Сильна спека призвела до загибелі мільйонів риб у річці Дарлінг у селі Менінді, Новий Південний Уельс, Австралія. На кадрах видно, що мертва риба, яка вкриває поверхню води, робить майже неможливим пересування на моторних човнах. Перше повідомлення про ситуацію на Дарлінгу надійшло в п’ятницю вранці за місцевим часом. В основному загинув оселедець, але були знайдені й більші риби, зокрема тріска, окунь та короп.
Масову загибель риби спричинила руйнівна спека. Річки в регіоні нагріваються до 42°С, тепла вода містить менше кисню, тож риба, яка в таких умовах потребує його ще більше, задихається.
Місцеві жителі кажуть, що це наймасовіша загибель риби, яка коли-небудь траплялася в їхньому селі, хоча подібні випадки на Дарлінгу спостерігаються вже протягом трьох років. Грем МакКрабб, мешканець Менинді, села з населенням близько 500 осіб, розповів ВВС, що передбачається загибель ще більшої кількості риби. Адже через туші, які плавають у річці, кисню у воді стає дедалі менше. Сморід від риб’ячих тіл, що розкладаються на 42-градусній спеці, робить ситуацію ще гіршою. «Не кажучи вже про те, що ми, місцеві жителі, використовуємо річкову воду для прання і прибирання, тому тепер люди не можуть робити навіть ці елементарні речі», – сказав він.

Смерть констатували після того, як тіло дівчинки витягли з річки Свон в околицях міста Перт у суботу.
Як повідомляють, дівчина каталася з друзями на водних мотоциклах на річці, коли сталася трагедія.
Інспектор Пол Робінсон з поліції Західної Австралії сказав, що, можливо, дівчина стрибнула у воду, щоб поплавати з дельфінами, яких бачили поблизу.
Він описав інцидент як „дуже, дуже травматичний”, а сім’я дівчини була „абсолютно спустошена новиною”.
Людей закликали бути „надзвичайно обережними” та дотримуватися заборони купатися на закритих пляжах.
За словами Робінсона, експерти з рибальства кажуть, що акули у цій частині річки бувають вкрай рідко.
Вважається, що це перший смертельний напад акули у річці Свон після смерті 13-річного хлопчика в січні 1923 року.
В Австралії зазвичай реєструють близько 20 нападів акул щороку, причому більшість у Новому Південному Уельсі та Західній Австралії.
У 2021 році було два смертельних напади акул, а в 2020 році – сім.
Зазвичай смерть від укусу акули не є поширеною. За даними понад сторічних спостережень, рівень смертності від нападу акул в Австралії становить менше однієї людини на рік.

У середу, після майже тижневих пошуків уздовж 1400-кілометрової автомагістралі, австралійська поліція знайшла зниклу раніше радіоактивну капсулу – повідомив керівник місцевого управління з питань надзвичайних ситуацій.
Міністр Стівен Доусон (Stephen Dawson) повідомив, що армія оглядає радіологічний пристрій, і в четвер його буде перевезено до безпечного об’єкту в Перті. Політик підкреслив, що з огляду на розміри досліджуваної території, знайти об’єкт – величезне завдання. Пошукові команди дійсно знайшли голку в копиці сіна – додав він.
„ Випромінювання капсули було виявлено з оснащеного спеціальним детектором автомобіля, який рухався зі швидкістю 70 кілометрів на годину” – заявили в Управлінні з надзвичайних ситуацій штату Західна Австралія. Після цього співробітники відомства, фахівці з радіації та інші особи прочесали обрану ділянку шосе в пошуках крихітної капсули, яка загубилася під час транспортування.
Капсула була частиною приладу, який використовувався для вимірювання щільності подачі залізної руди з шахти Гудай-Даррі компанії Rio Tinto в штаті Кімберлі. Вантаж призначався для об’єкта на околиці Перта – відстань більша, ніж перетин Британії з півночі на південь.
Зникнення капсули було помічено 25 січня, коли вантаж прибув до місця призначення – на склад. Офіційні особи заявили, що капсула, ймовірно, випала з вантажівки на узбіччя дороги.
Він додав, що малоймовірно, що забруднення вплинуло на цю територію.
Срібна капсула діаметром 6 міліметрів і довжиною 8 міліметрів містить цезій-137, який випромінює радіацію, еквівалентну 10 рентгенам на годину.

В австралійському штаті Квінсленд два гелікоптери зіштовхнулися біля морського тематичного парку, в результаті чого загинули щонайменше четверо осіб, ще троє людей отримали тяжкі травми.
Про це повідомляє Sky News.
Інцидент стався неподалік тематичного парку Sea World на Золотому узбережжі близько 14:00 за місцевим часом, коли у парку відпочивали родини.
Виконуючий обов’язки інспектора поліції Гері Ворелл сказав, що за попередньою інформацією один із гелікоптерів під час зіткнення злітав, а інший приземлявся.
Поліція Квінсленда повідомила, що чотири людини загинули, ще троє отримали важкі поранення.
Служба швидкої допомоги Квінсленду заявила, що загалом на місці події є 13 пацієнтів.
На місце аварії відправили слідчих.

Тим часом хакери вже опублікували деякі особисті дані клієнтів Medibank. Страхова компанія очікує, що це відбуватиметься щодня, адже Medibank не планує «платити хакерам викуп».
Австралія продовжує санкції проти рф та Білорусі. Так, уряд країни подовжив дію чинного 35% мита на імпорт російських і білоруських товарів до жовтня 2023 року. Окрім того, експортна кредитна агенція країни Export Finance Australia відхилятиме будь-які запити на позики чи інші види фінансування компаній, які торгують з росією чи Білоруссю.

Тисячі людей були змушені покинути свої домівки на південному сході Австралії через повінь.
Влада закликала до евакуації всього населення двох населених пунктів – Форбс та Вагга-Вагга у штаті Новий Південний Уельс, загалом близько 9 тисяч людей.
Мер містечка Вагга-Вагга Філліс Міллер в інтерв’ю радіо ABC повідомила, що через повінь річки Мурамбіджі вода вже досягла вітрин у центрі міста, що спричинило певну паніку.
«Коли впаде рівень води, поки невідомо», – додала вона.
Рятувальники за допомогою гелікоптерів також врятували понад тисячу овець, які через повінь опинилися в пастці в загоні біля міста Форбс.
Влада попередила, що очікується зростання цін на овочі та фрукти через затоплення сільськогосподарських угідь, що ще більше посилить інфляцію, яка вже спричиняє труднощі.
Метеорологічна служба ще у вересні попередила, що в Тихому океані розвивається погодний феномен Ла-Нінья, який спричинить значну кількість опадів у східній частині Австралії.
В адміністративному центрі штату Новий Південний Уельс, м. Сідней, у жовтні через значну кількість опадів був побитий рекорд 1950 року, а 2022 рік став найбільш вологим роком в історії найбільшого міста Австралії.

Річки, що розлилися через рясні опади, затопили будинки в містах у південно-східній частині Австралії. Очікується, що рівень води залишатиметься небезпечно високим і протягом наступних днів. У штаті Вікторія тисячі людей залишилися без світла.
На північному заході Мельбурна 70 людей були змушені залишити свої будинки через повені. Влада в Беналлі та Веддерберні, штат Вікторія, порадила сотням людей евакуюватися з дому.
У штаті Вікторія затопило пів тисячі будинків, ще п’ятсот ізольовано від зовнішнього світу, заявив прем’єр-міністр штату Деніел Ендрюс. Він додав, що, виходячи з метеорологічних прогнозів, погода буде дощовою і протягом наступних тижнів, очікується подальше затоплення.
Ендрюс також повідомив, що знеструмлено 4700 домогосподарств.
Згідно з повідомленням служби з надзвичайних ситуацій, за останні 48 годин із підтоплених районів врятовано більше сотні людей.
Через повінь річки Лаклан у Новому Південному Уельсі відрізаними опинилися кількасот людей. А в Тасманії людям, які живуть на північному узбережжі, довелося перебратися на височину через підвищення рівня річки.
Метеорологічна служба ще у вересні попередила, що в Тихому океані розвивається погодний феномен Ла-Нінья, який пов’язаний із значною кількістю опадів у східній частині Австралії.
Минулого тижня в Сіднеї кількість опадів побила рекорд 1950 року, а 2022 рік став найбільш дощовим роком в історії найбільшого міста Австралії.
