A Hawaii-szigeten elhelyezkedő Kilauea aktív pajzsvulkán kitöréséről a Hawaii Vulkánfigyelő Intézete (HVO) és az Egyesült Államok Geológiai Intézete (USGS) adott ki közleményt, melynek alapján a vulkán helyi idő szerint vasárnap este fél tíz után tört ki, az első aktvitást pedig a Halemaʻumaʻu elnevezésű kráternél érzékelték először.
Mivel a vulkán aktivitása igen változékony, a kitörés miatt vörös kód van érvényben a területen, mely a legmagasabb riasztási fokozat a HVO rendszerében. Az interneten már megjelentek a vulkán kitörését megörökítő felvételek, melyeket tisztán látszik, ahogyan fekete gomolygó füst száll fel a vulkán gyomrából, pokoli narancssárga fényben úszva – írja a Sputnik News.
Az obszervatórium egyébként már szeptember óta fokozott figyelmet fordított a vulkán aktivitására, ugyanis a környéken földmozgásokat tapasztaltak a szakértők. Korábban 2018-ban volt példa a Kilauea kitörésére, a vulkán így a legaktívabbak közé sorolható Hawaii-n.
