У Греції 26 серпня заарештували двох чоловіків за навмисне розпалювання лісових пожеж, у той час коли пожежники борються з вогнем, який, як вважають, вже став причиною загибелі 21 людини, повідомляє AP.
Відомо, що одного чоловіка заарештували за навмисний підпал сухої трави в районі Карістос на острові Еввія. Пожежна служба повідомила, що чоловік зізнався в причетності до ще чотирьох пожеж у цьому районі у липні та серпні.
Другого чоловіка заарештували в районі міста Лариса, також нібито за навмисне підпалювання сухої рослинності. В обох випадках справи направлено в судові органи.
Офіційні особи заявили, що причиною кількох пожеж у Греції за останній тиждень є підпал, хоча й досі незрозуміло, що спровокувало найбільші пожежі в країні, зокрема в північно-східному регіоні Еврос та біля міста Александруполіс, де сталися майже всі смертельні випадки.
«Деякі… палії підпалюють, ставлячи під загрозу ліси, приватну власність і передусім людські життя», – заявив міністр із питань кліматичної кризи та цивільного захисту Вассіліс Кікіліас.
«Те, що відбувається, є не просто неприйнятним, а підлим та злочинним», – додав урядовець.
Греція через посуху та аномально високі температури потерпає від лісових пожеж. У певних регіонах, зокрема на острові Родос, виникла катастрофічна ситуація, яка призвела до евакуації місцевого населення та туристів із зони лиха.

У Греції рятувальники другий день борються з масштабною лісовою пожежею, що спалахнула в районі міста Александруполіс.

У районі пожежі працюють 48 пожежних машин з екіпажами з 176 осіб, 10 піших рятувальних груп, яким допомагають сім пожежних літаків і чотири гелікоптери.
Зараз зусилля зосереджені на великому вогневому фронті, який все ще вирує на схід від села Лутрос. В інших районах ситуація покращилася.
Згоріли будинки в селах Етохорі та Пефка, а також церква в Етохорі.

Регіональний президент Фернандо Клавіхо заявив у п’ятницю, що лісові пожежі охопили приблизно 5 тисяч гектарів острова Тенеріфе на іспанських Канарських островах.

Понад 4000 людей вже були евакуйовані зі своїх будинків від початку пожеж на острові у вівторок. У спортивних залах були облаштовані аварійні укриття, йдеться у матеріалі.
Повідомляється, що до гасіння полум’я на північному сході Тенеріфе ввечері п’ятниці було залучено близько 300 співробітників екстреної служби. У суботу вранці також мали бути розгорнуті 18 літаків і гелікоптерів для боротьби зі стихією.
Причина лісової пожежі, яка спалахнула поблизу невеликого містечка Арафо, залишається невизначеною.

Через руйнівні лісові пожежі на Гавайських островах влада наказала евакуювати населення з районів, яким загрожує небезпека. У кількох населених пунктах закрили школи, у місті Лахайна деякі люди, рятуючись від полум’я, кинулися в море, повідомляє AP.
За даними влади, з лісовими пожежами борються як на Мауї, так і на острові Гаваї (відомому ще як Великий острів). Берегова охорона США врятувала 12 людей з моря поблизу міста Лахайна.
Пожежа завдала шкоди кільком будівлям у популярному серед туристів районі Лахайни, повідомила влада міста. Для проведення ефективної евакуації, тих громадян, які перебувають у безпечних місцях, просять наразі нікуди не вирушати.
Влада міста в соцмережах та за допомогою попереджувальних знаків на дорогах закликає не заходити на територію міста.
Гасіння пожежі ускладнюють пориви вітру швидкістю 90–120 км/год. та надзвичайна посуха. За даними Національної метеорологічної служби (NSW), роботі пожежників перешкоджає ураган «Дора», який вирує в південних районах Гавайських островів на відстані близько 800 км.
Про смертельні випадки не повідомлялося. Сума матеріальних збитків поки що невідома.
На острові Гаваї діє червоний рівень небезпеки. Губернаторка Сільвія Люк оголосила надзвичайний стан.
Водночас на острові Мауї близько 15 тисяч людей залишилися без електрики, багато будинків постраждали від ураганного вітру, довелося також тимчасово призупинити використання пожежних вертольотів. Вогнеборці цілу ніч прибирали з доріг повалені дерева та електроопори. Подібні пошкодження були й на острові Оаху, де знаходиться столиця, Гонолулу.

У Португалії пожежі охопили тисячі гектарів лісу. У ніч на понеділок до гасіння вогню поблизу південного міста Одеміра було залучено 800 осіб, понад 1400 людей довелось евакуювати. Під час роботи зазнали поранень щонайменше 9 пожежників.
Вогонь спалахнув поблизу Одеміри в суботу. Сильний вітер гнав полум’я на південь у напрямку Алгарве – головного туристичного регіону Португалії.
На сьогодні пожежа знищила близько 6700 гектарів землі, а загалом довелось евакуювати 19 сіл, чотири туристичні курорти та кемпінг. Мер міста Хелдер Геррейру описав ситуацію як критичну, інформує BBC.
У центральній частині країни перекрили кілька ділянок автомагістралей, зокрема A1, що з’єднує Лісабон і Порто.
Для гасіння вогню було залучено 16 водних бомбардувальників.
Три великі пожежі, які охопили сотні гектарів землі в Іспанії, були локалізовані протягом вихідних, але для більшої частини країни попередження про можливість нових загорань залишається актуальним і надалі.

Влада Греції в понеділок учергове попередила про ризик виникнення пожеж і закликала громадян бути обережними під час використання відкритого вогню. Крім того, країна направила два літаки для гасіння пожеж на Кіпр, адже через вітряну погоду є побоювання, що там знову пошириться полум’я.
Пожежна служба Греції в соцмережах звернула увагу громадськості на надзвичайно високий ризик виникнення загорань у регіоні Аттика навколо столиці, у південній частині півострова Пелопоннес та на заході Криту. Причина таких прогнозів – надзвичайно висока температура повітря й сильний вітер, який очікується цього тижня в кількох регіонах країни.
Оскільки на більшій частині Греції тижнями не було дощу, достатньо навіть невеликої іскри для виникнення величезної пожежі, попереджають експерти.
Пожежі в Греції – повсякденне явище, але більшість із них можна контролювати та швидко долати. Нерідко вони виникають через необережність, наприклад, викинутий недопалок або необачне приготування барбекю в саду.
У понеділок Греція направила два літаки для гасіння пожеж на Кіпр, де з п’ятниці вогонь охопив кілька квадратних кілометрів гір. Сотні пожежників у суботу змогли приборкати його, але є побоювання, що через вітряну погоду полум’я спалахне знову.
Боротися зі стихією допомагає також Йорданія, яка надала три літаки. Міністерство навколишнього середовища Кіпру веде переговори про допомогу і з Ізраїлем. Міністерство цивільної оборони Греції заявило про відправку на середземноморський острів 20 тонн антипіренів – речовин, що ускладнюють займання матеріалів та знижують швидкість поширення полум’я.

За оцінками експертів, нинішній липень став найспекотнішим місяцем за останні 120 тисяч років, а найспекотнішим днем виявилося 6 липня. Крім того, на цей місяць припали всі 23 дні з найвищою температурою, яка коли-небудь фіксувалася.
«Екстремальна погода, що вплинула на мільйони людей у липні, на жаль, є суворою реальністю зміни клімату та провісником майбутнього», – заявив Генеральний секретар Всесвітньої метеорологічної організації Петтері Таалас. «Це буде не тільки найспекотніший липень, але й найспекотніший місяць з точки зору абсолютної середньої глобальної температури», – додав професор.
Лісові пожежі, викликані спекою, сухою погодою та сильним вітром, спалахнули в десяти країнах Середземномор’я. У Європейському Союзі цього року набагато більше пожеж, а спалена територія значно перевищує площу, яка в середньому потерпає протягом сезону лісових пожеж.
В Алжирі лісові пожежі призвели до загибелі десятків людей, довелося евакуювати мешканців понад 1500 домогосподарств. Вогонь поширився і на сусідній Туніс.
На вихідних у Хорватії пожежа охопила тисячу гектарів поблизу Дубровника. У Франції горів острів Корсика.
У Греції пожежі на материку й на островах Корфу, Евія та Родос, що знищили близько 100 тисяч гектарів і призвели до евакуації понад 20 тисяч людей, гасили сотні вогнеборців. Загинули щонайменше чотири особи, зокрема двоє пілотів – їхній літак розбився під час гасіння пожежі на острові Евія. На заході Греції вогонь спричинив вибухи на складі боєприпасів. У кінці тижня влада заявила, що пожежі переважно взяті під контроль.
В Італії, яка останнім часом найбільше постраждала від спеки, на Сицилії протягом тижня внаслідок руйнівних пожеж загинули три людини.
У Португалії в середу вдалося приборкати пожежу в національному парку в прибережному містечку Кашкайш неподалік від Лісабона.
В Іспанії в ніч на середу вогнеборці локалізували лісову пожежу на острові Гран-Канарія, де палало близько тисячі гектарів. Цивільна гвардія регіону евакуювала частину жителів. Минулого тижня пожежа на Ла-Пальмі, одному з Канарських островів, знищила щонайменше 11 000 гектарів лісу.
У Сирії пожежі вирували в західній частині країни, у провінції Латакія.
У Туреччині лісові пожежі поширилися в районі Анталії на узбережжі Середземного моря.
Євросоюз спрямував до Греції й Тунісу понад 490 пожежників та 9 пожежних літаків. До гасіння вогню в Південній Європі долучилися також Болгарія, Кіпр, Румунія, Словаччина та Сербія.

Лісова пожежа небезпечно насувається на Канаду зі Сполучених Штатів, тому було видано наказ про евакуацію мешканців канадського міста Осойос та його околиць.
Вогонь на великій швидкості наближається до канадського кордону з боку Вашингтона. За даними Служби боротьби з лісовими пожежами Британської Колумбії, наразі полум’я знаходиться в радіусі чотирьох кілометрів від міста Осойос.
Вогонь горить на площі близько 200 гектарів з канадського боку кордону та двох тисячах гектарів з боку США.
Осойос і регіональний округ Оканаган-Сімілкамін видали попередження про потенційну загрозу життю й здоров’ю мешканців.
Наказ про евакуацію стосується території на північ від кордону США та Канади до перетину шосе 97 і 3, а також на захід та північ уздовж шосе 3, повідомляє Reuters.
У Канаді цього року згоріло шість мільйонів гектарів лісу, через полум’я свої домівки були змушені покинути понад сто тисяч людей.

Лісові пожежі, які вирують у різних частинах Греції, було взято під контроль, жодному населеному пункту не загрожує небезпека, заявила влада країни.
Попри те, що полум’я вдалося приборкати, Служба цивільного захисту та метеорологічна служба попередили, що ризик загорання залишається надзвичайно високим через температуру повітря 47°С.
На популярному серед туристів острові Родос з вогнем боролися тисячі пожежників та волонтерів. Пожежа наблизилася й загрожувала селам Геннаді та Ваті на південному сході острова. Протягом вихідних довелось евакуювати понад 20 тисяч туристів і місцевих жителів.
Як повідомив речник пожежної служби Греції Йоанніс Артопойош, хоча ситуація під контролем, «небезпека ще не минула». Він нагадав, що з 12 липня – протягом двох тижнів – лісові пожежі виникли майже на 500 локаціях, а боротьба з вогнем обійшлася країні приблизно в 7,5 млн євро.
Улітку лісові пожежі в Греції не рідкість, але через зміну клімату, дедалі більш спекотну й вітряну погоду та посуху стихія в останні роки була надзвичайно руйнівною в країні.
За даними Служба моніторингу атмосфери «Коперник» (CAMS), з першого липня внаслідок лісових пожеж у Греції в атмосферу було викинуто одну мегатонну (один мільйон кілограмів) вуглецю, що майже вдвічі більше за попередній рекорд, зафіксований у липні 2007 року.
