A monszunesők okozta áradások végigsöpörtek a dél-pakisztáni utcákon, egy autópályát lezártak az ország északi területén − közölték hétfőn a hatóságok, miközben az esőzések halálos áldozatainak száma július 1-je óta 209-re emelkedett, számolt be róla az AP News. Az elmúlt 24 órában Pandzsáb tartományban tizennégy ember halt meg − nyilatkozta Irfan Ali, a tartományi katasztrófavédelmi hatóság tisztviselője.
Pakisztánban az éves monszunszezon júliustól szeptemberig tart. Tudósok és meteorológusok az éghajlatváltozást okolják az utóbbi évek hevesebb esőzéseiért. 2022-ben a heves esőzések az ország egyharmadát elárasztották, 1739 ember halálát okozták, és 30 milliárd dolláros kárt okoztak.
Zahír Ahmed Babar, a pakisztáni meteorológiai hivatal vezetője szerint a felhőszakadások ezen a héten is folytatódni fognak az ország egyes részein. Dél-Pakisztánban a lezúduló esővíz elárasztotta az utcákat a Szindh tartománybeli Szukkur körzetében.
A hatóságok közölték, hogy erőfeszítéseket tesznek a kulcsfontosságú északi Karakorum autópálya megtisztítására a földcsuszamlásoktól. A hirtelen áradások néhány hidat is megrongáltak északon, zavarva a közlekedést. A kormány emiatt azt tanácsolta a turistáknak, hogy kerüljék el az érintett területeket.
A Nemzeti Katasztrófavédelmi Hatóság közlése szerint július 1-je, a monszun esőzések kezdete óta több mint 2200 ház rongálódott meg Pakisztán-szerte. A szomszédos Afganisztánban május óta szintén voltak esőzések és árvíz okozta károk, több mint 80 ember vesztette életét. A tartományi rendőrség szerint vasárnap három ember meghalt, amikor Ghazniban az árvíz elsodorta a járművüket.

Három eltűnt orosz hegymászó után indítottak kutatást a pakisztáni hatóságok a Föld egyik legmagasabb hegycsúcsán.
A 7925 méteres Gasherbrun IV-et egy ötfős csapat mászta meg, hogy megkeresse és lehozza az egy éve ott szerencsétlenül járt Dmitrij Golovcsenko holttestét. A csapat Szergej Nyilov vezetésével indult útnak, akinek mászótársaként Golovcsenko a mélybe zuhant 2023. augusztus 31-én, s az eltűntek között van most maga Nyilov is.
A világ 17. legmagasabb csúcsára tartva a csapat bajba került, s a szombaton indított mentőakcióban két alpinistát sikerült élve lehozni. A pakisztáni hegyimentők vasárnap is folytatták a kutatást a három eltűnt után.
Vakmerő, járatlan utakon tett expedícióikért mind Golovcsenko, mind Nyilov kétszer is elnyerte a hegymászás Oscar-díjának számító Arany Jégcsákány-díjat.

A pakisztáni egészségügyi minisztérium pénteken megerősítette, hogy a három, majomhimlő gyanújával vizsgált páciens közül, akik az Egyesült Arab Emírségből tértek haza, legalább egynél valóban igazolták a betegséget.
A tárca közleményében hozzáfűzte, hogy azt még vizsgálják, hogy a mpox vírus melyik variánsa fertőzte meg a beteget.
A korábbi variánsoknál könnyebben fertőző és súlyosabb tünetekkel járó Mpox-Klade I vírusváltozat megjelenése világszerte aggodalmat okoz.
Pénteken Pakisztán északi, Hajber-Pahtunhva tartományának egészségügyi hivatala jelentette, hogy az Egyesült Arab Emírségből érkezett három személynél észlelték a majomhimlő tüneteit. A tartomány egészségügyi szolgáltatásainak igazgatója elmondta, hogy a három pácienst karanténba helyezték.
Az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO) szerdán jelentett be globális közegészségügyi veszélyhelyzetet egy új majomhimlő-járvány terjedése miatt, amelyet az Mpox-Klade I vírusváltozat okoz.
A Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaságban 2023 januárja óta a majomhimlő-járvány miatt 27 ezer megbetegedést és több mint 1100 halálesetet jelentettek. Az új vírusvariáns már Ugandában, Ruandában, Burundiban és Kenyában is megjelent, és csütörtökön Svédországból jelentették az Mpox-Klade vírusváltozat első megerősített, Afrikán kívüli esetét.

Tüntetők ellopták a pakisztáni főkonzulátus egyik zászlaját Frankfurtban – közölte vasárnap a német rendőrség.
A tüntetést „A pakisztáni hadsereg és titkosszolgálatok rendszeresen gyilkolnak politikai ellenfeleket és bírálókat” jeligével tartották.
A német hatóságok szerint a mintegy 400 tiltakozó közül több férfi kivált, a diplomáciai képviseletet védő kerítésen át behatoltak a főkonzulátus területére, majd elvegyültek a tömegben a meglovasított zászlóval, amelynek továbbra sem lelték nyomát.
Az ügyben a német állambiztonsági szolgálat indított nyomozást.
A rendvédelmi szerveknek több tiltakozót el kellett távolítaniuk a területről, később pedig feloszlatták a teljes tüntetést.
Iszlámábád elítélte a megfogalmazása szerint szélsőségesek bandája által elkövetett incidenst. A pakisztáni külügyminisztérium egyben felszólította a német hatóságokat, hogy vonják felelősségre az elkövetőket, de a biztonsági hiányosságért felelősöket is. A tárca a történtekkel összefüggésben kudarcról beszélt, arról, hogy nem sikerült biztosítani a diplomáciai képviselet sérthetetlenségét és biztonságát.
„Az állambiztonság mindent megtesz, hogy ezt a cselekményt felderítsék” – hangsúlyozta a frankfurti rendőrség szóvivője a dpa német hírügynökségnek nyilatkozva. A tiltakozó akciót német rendőrök biztosították.

2024 első hat hónapjában hét újságírót öltek meg Pakisztánban – ez már a teljes év tekintetében is rekord lenne, azonban az esztendő fele még hátra van, számolt be a The Guardian.
A legutóbbi áldozat Halil Dzsibran júniusban vesztette életét. Dzsibran egy, az Afganisztánnal szomszédos Hajber–Pahtunvhai sajtóklub elnöke volt, akit két támadó autójából rángatott ki, majd lőtt le. Egy újságíró-gyilkosságokat vizsgáló szervezet munkatársa, Adil Dzsavad szerint a hét halálesetből legalább négy esetében az újságírók hivatásával állt kapcsolatban a gyilkosság.
Az utóbbi években Pakisztánban egyre nagyobb jelentőségre tesz szert a polgári újságírás, köszönhetően a közösségi média növekvő szerepének, valamint az országon belüli romló biztonságnak és a jogállamiság romlásának.
Az újságírók szabadságát szorgalmazó Freedom Network szerint 2012 és 2022 között 53 újságírót öltek meg hasonló indítékkal, ám csak két elkövetőt büntettek meg. Idén májusban halt meg Naszrullah Gadani, aki híres volt a földbirtokosok számonkéréséről. Testvére, Jakoob Gadani szerint Halid Lund, egy szindhi parlamenti képviselő áll a gyilkosság mögött – a politikus tagadta a vádakat. Gadani halála előtt három nappal egy másik írót, Kamran Davart ölték meg Hajber-Pahtunvhaiban.
Pakisztán egyre rosszabb helyet foglal el a Riporterek Határok Nélkül (Reporters Without Borders) által vezetett World Press Freedom Indexen. 2024-ben a közel-keleti ország két helyet esett vissza, 152. a 180-ból. Leírása szerint az egyik legveszélyesebb ország újságíróknak, évente három-négy olyan gyilkossággal, amelyek korrupcióval vagy emberkereskedelemmel kapcsolatosak, és amelyek elkövetői nem kerülnek törvény elé.

A Gilgit-Baltisztán tartomány északi részén fekvő Szkardu közelében több hegyi falu lakóit költöztették biztonságosabb vidékekre, miután az árvíz lerombolta a házukat és a vetést – közölte Harún Gul, a helyi mentőszolgálatok képviselője.
A tartomány a Himalája és a Karakorum-hegység között fekszik, több mint 3000 gleccsertó található a térségben, az ENSZ Fejlesztési Alapja (UNDP) szerint több, mint bárhol a világban.
Harún Gul elmondta, hogy a mentés a hét végén kezdődött, és hétfőig tartott.
Pakisztánnak, az éghajlatváltozással szemben az egyik legérzékenyebb országnak a nagy részén heves hőhullámok voltak, egyes területeken a hőmérséklet elérte az 50 Celsius-fokot is.
Az elhúzódó hőség, illetve a jövő hetekre vonatkozó előrejelzésekben szereplő heves esőzések további gleccsertóáradásokat okozhatnak a hegységekben – figyelmeztetett a nemzeti katasztrófaelhárítási hivatal.

Legkevesebb 27 ember halt meg egy közúti balesetben Pakisztán délnyugati részén, amikor egy Kvettába tartó autóbusz defektet kapott a rendkívüli hőség miatt, és szakadékba zuhant – közölték szerdán a helyi hatóságok.
A busz kora reggel, a Beludzsisztán tartománybeli Vasukban sodródott le az útról a szakadékba. A halálos áldozatok között nők és gyerekek is voltak – nyilatkozta a sajtónak Aszmat Ullah helyi illetékes.
Hozzátette: a túlélőket, legkevesebb 22 embert a közeli kórházba szállították, többen közülük életveszélyes állapotban vannak.
Pakisztánban az elmúlt két hétben a hőhullám miatt egyes városokban 50 Celsius-fok fölötti hőmérsékletet is mértek. Az extrém hőség még legalább egy hétig tarthat – jósolta az ország meteorológia szolgálatának vezetője.
A hőség miatt a dél-ázsiai országban számos baleset történt, de az utak rossz állapota, és a nem megfelelően karbantartott járművek, valamint a gyenge biztonsági rendszer is több ezer ember életét követeli évente a kormány statisztikai adatai szerint.

Fegyveresek elraboltak egy magas rangú bírót Pakisztán északnyugati részén, miközben az afgán határ melletti Dera Iszmail Hán körzet felé tartott – közölte egy rendőrségi tisztségviselő vasárnap.
Mintegy 15 motoros ütött rajta a bíró járművén, az autót felgyújtották, a sofőrt nem bántották, majd elhajtottak a bíróval – közölte a pakisztáni rendőrségi egyik tisztségviselője.
A szombat este történt emberrablás elkövetőjeként még egyetlen szervezet sem jelentkezett, de valószínűleg a Tehrík-i-Talibán Pakisztán (TTP) nevű iszlamista milícia felelős a támadásért, amelynek ebben a tartományban van a központja.
Pakisztán északnyugati részén szokatlan, hogy fegyveresek egy magas rangú bírót vesznek célba, aki általában szigorú biztonsági intézkedések mellett utazik. A milíciák eddig általában a rendfenntartó erők tagjait vagy különböző létesítményeket támadtak meg.
A pakisztáni rendőrség közölte, hogy hajtóvadászatot indítottak az emberrablók után, és egy terrorizmusellenes egység is csatlakozott a nyomozáshoz.
A tálibok rendszeresen megtámadják a biztonsági erőket az Afganisztánnal határos északnyugati országrészben. A pakisztáni tisztségviselők szerint a lázadók afgán területről indítják támadásaikat, de Kabul tagadja, hogy tudna ezek előkészületéről. Az utóbbi hónapokban több támadást követtek el, mint korábban, és a legtöbb esetért a TTP volt a felelős.
A TTP Kabultól függetlenül működik, de szövetségese az afgán táliboknak, akik 2021 augusztusában magukhoz ragadták a hatalmat Afganisztánban, amikor az amerikai és NATO-csapatok kivonultak az országból.
