riasztást adtak ki: itt óránként 90-100 kilométeres sebességű széllökések várhatók.

Havazást jelentettek több közel-keleti országból, Szíriában három gyermek meghalt egy hóviharban, ahol rendkívüli hideg sújtja a háború elől elmenekült embereket.

Az extrém hidegnek több gyermek áldozata is van.
A helyi menekültügyi szervezetek szerint több ezer ember van veszélyben az extrém hideg miatt. Ráadásul az előrejelzések szerint a hőmérséklet akár −14 Celsius-fok alá is csökkenhet, ami 40 éve nem látott hőmérsékleti rekordnak számítana – olvasható az Esőtánc cikkében.
Havazásról számoltak be Irakból is, ahol az északi Kurdzsisztán tartományt borította be a hó. A fővárosban, Bagdadban 1914 után és 2020 után harmadjára észleltek havazást.
Szaúd-Arábia sem úszta meg, január 12-én az északon fekvő Tabuk régióban havazott. A térség nagyjából 400 méterre fekszik a tenger szintje felett. A hideg időjárás ráadásul tartósnak bizonyul, volt olyan térség, ahol −5 Celsius-fokot is mértek.
Így alakultak a hőmérsékletek a Közel-Keleten:
- Szíriában, Damaszkuszban −8 Celsius-fokot mértek
- Jordániában, Aqaba városában +5 Celsius-fok volt
- Izraelben: Tel Aviv: 2,6, Beer Sheva: −0,1 Celsius-fok
- Irak: Kirkuk: −4,7, Bagdad: −2 Celsius-fok
- Szaúd-Arábia: Turaif: −6, Guriat: −5, Arar: −4 Celsius-fok
- Egyiptom: Nekhel városában −4,5 Celsius-fokig süllyedt a hőmérő higanyszála

Az időjárás drasztikus változása fagyos hideggel is járt, az éjszaka ismét legalább 15 centiméter hó esett az érintett területen, Denver és Boulder között. Sokfelé nincs áram és a gáz.

Sűrűn havazik a Japán-tenger partvidékén, a néhol több mint egyméteres hótakaró járattörléseket és -késéseket okozott a légi, vasúti és a tömegközlekedésben – számolt be az M1 Híradója.
A japán meteorológusok közölték, hogy szilveszterig még több – az északi, északnyugati partvidékhez közeli területeken akár 80 centiméteres – hóra kell számítani. Arra kérik az embereket, hogy készüljenek fel, mert a helyzet ennél is rosszabb lesz. Ezért csak a legszükségesebb teendők miatt hagyják el házaikat.
