Ismételten terrortámadást hajtottak végre iszlamista szélsőségesek Nigerben, ahol 137 ember életét oltották ki egyetlen akcióval.
Több falut is megtámadtak Niger délnyugati részén, Mali határához közel, amely az eddigiek során is a világ egyik legerőszakosabb régiójának számított. A támadásban 137 embert mészároltak le, és helyszíni beszámolók szerint a dzsihadisták válogatás nélkül öltek, akit értek.
Zakaria Abdourahamane kormányszóvivő jelentette be a támadás tényét a nigeri közszolgálati televízióban: „ezek a fegyveresek banditák szisztematikusan az egész civil lakosságot célpontnak tekintik, és még egy lépést tettek a horror és a brutalitás útján”.
A kormányszóvivő három napos nemzeti gyászt hirdetett, valamint kihangsúlyozta, hogy a kormány mindent meg fog tenni annak érdekében, hogy megerősítse a közbiztonságot a régióban, és felelősségre vonjak a „gyáva és bűnös” támadás elkövetőit.
A támadásban a Mali hátárhoz közeli Intazayene, Bakorat és Wistane faluk voltak érintettek, és egy helyi tisztviselő beszámolója szerint az iszlám szélsőségesek „mindenre lőttek, amit csak mozogni láttak” – idézte a Deutsche Welle.
Mohamed Bazoum elnökké választása óta megint kezd elszabadulni a pokol Nigerben, zsinórban a második brutális támadást hajtották végre szélsőségesek. A múlt hét folyamán 66 ember vesztette életét Tillaberi régióban, az úgynevezett „hármas határnál” – Burkina Faso, Mali és Niger közös határrégiójában.
Januárban szintén Tillaberiben történt egy brutális támadás, akkor két faluban összesen 100 civilt mészároltak le a dzsihadisták. A régiót teljesen elsüllyeszti az iszlám radikalizmus, ám az elemzők szerint a nigeri terrorellenes fellépés legalább annyira rossz volt, mert annak mentén etnikai alapú konfliktus is kialakult.

A forrongó nigeri Tillabéri régióban legalább 58 civilt mészároltak le motorokon támadó fegyveresek, majd egy ottani település magtárait is felégették – jelentette be kedden a nigeri kormány szóvivője.
Abdourahmane Zakaria az állami televízióban azt nyilatkozta, hogy háromnapos gyászt rendeltek el az áldozatok emlékére.
Az emberek éppen a mali határon található Banibangou településen rendezett állatvásárról tértek vissza hétfőn Chinagoder és Darey Dey településekre, amikor járműveiket megállították a támadók, akik legyilkolták az utasokat. A feltételezett szélsőségesek értékes élelmiszerkészleteket rejtő magtárakat is megsemmisítettek Darey Dey településen.
Egyelőre egy terrorista csoport sem jelentkezett elkövetőként, ugyanakkor köztudomású, hogy az Iszlám Állam dzsihadista szervezet helyi ága tevékeny a régióban.
Januárban mintegy százan vesztették életüket két falu elleni támadásban szintén a Tillabéri régióban. Az elkövetők kilétét továbbra is homály fedi.
Tillabéri Mali, Burkina Faso és Niger hármas határának térségében található, ahol szélsőségesek vetették meg a lábukat, és rendszeresen indítanak portyákat a polgári lakosság ellen. Egyes frakciók az al-Kaida nemzetközi terrorhálózathoz, mások az Iszlám Államhoz tartoznak.
Az ENSZ adatai szerint a dzsihadisták támadásaiban Maliban, Burkina Fasóban és Nigerben tavaly négyezren haltak meg.

Az Orvosok Határok Nélkül (MSF) segélyszervezet által közreadott kép egy tábori konyha füstölgõ maradványairól a nigériai Borno szövetségi állam Rann településénél mûködõ menekülttáborban 2017. január 17-én, miután a nigériai légierõ a Boko Haram nigériai iszlamista szervezet fegyveresei helyett tévedésbõl a menekülttábor lakóit bombázta. Több mint kétszáz polgári személy vesztette életét a légi támadásban. (MTI/EPA/MSF) Az AFP francia hírügynökség arról számolt be, hogy mintegy hetven fegyveres ütött rajta egy településen az ország délkeleti Diffa térségében, és a falu nagy részét lerombolták.
A támadók legkevesebb huszonhét embert meggyilkoltak, sokan megsebesültek, illetve eltűntek is vannak. Több mint nyolcszáz épületet felgyújtottak, a piactér is teljesen leégett.
A Boko Haram Nigériában szerveződött meg 2009-ben, majd kiterjesztette tevékenységét a szomszédos Nigerre, Csádra és Kamerunra is, ahol helyi lakosokat toborzott. A szervezet célja egy „iszlám kalifátus” megteremtése. Az általuk elkövetett merényletekben az utóbbi tíz évben tízezrek vesztették életüket.

A 27 éves Philippe Waltont a Niger délnyugati részén található Massalatából rabolták el, ahol tavaly óta élt családjával. Walton tevéket, bárányokat és szárnyasokat tartott, és mangót termesztett a Nigériával határos térségben. Kedden egy csoport, AK–47-es gépkarabélyokkal felszerelt, motoros férfi túszul ejtette. Legalább hat külföldi túszt tartanak fogva iszlamisták Maliban, Burkina Fasóban és Nigerben. A szélsőségesek több millió dollár váltságdíjat gyűjtöttek az elmúlt években. Az amerikai kormány gyakran bírálta azokat az országokat, amelyek pénzt fizetnek állampolgáraik szabadulásáért.

Keddre virradóra Nigerben ismeretlen fegyveresek elraboltak egy amerikai állampolgárt – jelentették a nyugat-afrikai ország hatóságai.
Philippe Waltont az ország délnyugati részén található Massalatában lévő otthonából rabolta el hat támadó – mondta Ibrahim Abba Lelé, a térség prefektusa.
Hozzátette, a fegyveresek feltehetőleg Nigériából jöhettek át a határon, mivel az ottani hausa nyelven, illetve angolul beszéltek. Lelé szerint Walton tavaly óta élt családjával ebben a faluban. Sajtójelentések szerint a férfi misszionáriusként dolgozott.
A niameyi amerikai nagykövetség egyik névtelenséget kérő forrása megerősítette a történteket. Egyelőre nem tudni, mi állhat a tett hátterében.
Niger nyugati és délkeleti részében fegyveres csoportok ismételten követnek el támadásokat. A Száhel-övezetben több iszlamista milícia tevékenykedik, egyes csoportok az Iszlám Állam dzsihadista szervezetnek, mások az al-Kaida nemzetközi terrorcsoportnak esküdtek hűséget. Nemrég az Iszlám Állam jelentkezett az augusztus 9-i nigeri terrortámadás elkövetőjeként, amelyben megöltek hat francia segélymunkást és két helyi kísérőjüket.
Franciaország és más országok is utazási figyelmeztetést adtak ki Niger olyan térségeire, ahol iszlamista fegyveres csoportok tevékenykednek.

A június óta tartó esőzések és áradások következtében 45 ember vesztette életét, és több mint 226 ezren váltak hajléktalanná Nigerben – jelentették csütörtökön a nyugat-afrikai ország hatóságai.
A főváros, Niamey több kerületét elöntötte a víz, mivel hétfő óta a Niger folyó vízszintje jóval túllépte a kritikus határt, azóta pedig nem szűntek az erős esőzések, amelyek tovább súlyosbították a helyzetet.
Niger területének legnagyobb része homok- és kősivatag, de délen, ahol júniustól októberig tart az esős évszak, most a víz túláradó bősége okozza a lakosok számára a legnagyobb bajt.
Niamey másfél milliós lakosságának nagy része ráadásul a folyó partján lakik, az áradás következtében hajléktalanokká váltak.
Niger egyébként az ország legfőbb folyója, amely Sierra Leone és Guinea határán ered, nyugatról keletre áramlik, és Niger előtt áthalad Malin. Az ország délnyugati részén lép be az országba, 4200 kilométer hosszával ez a harmadik leghosszabb folyó a kontinensen a Nílus és a Kongó után. Mintegy százmillió ember él a partvidékén.
