A Fülöp-szigetek és Kína előzetes megállapodásra jutott a vitatott hovatartozású Second Thomas-zátonyt illetően a további konfrontáció elkerülése végett a Dél-kínai-tengeren – közölte vasárnap a manilai külügyminisztérium.
A tárca szerint az egyezséget sorozatos konzultációkat követően sikerült elérni a Fülöp-szigetek fővárosában.
Kína csaknem az egész Dél-kínai-tengert saját felségterületének tekinti, beleértve a Second Thomas-zátonyt is, amely a Fülöp-szigetek kizárólagos gazdasági övezetén belül található nagyjából 200 kilométerre nyugatra Palawan szigetétől. A Fülöp-szigetek területi igényeinek jelzéseként csapatokat is állomásoztat helyben 1999 óta, a szándékosan zátonyra futtatott Sierra Madre nevű hajón.

„Megdöbbenéssel hallottam, hogy az elkövetők a rendőrséghez tartoznak” – mondta Abalos az emberrablásról tartott szerdai sajtótájékoztatón. Ez az incidens súlyosan sérti a rendőrségbe vetett közbizalmat és a rendőri erők alapvető értékeit – tette hozzá.
A rendőrség tíz civilt is keres az emberrablással összefüggésben. A gyanúsítottak ellen emberrablás, autólopás és tolvajlás ügyében tettek büntetőjogi panaszt.

A Fülöp-szigeteki hadsereg elmondása szerint egy robbantásos merénylettel vádolt muszlim lázadócsoport vezetőjét és tizenegy társát ölték meg az ország déli részén.
A hétfői rajtaütés és egy órás tűzharc során hét katona megsebesült a déli Maguindanao tartomány Datu Saudi Ampatuan városában. Jose Vladimir Cagara dandártábornok elmondta, hogy az akció során megölték a lázadó csoport egyik kulcsfontosságú parancsnokát, Mohiden Animbangot, a testvérét és 10 másik feltételezett fegyverest is, a helyszínen pedig tucatnyi lőfegyvert találták.
„Ez a csoport már régóta hírhedt a robbantásokról, a hadsereg és a rendőrség helyőrségeinek megtámadásáról és a busztársaságok zsarolásáról. Végre utolértük őket” – mondta Dennis Almorato alezredes, a regionális hadsereg szóvivője.
A hadsereg szerint a katonaság megpróbálta meggyőzni Animbang csoportját, hogy adja meg magát, de ők inkább úgy döntöttek hogy folytatják a harcot a kormány ellen.
A Bangsamoro Iszlám Szabadságharcosok nevű szervezet egyike azon kevés fegyveres csoportoknak, amely még mindig szeparatista felkelést folytat az ország déli részén, a kisebbségi muszlimok szülőföldjén. A Fülöp-szigetek túlnyomóan katolikus vallású ország, hadserege pedig már évtizedek óta harcol a helyi muszlim és kommunista fegyveres mozgalmak ellen.
A legnagyobb Fülöp-szigeteki muszlim lázadócsoport, a több mint negyven évig az iszlám állam megteremtéséért harcoló Moro Iszlám Felszabadítási Front (MILF) 2014-ben békeegyezményt kötött a kormánnyal, a felkelők közül több mint ezren adták át fegyverüket, ez pedig enyhítette az évtizedek óta tartó gyakori harcokat.
A lázadócsoport egyik parancsnoka azonban kivált a szervezetből a béketárgyalások miatt, és megalakította a Bangsamoro csoportot, amelynek néhány keményvonalas tagja később az Iszlám Állam terrorszervezethez csatlakozott.
Tavaly ifjabb Ferdinand Marcos elnök azonban bejelentette, hogy a Fülöp-szigeteki hadseregnek a külső fenyegetések elhárítására és az ország tengeri határainak védelmére kell koncentrálnia. A rendőrség hétfőn egy tartományi ellenőrző pont rendszeres vizsgálata során fedezte fel és foglalta le a kábítószert, a drogokat szállító jármű vezetőjét elfogták és rendőri őrizet alá helyezték – közölte újságírókkal Luis De Luna rendőrőrnagy.
„Ez a legnagyobb shabu-szállítmány (a metamfetamin kategóriájába tartozó népszerű helyi drog elnevezése), amit valaha lefoglaltunk” – mondta a Fülöp-szigetek elnöke újságíróknak, újfent fogadalmat téve a kábítószer-szállítmányok bejutásának megakadályozására. Marcos továbbá figyelmeztette a drogkereskedőket, hogy kormánya nem enged a kábítószer-kereskedelem felszámolására tett erőfeszítésekből.
A hivatalos adatok szerint Marcos adminisztrációja 2022 júliusa és 2023 decembere között 36 803 kábítószer-ellenes műveletet hajtott végre országszerte, amelyek során 13,2 tonnányi illegális drogot foglaltak le és 49 700 embert vettek őrizetbe.

Erős földrengés rázta meg szombat hajnalban a Fülöp-szigeteki Mindanao szigetet. Károkról nem érkeztek jelentések, de fel kellett függeszteni egy korábbi földcsuszamlás mentési munkálatait.
A német Földtudományi Kutatóközpont (GeoForschungsZentrum, GFZ) jelentése szerint a földrengés 5,6 erősségű volt 10 kilométeres mélységben gyökerezett. A Fülöp-szigeteki szeizmológiai ügynökség (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) jelentése szerint pedig a földrengés 5,9-es erősségű volt, epicentruma pedig 27 kilométeres mélységben volt.

A Macóban, helyi idő szerint kedden este történt földcsuszamlás egy aranybánya dolgozóit temette maga alá – mondta el Rosa Ma. Cristina Rosete-Manuel, hozzátéve, hogy 41 alkalmazott után még folyik a kutatás.
A szóvivő tájékoztatása szerint a 45 túlélő közül három ember súlyos állapotban van.
Az Apex Mining bányavállalat közleménye szerint a földcsuszamlás két buszt sodort el, amelyben dolgozói utaztak.
A katasztrófavédelmi hivatal Maco körzetében öt falu lakosainak, mintegy 600 embernek az evakuálását rendelte el. A környéken az utak járhatatlanná váltak, és a mobilszolgáltatás is megszakadt.
A szóvivő közölte, hogy a hadsereg nyújt segítséget a rádiókapcsolat létesítésében és a mentési munkákban.
A tartományban január vége óta heves esőzések okoznak áradásokat és földcsuszamlásokat. A Fülöp-szigeteki kormány adatai szerint a természeti katasztrófa, amelynek már több mint 20 halálos áldozata volt, mintegy 800 ezer embert érintett a térségben.

Landfill Collapse in Philippines Leaves at Least One Dead, 38 Still Missing – 🇵🇭Officials
A deadly avalanche of garbage and debris that buried workers at a landfill in Cebu City has also left several others injured, officials said Friday, as per local media.
At least three students are confirmed dead and five others were injured in a #shooting incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, the #Philippines on Monday. Two suspects, both minors, have been arrested.

Az esőzések számos halálos áldozatot követeltek a Fülöp-szigetek délkeleti részén található Mindanao szigetén, Davao de Oro tartományban 13 ember meghalt, ketten eltűntek, a szomszédos Davao de Norte tartományban további hét halálesetről számoltak be a hatóságok.
Az északkeletről érkező óceáni szél január 28. és február 2. között heves esőzéseket okozott Mindanao alacsony légnyomású, hegyvidéki területeire érve. A lehulló csapadék halálos kimenetelű áradásokat és földcsuszamlásokat okozott – erősítette meg a nemzeti katasztrófavédelem.
Az esőzések több mint 812 ezer embert érintettek, közülük 85 ezren evakuációs központokban találtak menedéket.
