A közszolgáltatásokra és bizonyos élelmiszerekre is forgalmi adót vetne ki a kolumbiai kormány, ezek ellen tüntetnek több ezren immár negyedik napja az országban. A tiltakozások néhol erőszakba torkollottak: volt, ahol a tüntetők buszokat gyújtogattak. Eddig hat halálos áldozatról lehet tudni.
Először szerdán szólították az utcára az embereket a szakszervezetek az ellen tiltakozva, hogy a kormány az adórendszer átalakításával közszolgáltatásokra és bizonyos élelmiszerekre is forgalmi adót vetne ki. Caliban voltak a legerőszakosabbak a megmozdulások. Rendbontók fosztogattak és buszokat is felgyújtottak. Carlos Camargo, Kolumbia emberi jogi ombudsmanja arról számolt be, hogy Caliban legalább hárman meghaltak, további három halálesetet pedig vizsgálnak. Bogotában és Neivában is volt egy-egy halálos áldozat. A tiltakozásokon emellett 176 civil és 216 rendőr megsérült.
Ivan Duque kolumbiai elnök szombat este bejelentette, hogy a katonaság fog segítséget nyújtani azoknak a városoknak, ahol a legrosszabb a helyzet.
Szombaton annak ellenére vonultak utcára a tiltakozók, hogy pénteken az elnök bejelentette, hogy az élelmiszerek és a rezsiköltségek megadóztatásától eláll a kormány és a jövedelemadót sem emelik. De a kabinet kitart amellett, hogy adóreformra van szükség, hogy az ország stabilizálni tudja pénzügyeit, megtartsa jelenlegi adósbesorolását, és fenntartsa a szociális juttatások szintjét.

Kolumbiában tízezrek vonultak utcára, hogy a kormány tervezett adóreformja ellen tüntessenek, a zavargásokba torkolló megmozdulásokon legalább két ember meghalt, további 44 megsérült, 26-ot pedig őrizetbe vettek.
Több városban mintegy 50 ezren vonultak az utcákra, hogy tiltakozzanak az adóreform ellen, amelynek célja, hogy adókedvezményeket csökkentsen, és növelje a jövedelemadót egyes csoportok esetében, illetve eltörölje az adómentességet számos áru és szolgáltatás esetében. A kormány így próbálná kompenzálni a koronavírus-járvány által okozott államháztartási hiányt.

A hatóságokra hivatkozó csütörtöki hírügynökségi jelentések szerint a tiltakozásokon jelentős anyagi kár is keletkezett, autókat és autóbuszokat, illetve buszmegállókat rongáltak meg.A helyzet a délnyugat-kolumbiai Caliban volt a legfeszültebb, ahol misak őslakosok egy csoportja ledöntötte a várost alapító Sebastián de Belalcázar spanyol konkvisztádor szobrát. Jorge Iván Ospina, Cali polgármestere kiállt a tüntetéshez való jog mellett, mindazonáltal sajnálatát fejezte ki a vandalizmus miatt.

A polgármester szerint a város keleti részén egy ember meghalt a tüntetésekhez köthető, de egyelőre tisztázatlan események közepette. Egy másik ember a Huila megye székhelyén, Neivában tartott tiltakozásokon halt meg, az előzetes feltételezések szerint epilepsziás roham miatt.
Daniel Palacios belügyminiszter tájékoztatása szerint a tüntetéseken 44 rendőr megsérült, 30 közülük Caliban.
Huszonhat embert vettek őrizetbe hat városban, közülük 19-et a fővárosban, Bogotában – tette hozzá.
A rendőrség és a kormány egyelőre nem számolt be civil áldozatokról, de a Campana Defender la Libertad nevű helyi jogvédő szervezet négy halottról és csaknem 50 sérültről tájékoztatott. Bogotában ismeretlenek megtámadták az RCN Televisión nevű kolumbiai kereskedelmi televízió és a hozzá tartozó NTN24 nemzetközi televíziós csatorna épületeit. A csatornák igazgatói közleményükben elítélték a támadást.

Új alakulatot hozott létre a kolumbiai hadsereg a kokacserje-ültetvények, a kokaintermelés és az illegális bányászat felszámolására, illetve az e tevékenységekből bevételekhez jutó illegális fegyveres csoportokkal szembeni fellépésre.
A CONAT nevű alakulat létrehozásával párhuzamosan az ország vezetése tervet készített arra, hogy március végén növényirtó szerekkel, glifozáttal megpermetezi, tönkreteszi a kolumbiai kokaültetvényeket, amennyiben azt az alkotmánybíróság jóváhagyja.
Az egységet azért hozták létre, hogy lecsapjon: elnyomja és felszámolja a kábítószer-kereskedők alakulatait, az illegális bányászathoz kapcsolódó határokon átnyúló fenyegetéseket, vadak, illetve emberek csempészését és a nemzetközi terrorizmus megnyilvánulási formáit – jelentette ki Iván Duque elnök a Tolemaida katonai bázison tartott beszédében.
Az évtizedek óta tartó drogellenes műveletek ellenére a latin-amerikai ország továbbra is a világ egyik legnagyobb kokaintermelőjének számít. Az ENSZ Kábítószer- és Szervezett Bűnözés Elleni Hivatala (UNODC) szerint 2019-ben 154 ezer hektárnyi kokainültetvény volt Kolumbiában, ami hozzávetőleg 1137 tonna kokain előállítását teszi lehetővé. A múlt évre még nincsenek nemzetközi adatok, de a hadsereg közlése szerint 130 ezer hektár kokaültetvényt számoltak fel és 500 tonna kokaint foglaltak le.
Kolumbia 2015-ben felfüggesztette a glifozáttal történő légi permetezést, mert az ENSZ Egészségügyi Világszervezete (WHO) kutatási eredmények alapján rákkeltőnek nyilvánította ezt a módszert.

Legalább 40 jogvédőt öltek meg Kolumbiában júliustól és szeptemberig – derül ki a Somos Defensores (Jogvédők vagyunk) nevű nem kormányzati ernyőszervezet által csütörtökön bemutatott tanulmányból. A jelentés szerint az említett időszakban 184 erőszakcselekményt jegyzett fel 182 jogvédővel szemben. A tavalyi évnek ugyanebben az időszakában 183 ilyen eset történt.
A 182 sértett személy közül 88 ismeretlen elkövetőktől (48 százalék), 54 félkatonai csoportoktól (30 százalék), 20-at a Kolumbiai Forradalmi Fegyveres Erők (FARC) nevű egykori gerillaszervezet támadott meg, 11-et a Nemzeti Felszabadítási Hadsereg (ELN) nevű gerillaszervezet, 8 rendvédelmi szervektől, egy pedig az ügyészségtől szenvedett el valamilyen formában agressziót.
A szervezet az említett időszakban 121 fenyegetést, 17 merényletet, öt eltűnést és egy bírósági ügyet jegyzett fel.
A Somos Defensores az év első kilenc hónapjában 135 gyilkosságot jegyzett fel.

A kolumbiai rendőrök, az FBI és más szervezetek segítségével, egy hét alatt több mint kilenc tonna kábítószert foglaltak le az országban, és megsemmisítették az elosztók két útvonalát is.
Francisco Barbosa, a latin-amerikai ország főügyészének tájékoztatása szerint több embert letartóztattak, és megsemmisítettek két, fegyveres csoportok által használt leszállópályát is Uribia és la Guajira megyékben. Hozzátette, a műveletekben részt vett egyebek közt az Egyesült Államok Szövetségi Nyomozó Irodája (FBI) is. This evening Ceres Engine 15, Ceres Battalion Chief 3, and Modesto Truck 1 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with pin-in at the Shell station on 4th Street. Initial reports were that a car and gas pump were on fire and people were trapped in the car. Battalion Chief 3 upgraded the incident to a potential structure fire, bringing Ceres Engine 18 to the scene.Crews arrived and found a car that had come off of Highway 99, struck a gas pump, and caught fire.
