A rendőrség közlése szerint a robbanás az erősen őrzött Ade Adden nemzetközi repülőtérhez vezető útnál történt. Aamin Abdirahman, az Aamin mentőszolgálat igazgatója szerint olyan gépkocsioszlopot ért a támadás, amelyben golyóálló autók is voltak. Sajtóértesülések szerint a gépkocsik az ENSZ tulajdonában voltak.
„Nyolc holttestet szállítottunk el a helyszínről” – mondta újságíróknak az igazgató, aki Twitteren a robbanás helyszínéről is közzétett képet.
Az al-Shabaab nevéhez számos hasonló merénylet fűződik. A dzsihadista szervezet évek óta harcol Szomália központi kormánya ellen, hogy az iszlám törvénykezés (saría) szigorú értelmezésén alapuló saját uralmát megteremtse.

Kedden közölték a hatóságok, hogy hat rab meghalt és 33 megsebesült egy Fülöp-szigeteki túlzsúfolt börtönben történt verekedés során, ami már a második eset néhány héten belül.
A Caloocan városi börtönben történt hétfőn a halálos verekedés rivális bandák között, amit Xavier Solda, a Börtönigazgatóság és a büntetés-végrehajtás szóvivője közölt a nyilvánossággal. Elmondása alapján két rab verekedni kezdett, majd mások is csatlakoztak a harchoz, fegyvereket és pengéket használva.
Az első ilyen incidens január 2-án a fővárosi New Bilibid börtönben történt, melynek során három rab meghalt és 14 megsebesült – olvashatjuk a CNA oldalán.
“Már majdnem két éve, hogy a COVID-19 miatt nincs fizikai látogatás a létesítményeinkben, így nem tudjuk félretenni azt a szempontot, hogy ez lehetett az egyik oka annak, hogy mások is csatlakoztak a két PDL (szabadságuktól megfosztott személy) közötti verekedéshez” – mondta Solda, majd hozzátette, hogy a rend fenntartása érdekében megerősítették a létesítményen belüli biztonsági intézkedéseket.
Az erőszak sajnálatos módon gyakori a Fülöp-szigeteki börtönökben, ahol nem megfelelő az infrastruktúra, emellett az igazságszolgáltatási rendszer is rendkívül túlterhelt, ez pedig magával hozza azt is, hogy a cellák olykor ötszörösére vannak megtöltve.
A Caloocan városi börtön jelenleg körülbelül 1900 rabot tart, holott az kevesebb, mint 200 rab számára lett megtervezve eredetileg.

Leszakadt egy tó fölött magasodó sziklaorom egy része Brazíliában, a Furnas-tavon egy vízesés közelében. A tó és a vízesés népszerű turistalátványosság, amit gyakorta keresnek fel vizitúrázók. A tragédiáról készült felvételek alapján most is legalább hat motorcsónak volt a vízesés közelében, amikor bekövetkezett a tragédia.
A brazil O Tempo twitterén közzétett felvétel szerint a hat hajóból ötnek sikerült időben szétspriccelnie, ám a hatodikat telibe találta a leomló, ránézésre legalább húsz méter magas sziklafal. A zuhanás közben széteső sziklafal darabjai a telibe talált motorcsónakon túl két másik hajót is eltaláltak.
Az ABC News helyi hatóságokra hivatkozó jelentése szerint a tragédiában hatan életüket vesztették, és akár húsz embernek is nyoma veszhetett – a helyi tűzoltóság egyelőre próbálja azonosítani az áldozatokat és az eltünteket, akik után helikopterekkel és búvárokkal is kutatnak.
A hivatalos tájékoztatás szerint legalább 32-en megsebesültek, bár a többségüket szombat este már kiengedték a kórházból.
Edgard Estevo, a Minas Gerais állami tűzöltóság parancsnoka szerint a baleset Sao Jose da Barra és Capitolio városa között történt a tavon, a motorcsónakok ez utóbbiból indultak.
A Furnas-tó valójában egy víztározó, amit 1958-ban létesítettek egy vízerőmű építésekor. Azóta népszerű turistacélpont Sao Paulótól 420 kilométerre északra.
A tragédia okát egyelőre csak találgatják. A hatóságok szerint a sziklafal talán a nagy, 17 ezer ember kitelepítésével járó árvizeket okozó esőzések során lazulhatott meg.

Az Iszlám Állam közölte, hogy vasárnap Kirkuk közelében hajtott végre támadást az iraki rendőrök ellen, akik közül tizen életüket vesztették.

A Kabulhoz közel eső, észak-keleti tartomány politikai engedmények fejében történő átadásáról a tárgyalások gyorsan kudarcba fulladtak, és a tálibok úgy döntöttek, erővel szerzik meg Pandzsírt, amelyre az 1996-tól 2001-ig tartó uralmuk alatt nem tudták kiterjeszteni hatalmukat. A mostani ellenállást az afgán hadseregnek a régióba menekült alakulatai és a helyi erők alkotják. A hatalomból elűzött afgán kormány tagjai közül is sokan oda menekültek. A katonai ellenállás Ahmad Maszúd körül szerveződött, aki a 2001. szeptember 9-én meggyilkolt Ahmad Sah Maszúd, a tálibellenes küzdelem vezéralakjának a fia.

Tizenöt diákot és négy alkalmazottat hurcoltak el az északnyugat-nigériai Zamfara állam Mezőgazdasági és Állattudományi főiskolájáról.
Az állam rendőrségének szóvivője, Mohammed Shehu szerint egy rendőr és két biztonsági őr életét vesztette a támadásban. Mindez egy hónappal azt követően történt, hogy a főiskola igazgatóját elrabolták, majd néhány nap múlva elengedték – számolt be az MTI.
Nigériában rendszeresek a tömeges emberrablások, különösen Zamfara államban. Ehhez folyamodnak többek között a térségben aktív iszlamista terroristák is, akik lányokat és nőket kényszerítenek arra, hogy dzsihadistákkal házasodjanak össze, vagy öngyilkos merényleteket kövessenek el, másokat pedig dolgoztatnak. Más esetekben bűnszervezetek rabolnak el gyerekeket azért, hogy váltságdíjat követeljenek értük.
Zamfarában 317 lányt raboltak el februárban egy bentlakásos iskolából. Azóta négy hasonló eset történt, amelyek során mintegy ötszáz embert, köztük számos gyereket hurcoltak el banditák.
