Victor Manuel Rocha bűnösnek vallotta magát „egy külföldi kormány illegális ügynökeként” és az Egyesült Államok kormányának becsapásában.
A 73 éves Rochát tavaly decemberben tartóztatták le, mert az amerikai tisztviselők szerint „az Egyesült Államok kormányába egy külföldi ügynök által elkövetett egyik legnagyobb kiterjedésű és leghosszabb ideig tartó beszivárgás volt”.
Öt év börtönbüntetése ítélik külföldi kormány ügynökeként való összeesküvés vádjával, valamint 10 év börtönbüntetésre, külföldi ügynökként való kémkedés miatt. Ezen kívül 500 000 dolláros pénzbírság is sújtja a volt nagykövetet.
A miami bírósági meghallgatásokon Rocha elismerte, hogy teljes felelősséget vállalt, amire a bíró megjegyezte: „Újra és újra hátat fordított ennek az országnak.”
Rocha honosított amerikai állampolgár Kolumbiából, és 2000 és 2002 között bolíviai nagykövetként szolgált.

Legalább egy halálos áldozata és több sérültje van az Egyesült Államok déli államain végigsöprő viharoknak. Louisianában tornádók pusztítottak, a hatóságok szerint tíz embert vittek kórházba. Texasban szintén tornádó pusztított, az állam keleti részén pedig egy egész település vált megközelíthetetlenné a villámárvizek miatt.
Felismerhetetlenné vált az egyik texasi üzlet a tornádó pusztítása után. Az épület egyik fele kártyavár módjára omlott össze az orkánerejű szél hatására. A falak egy része eltűnt, a tető néhány darabja pedig leszakadt.
Rendkívül heves viharok söpörtek végig az Egyesült Államok legdélebbi államán.
Rengeteg épület rongálódott meg, és több mint százezren maradtak áram nélkül.
„Reggel 7–8 óra körül kaptunk egy hívást, hogy az egyik éttermünk megsérült. A szél a mi tetőnkre fújta a szomszéd utca törmelékeit, körülbelül 150 kilométer/órás széllökések voltak. Több lyuk is keletkezett a tetőn” – panaszolta az egyik károsult.
Ennél is súlyosabb gondot jelentenek az állam keleti részét sújtó áradások. A meteorológiai szolgálat zivatarriadót adott ki nagy jégesőre és erős, károkat okozó szélre figyelmeztetve a texasiakat. Több település is víz alá került, sokakat ki kellett menteni az elárasztott otthonukból. Számos útszakaszt lezártak.
Hasonló a helyzet Louisianában, ahol szintén egyszerre pusztítottak tornádók és árvizek. Két forgószél is végigsöpört az államon.
Több otthon is összeomlott, de a kidőlt fák és a leszakadt villanyvezetékek is rengeteg kárt okoztak.
Közben az áradások miatt számtalan iskolában szünetel az oktatás. Van olyan település, ahol 30 centiméternyi eső hullott egyetlen óra alatt. Sokakat kórházba kellett vinni.
„Ez az egyik legsúlyosabban érintett terület a kerületünkben. Több mint 50 embert kellett evakuálnunk ebből az épületből, halálos áldozatok nincsenek, van néhány sérültünk. Egyszerűen elképesztő” – mondta a helyi rendőrfőnök.
Az ítéletidő más államokat is súlyosan érintett.
Mississippi államban, ahol már kedd óta tart a viharos időjárás, több mint 70 épület rongálódott meg, egy ember pedig meghalt.
A hatóságok emellett arra figyelmeztettek, hogy itt is lehetnek áradások.
A meteorológiai szolgálat szerint a rossz időnek még közel sincs végre. Ahogy a front Észak felé halad, a hét további felére további amerikai államokban is viharokat jósolnak.

Újabb lövöldözések voltak az Egyesült Államokban, két helyen is fegyverrel támadtak az emberekre. Washingtonban egy ember meghalt és öt megsebesült, amikor egy autóból kiszállva tüzet nyitottak rájuk. Philadelphiában pedig hárman megsérültek egy parkban történt lövöldözésben.
Rendőrök lepték el Washington északkeleti részének egyik utcáját. Lövöldözés történt szerdán estefelé. Sok gyerek még játszott a házak előtt, amikor egy autó megáll az utca közepén.
„A gyanúsítottak kiszálltak egy járműből és lövöldözni kezdtek az emberekre. Egy férfi a helyszínen meghalt, továbbá két férfi és egy nő lőtt sebekkel került a kórházba, csakúgy, mint egy kilenc és egy 12 éves fiú” – mondta Pamela Smith washingtoni rendőrfőnök. Az idősebb fiú életveszélyes állapotban van.
Pamela Smith aggodalmának adott hangot, hogy az utóbbi időben egyre több fegyver van a kerületben, és a bűnesetek száma is megnőtt.
Washingtonban a közelmúltban egy sor nagy visszhangot kiváltó autólopás és lövöldözés történt, köztük egy nappali incidens is: a Trump-kormányzat egyik korábbi tisztviselőjét, Mike Gillt lőtték le az autójában.
Philadelphiában egy parkban lövöldöztek. Szerdán kora délután több száz muzulmán család gyűlt össze, hogy együtt vegyenek részt a ramadán szent hónap végét jelző ünnepségen, amikor lövéseket lehetett hallani. A parkban pánik tört ki, mindenki elkezdett futni.
Kiderült, hogy két rivális csoport csapott össze, csaknem 30 lövés dördült el.
A közelben lévő rendőrök azonnal elfogtak három férfit és egy nőt, mindegyiküknél volt fegyver.
A park másik részéről egy másik rendőr is elfogott egy 15 éves fiút, és mivel lövéseket adott le, a rendőr rálőtt. A fegyveres fiú a vállán és a lábán sérült meg. Rajta kívül még ketten sérültek meg, de állapotuk stabil.
„Összesen öt embert tartóztattunk le. Négyet, akiknél fegyver volt, valamint egyet, akire egy rendőr rálőtt és eltalálta” – mondta Kevin Bethel philadelphiai rendőrfőnök. Az eddigi nyomozás szerint a lövöldözés nem függött össze a vallási ünnepséggel.

Tíz, illetve tizenöt év szabadságvesztést szabtak ki az Egyesült Államokban annak a korábban már életfogytiglani börtönbüntetésre ítélt tinédzsernek a szüleire, aki egy iskolai lövöldözés során négy embert megölt és hetet megsebesített Michigan államban 2021-ben.
Ez az első alkalom az Egyesült Államokban, hogy egy iskolai lövöldöző szüleit elmarasztalták. A pontiac-i bíróság azzal indokolta a döntést, hogy a szülők ismételten elmulasztottak megtenni olyan „tragikusan egyszerű lépéseket”, amelyekkel elejét lehetett volna venni a katasztrófának. Az ügyészek a tárgyaláson bizonyítékokat mutattak be arra vonatkozóan, hogy nem biztonságos körülmények között tárolták otthon az ámokfutáshoz használt lőfegyvert, és nem fordítottak figyelmet a gyerekük mentális állapotára.
Az anyát és az apát két külön eljárásban gondatlanságból elkövetett emberölés vádpontjában találták bűnösnek.
Az elkövetés idején 15 éves fiú 2021 novemberében az iskolában egy feladatlapra fegyvert, lövedéket és egy sebesült alakot rajzolt, illetve baljós, figyelmeztető mondatokat írt. Az ijesztő rajz miatt az iskola rövid konzultációra behívatta a szülőket, akik az eset miatt viszont nem vitték haza a gyereküket.
A fiú még aznap, néhány órával később fegyvert vett elő a hátizsákjából, és tüzet nyitott a társaira. A bíróság előtt bűnösnek vallotta magát, és jelenleg életfogytig tartó börtönbüntetését tölti.
A szülők ugyan nem tudtak arról, hogy a gyerekük, mire készül, de az ügyészek szerint mulasztást követtek el azzal, hogy nem zárták el otthon a fegyvert, illetve nem vitték el az iskolából a végzetes napon, miután fény derült a fegyvert ábrázoló rajzra. Hosszú időn át figyelmen kívül hagyták továbbá a fiú aggasztó mentális állapotára utaló jeleket, például a hallucinációkkal kapcsolatos panaszait.

Halálos áldozatokat követelt, valamint több mint félmillió fogyasztónál okozott áramszünetet az Egyesült Államok északkeleti államaiba érkezett, havazással járó viharzóna szerdán és csütörtökön.
Az érintett országrészben csütörtökön reggel mintegy 680 ezer háztartásban szünetelt az áramszolgáltatás, többek között azért, mert az erős szélben kidőlő fák vezetékeket szakítottak le. A leginkább érintett államok Maine és New Hampshire.
A meteorológiai szolgálat előrejelzése szerint az Új-Angliaként emlegetett északkeleti államok egyes helyein akár 60 centiméter friss hó is lehullhat, miközben a széllökések elérhetik az óránkénti csaknem 100 kilométeres sebességet.
Azokon a területeken, ahol a csapadék nem hó formájában hullik, az esőzés miatt áradásokra figyelmeztették a lakosságot.
Janet Mills, Maine állam kormányzója arra kérte a lakosságot, hogy aki teheti, ne mozduljon ki, mert veszélyesek az útviszonyok, illetve így is segíthetik a mentők és beavatkozó egységek mozgását. A havazás miatt számos baleset történt, az egyik ütközés miatt le kellett zárni Maine állam fontos autópályájának egy részét.
Még szerda este New York város közelében egy járműre dőlő fa az azt vezető nő halálát okozta. Szintén szerdán Philadelphia elővárosában ugyancsak autóra zuhanó fa ölt meg egy nőt.
Az évszakhoz képes szokatlanul komoly havazás érkezett az Egyesült Államok északi-középső részén fekvő Wisconsin és Michigan államokba is, helyenként 15-20 centiméternyi, magas víztartalmú, úgynevezett tapadó hóval.
Csütörtökön az ország középső részén már a károk felmérésén és a helyreállításon dolgoztak a hét elején Oklahoma, Kentucky, Tennessee és Georgia államokat sújtó viharok nyomán, amelyekben több helyütt tornádók is kialakultak.
Az ítéletidő főként épületekben okozott károkat, de Oklahoma államban, Tulsa városában egy 46 éves hajléktalan nő életét vesztette, mert a komoly esőzésben társával éjszakára egy csatornanyílás közelében húzta meg magát, ahol vízbe fulladt.

Hét, 12 és 17 év közötti kiskorú sebesült meg egy szombat éjszakai lövöldözésben Indianapolis belvárosában.
A Newsweek beszámolója szerint a környéken járőröző rendőrök figyeltek fel az egyik belvárosi pláza felől érkező lövések zajára éjjel 11 óra után.
A helyszínre érkezve „kiskorúak nagy csapatát” találták a pláza előtt, közül hatot lőtt sebekkel. A rendőrök elsősegélyben részesítették, a kiérkező mentők pedig kórházba szállították őket. A hetedik sebesült külön érkezett a kórházba.
Mind a hét gyerek állapota stabil, az eddigi vizsgálatok szerint nem csupán egyetlen fegyverből adták le a lövéseket.
Egyelőre senkit nem vettek őrizetbe.
Vasárnapig már majdnem négyezer ember vesztette életé az Egyesült Államokban lőfegyvertől és majdnem hétezer megsebesült. Az idén eddig 88 tömeglövöldözés volt az országban.

Az amerikai igazságszolgáltatás bejelentette, hogy le akar foglalni két New York-i luxuslakást, amely egy korrupcióval gyanúsított volt mongol miniszterelnök tulajdonában van.
Az amerikai igazságügyi minisztérium a bírósághoz benyújtott keresetben, amelyről kedden sajtóközleményben számoltak be, azzal vádolja Szühbátarín Batboldot, hogy tisztségét felhasználva több millió dollárnak megfelelő kenőpénzért cserébe bányászati szerződéseket ítélt oda vállalkozásoknak Mongóliában.
A gyanú szerint ebből a bevételből 14 millió dollárt arra költött, hogy két lakást vásároljon Manhattan előkelő negyedeiben, Midtownban és az Upper East Side-on – közölte a minisztérium.
Breon Peace New York-i kerületi ügyész a közleményben azt írta: „A mai lefoglalási eljárás üzenet a korrupt vezetőknek, ne használják ingatlanpiacunkat arra, hogy elrejtsék bűncselekményeikből származó bevételeiket”.
Mongólia, a Kína és Oroszország között fekvő ország gazdag szén-, fém- és egyéb ásványkincsekben. Az évek óta tartó bányászati fellendülés segített csökkenteni a történelmileg magas szegénységi rátát, de az elit korrupcióját is táplálta, ami társadalmi zavargásokat váltott ki.
A 60 éves Szühbátarín Batbold 2009 és 2012 között volt miniszterelnök, jelenleg pedig a kormánypártot képviseli a parlamentben. Nevét a „Panama-iratok” és a „Pandora-iratok” című, az Oknyomozó Újságírók Nemzetközi Konzorciumának (ICIJ) két nyomozása említette, amelyekben részletesen bemutatták a politikusok és gazdag magánszemélyek offshorebefektetéseit minden ágazatból.

Szokatlanul erős tavaszi havazás és hófúvások miatt időjárási riasztást adtak ki az Amerikai Egyesült Államok északi területeinek nagy részére, valamint egyes déli államokra is.
Kalifornia és Nevada állam határvidékén a Sierra Nevada hegységben óránkénti 150 kilométer sebességű szelet jeleztek, 30 centimétert meghaladó friss hóval. A télies időjárási viszonyokra vonatkozó figyelmeztetés Arizona és Új-Mexikó állam északi területeire is érvényes hétfőig.
A vihar az ország északi államaiban, Montana-tól, Minnesota-n, Wisconsin-on keresztül az északkeleti New Hampshire-ig, és Maine-ig érezteti hatását jelentősebb hóréteggel. A legnagyobb havazást északkeleten várják, egyes helyeken akár 60 centiméter friss hóval.
További északkeleti államokban a hidegfront esőzéssel érkezett meg szombaton, többi között New York egyes részein áradásra adtak ki figyelmeztetést.
Szombaton New York város repülőterein sok járatot törölni kellett.
A hidegfront érintette a főváros, Washington környékét is, ahol vasárnap a napsütés ellenére sem haladta meg a 10 fokot a csúcshőmérséklet, a hajnali órákban pedig erős fagyot tapasztaltak a helyiek.
Meteorológusok megjegyezték, hogy a komoly télies vihar ugyan szokatlan tavasszal, de az ország középső, északi államaiban, Minnesota és Wisconsin államokban az idén minden idők legenyhébb telét tapasztalták.
Az esős időjárás a hétvégén segítette Virginia állam hegyvidékén a kiterjedt erőtüzek oltását. A lángok az előző hét szeles és rendkívül száraz időjárásában keletkeztek az Appalache-hegység területén, a Shenandoah folyó völgyének közelében.
