A lyoni székhelyű szervezet tájékoztatása szerint az afrikai rendőrségi együttműködési szervezettel, az Afripollal közösen végrehajtott terrorelhárító razziákon Kenyában, Mozambikban, Tanzániában, valamint a Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaságban, Dzsibutiban, a Dél-afrikai Köztársaságban, Ugandában és Szomáliában vettek őrizetbe gyanúsítottakat, a legtöbbet – 17-et – Kenyában.
„Afrika keleti része meglehetősen összetett térség: a politikai bizonytalanság, a könnyen átjárható határok és a társadalmi-gazdasági kihívások továbbra is jó táptalajt biztosítanak a terrorista tevékenységnek” – szögezte le Cyril Gout, az Interpol elemzésért felelős igazgatója, hozzátéve: mivel az itt aktív terrorszervezetek igyekeznek terjeszkedni, nagyon fontos a bűnüldöző szervezetek közötti együttműködés.
Az Interpol közleménye szerint a szervezet bűnügyi nyilvántartásában jelenleg körülbelül 135 ezer terrorista szerepel – írta az MTI-re hivatkozva az Index.

Tizenkét gyermek és a sofőr meghalt, mert az iskolába tartó kisbusz összeütközött egy másik járművel szerdán Dél-Afrikában – közölte a déli Gauteng tartomány vezetése.
Hét további gyermek megsérült, őket kórházba szállították. A balesetben, amely Merafong városától mintegy 70 kilométerre nyugatra történt, a kisbusz felborult és kigyulladt. A történtekről készült felvételeken látszott, hogy a kisbusz teljesen megsemmisült a tűzben.
A Daily Post Nigeria szerint a sajtóközleményben Matome Chiloane, Gauteng tartomány oktatási minisztere azt mondta, hogy mélyen elszomorítja ez a tragikus esemény.
Gyermekeink elvesztése szörnyű csapás közösségünknek, gondolatban és lélekben együttérzünk az áldozatok családjaival.
Gauteng az ország legnépesebb tartománya, ahol Johannesburg és a főváros, Pretoria is található. Dél-Afrikában van a kontinens egyik legfejlettebb úthálózata, ennek ellenére az ország közlekedésbiztonsági mutatója az egyik legrosszabb.

Egy dühös elefántbika megtámadta a szafari parkban lévő turistákat Zambiában. Az egyik amerikai nő életét vesztette a támadásban. A tragikus eseményt a kamerák is rögzítették.
Hat turista vadászaton vett részt az afrikai Kafue Nemzeti Parkban. Egy feldühödött elefánt utánuk rohant. A videón látható, ahogy az egyik turista azt mondja, hogy „te jó ég”, miközben az elefánt majdnem utolérte az autót. Az elefánt utolérte őket és megtámadta a turistaautót.
A sofőr rájött, hogy ez nem csak riogatás az állat részéről, és az öt tonnás, három méter magas elefánt támadni készül.
Az állat agyarai beakadnak a szafari teherautó karosszériája alá és az oldalára borította azt. A turisták pánikba estek.
Azt, hogy az amerikai turista hogyan halt meg az incidens során, nem hozták nyilvánosságra.
A teherautón utazó összes turista amerikai volt, és a Lufupa River Campben szálltak meg a Kafue Nemzeti Parkban, amely a világ legrégebbi és második legnagyobb szafariparkja. A táborban 160 000 forintot kell fizetni személyenként egy éjszakára.
Keith Vincent, a park vezérigazgatója megerősítette, hogy egy 80 éves amerikai turista meghalt, egy másik súlyosan megsérült, négy másik turista pedig könnyebb sérüléseket szenvedett. „Egy elefántbika támadt a turistacsoportra. A súlyosan sérült turistát egy dél-afrikai kórházba szállították, a négy másikkal pedig pszichológus foglalkozik.”
Helikoptert küldtek a helyszínre, és az eset jellegére való tekintettel a rendőrség, a park munkatársai és a minisztérium is részt vesz az ügy kivizsgálásában.
A park igazgatója hozzátette: „Ez egy rendkívül tragikus esemény, és őszinte részvétünket fejezzük ki a turista családjának.”
Az elefántok becslések szerint évente 500 embert ölnek meg Afrikában.
Márciusban a dél-afrikai Gondwana Private Game Reserve 36 éves idegenvezetőjét ölte meg egy elefánt. Daniel Kandela azután halt meg, hogy találkozott a csorda utolsó, csoportjától elszakadt elefánttal – írta a Daily Mail.
Szintén márciusban egy másik dühös elefánt támadt rá egy turistabuszra Afrikában. A szafari vezetője el tudta kergetni az elefántot, így a busz utasai épségben megmenekültek.

Az Ketel-Afrikát hetek óta sújtó esőzésekben és áradásokban tovább emelkedett a halottak és a belső menekültek száma, a halálos áldozatoké már több mint kétszáz – közölték az érintett kormányok szerdán.
Az ENSZ humanitárius ügyeket koordináló hivatalának (OCHA) szerdai közlése szerint Szomáliában 96-ra nőtt a halottak száma, és csaknem 750 ezren hagyták el otthonukat.
A helyzet hasonlóan válságos a szomszédos országban, Kenyában, ahol Raymond Omollo belügyminiszter kedden legkevesebb 120 halálos áldozatról számolt be, és hozzátette, hogy mintegy 90 000 családot 120 ideiglenes táborban helyeztek el.
Az esők és áradások becslések szerint kétmillió embert érintenek közvetlenül az északkelet-afrikai régióban.
A segélyszervezetek már most arra figyelmeztetnek, hogy az érintett területeken folyamatosan növekszik a kolerás megbetegedések száma.
Az elmúlt években gyakran tört ki kolerajárvány Zimbabwéban, az elmúlt pedig hónapban ismét felerősödött és terjedni kezdett a fertőzés.
A folyamatos és állandó esők hátterében az El Nino időjárás jelenség áll. Az általában minden két-hét évben megfigyelhető jelenséget a trópusi óceán felmelegedése okozza, és a klíma megváltozását idézi elő több helyen: míg az aszályos területeken nagy mennyiségű eső esik, az egyébként esőben gazdag területeken szárazság uralkodik.
Az éghajlatkutatók szerint a globális felmelegedés is fokozza az El Nino szélsőségessé válását.
Az utóbbi években Szomália, Kenya északkeleti és Etiópia egyes részein súlyos aszály pusztít, miután a csapadékos évszakok, amelyek évente kétszer fordulnak elő, egymás után ötször maradtak el a régióban.

A Szudánban zajló fegyveres konfliktus egész Kelet-Afrikát humanitárius válságba sodorhatja – figyelmeztetett vasárnap az ENSZ Világélelmezési Programja (WFP).
„Az ország lakosságának harmada már az előtt is éhezett, hogy kitörtek a harcok, most pedig hiány van mindenből, és az árak az egekbe szöktek” – magyarázta a dpa német hírügynökségnek Martin Frick, a WFP németországi igazgatója.
Hasonló áremelkedés tapasztalható Csádban és Dél-Szudánban is, ahol sokan kerestek menedéket a harcok miatt. Frick szerint az egyes részein a klímaválság miatt áradások, máshol pedig aszály sújtotta Dél-Szudánban rövid idő leforgása alatt 28 százalékkal emelkedtek az élelmiszerárak.
Kifejtette, hogy Afrika szarván egyébként is katasztrofális az élelmiszerellátási helyzet, mert hat egymást követő esős évszak sem hozta meg a várt termést, s ezért „rekordfeszültség” tapasztalható az élelmiszerek piacán.
Közben a vöröskereszt tájékoztatása szerint megérkezett az országba az első segélyszállító repülőgép nyolc tonna rakománnyal a fedélzetén, benne orvosi eszközökkel és gyógyszerekkel is, amelyek 1500 ember ellátását teszik majd lehetővé. A gép a jordániai fővárosból, Ammánból indult és a Kartúmtól több mint 800 kilométerre lévő Port Szudánban szállt le.
A kelet-afrikai országban április közepén robbantak ki harcok a kormányerők és a velük szemben álló Gyorsreagálású Támogató Erők között (RSF).

Egy orosz férfi a ritka állatokat és rovarokat illegálisan csempészte be a Dél-afrikai Köztársaságból Moszkvába – közölte a Szövetségi Vámszolgálat sajtószolgálata. A férfit a domogyedovói repülőtéren vették őrizetbe.
A hivatal közlése szerint egy orosz állampolgár ritka kaméleonokat, párducvarangyokat, hosszúfarkú gyíkokat, psammodeseket, gombabogarakat, csótányokat és ezerlábúakat gyűjtött Afrikában, majd egy turista hátizsákba tette azokat. A repülőút során a hirtelen hőmérsékletváltozás miatt az állatok egy része elpusztult, a többit állatvédőknek adták át állatorvosi ellátásra és rehabilitációra – írta a Moslenta.
A fogvatartott férfi elmondása szerint a hozott állatokat otthon terráriumban akarta elhelyezni. A vámosok azonban kiderítették, hogy az orosz férfi el akarta adni az egzotikus állatokat, amelyek értékét most 200 ezer rubelre becsülik.
A nyugati törpekaméleonokat pedig a veszélyeztetett vadon élő állat- és növényfajok nemzetközi kereskedelméről szóló egyezmény szerint engedélyekkel kellett volna bejelenteni. A férfi ellen az orosz közigazgatási törvénykönyv szerint „az áruk bejelentésének elmulasztása vagy téves bejelentése” alapján közigazgatási jegyzőkönyvet állítottak ki.

Felkelők rohamoztak meg vasárnap egy kínai üzemeltetésű aranybányát a Közép-afrikai Köztársaságban, kilenc kínai állampolgár vesztette életét és ketten megsebesültek – közölték a helyi hatóságok.
A támadás mindössze napokkal azt követően követték el, hogy fegyveresek három kínai állampolgárt hurcoltak el az ország Kamerunnal közös határa közelében. A történtek nyomán Faustin Archange Touadéra elnök Kínába utazott a befektetők megnyugtatására.
A néhány napja megnyitott Chimbolo aranybányát a kora reggeli órákban érte támadás. A fegyveresek gyorsan legyűrték az őrszemélyzetet és tüzet nyitottak – ismertette Abel Matipata, a közeli Bambari település polgármestere.
„A kormánynak nehezére esik bizonyítani, hogy képes megvédeni a közép-afrikai lakosokat és az országban élő külföldieket” – mondta Ange Morel Gbatangue, Bambari egyik lakosa.
Bár eddig egyetlen szervezet sem jelentkezett elkövetőként, sokan a Hazafiak Szövetsége a Változásért nevű, térségben működő lázadószervezetet hibáztatják, amely Francois Bozizé elnökkel áll szövetségben.
A Közép-afrikai Köztársaságban 2012 végén az ország északkeleti, muszlim többségű térségéből származó Séléka milíciaszövetség tagjai elfoglalták Banguit, és megbuktatták a keresztény Francois Bozizé elnököt, polgárháborút robbantva ki az országban.
A Séléka ellen anti-Balaka néven keresztény milíciaszövetség alakult, amely azonban a Sélékához hasonlóan később számtalan fegyveres csoportosulásra töredezett.
A 2019-ben aláírt, történelmi jelentőségű békemegállapodás ellenére az aranyban és gyémántban gazdag ország területének nagy részét továbbra is milíciák uralják, hátráltatva az ásványkincsek kitermelését. 2020-ban két kínai vesztette életét, amikor helyi lakosok fellázadtak egy kínai üzemeltetésű bánya ellen Sosso Nakombóban. 2018-ban pedig három kínait öltek meg feldühödött lakosok, amiért egy helyi vezető életét vesztette egy hajóbalesetben, amikor kínai vájárokat kísért egy bányához. A biztonsági kihívások ellenére az országban több kínai vállalat is működik.

Jelentős veszteségeket szenvedett Wagner-csoport, miután a Közép-afrikai Köztársaságban kiújultak a harcok az orosz zsoldosok által támogatott kormányzat és a lázadók közt – írta a The Guardian.
A Wagner a Közép-afrikai Köztársaságban és Szudánban is igyekszik ellenőrzése alatt tartani néhány arany- és drágakőbányát, és részben a bevételből finanszírozzák az ukrajnai háborút is.
A The Guardian szerint két hete újultak ki a harcok, amelyekben több tucat ember halt meg. Köztük volt a Wagner-csoport néhány zsoldosa is, de nem egyértelmű, hogy hányan haltak meg.
Rajtuk ütöttünk, és beleestek a csapdánkba […] elvesztettünk két embert, és sokan megsebesültek, de legyőztük őket és sok katonai teherautót elzsákmányoltunk – ezt mondta a lázadók (Coalition of Patriots for Change) egyik vezetője, Ahmadou Ali egy telefonos interjúban.
A brit lap szerint körülbelül egy tucat orosz zsoldos halhatott meg a harcokban, de legalább 7 áldozatról biztosan tudni lehet. Ekkora veszteséget pedig a Wagner nem szenvedett Afrikában azóta, hogy 2019-ben Mozambikban iszlamista lázadókkal csaptak össze.
