Majdnem 20 éve tűnt el az a 16 éves lány, akinek a fejét és a kezét találták meg a hatóságok egy Coloradóban lévő fagyasztóban. A testrészekre még januárban bukkantak rá, most sikerült azonosítani azokat – számol be róla a CNN.
A megyei seriff hivatalának közleménye szerint Amanda Overstreet volt az áldozat, akinek a testrészeit megtalálták egy nemrég eladott lakás fagyasztójában. A közlemény szerint Overstreetet 2005. áprilisa óta nem látták. Amanda Overstreet az eladott ház tulajdonosának lánya volt.

Tornádók söpörtek végig az Egyesült Államok középnyugati részén pénteken. Nebraska és Iowa államban is jelentős károk keletkeztek, amikor több száz házat megrongált a vihar. A katasztrófa után néhány sérültet jelentettek, halálos áldozatokról egyelőre nem tudnak. A meteorológiai szolgálat szombatra ismét tornádófigyelmeztetést adott ki.
Tornádó csapott le Nebraska és Iowa állam egyes részeire pénteken. A legnagyobb károkat a nebraskai Omaha külvárosából jelentették, ahol több száz házat és építményt rongált meg a vihar – számolt be a CBC News.
A pusztító forgószél a mezőgazdasági területeken is károkat okozott. A katasztrófa után néhány sérültet jelentettek, halálos áldozatokról egyelőre nem tudnak.
Omaha város tűzoltóparancsnoka elmondta, hogy szombaton tovább keresik a sérülteket. A tornádó áramkimaradásokat és gázszivárgásokat okozott, a probléma elhárításán szintén dolgoznak. Rengeteg fa kidőlt, és több épület is instabillá vált.
A hatóságok közlése szerint három ember megsérült a nebraskai Lancaster megyében, amikor a vihar egy ipari épületre is lecsapott. Többen a romok alá szorultak, amikor összeomlott az épület. A tűzoltók sikeresen kihozták az embereket, a jelentések szerint nem történt életveszélyes sérülés.
Omaha térségében tornádófigyelmeztetést adtak ki péntek délután. Sokan éppen a gyermeküket hozták volna el az iskolából, így több intézmény óvóhelyeket biztosított a tanulóknak.
Egy másik tornádó Omaha keleti területére csapott le, áthaladva az Eppley Airfield, a város repülőterének egyes részein. Az emberek az óvóhelyre siettek a vihar elvonulásáig, a jelentések szerint az utasterminálban nem keletkezett kár. A repülőteret később ismét megnyitották. A pusztító szélvihar Waverly közelében egy vonatot is felborított.
Szombatra ismét tornádóriadót adott ki a meteorológiai szolgálat Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma és Texas egyes részeire. A figyelmeztetés szerint kiadós jégeső és erős széllökések is előfordulhatnak.

Fotó: REUTERS A 40 éves Mark Muffley-t azzal vádolják, hogy hétfőn a feladott bőröndjébe robbanószerkezetet rejtett a pennsylvaniai Lehigh Valley Nemzetközi Repülőtéren. A csomagot az Orlandóba tartó járatra, az Allegiant Air fapados légitársaság gépére szánta, de az átvilágítás során a reptér biztonsági személyzete kiszúrta a gyanús szerkezetet a poggyászban.
A személyzet azonnal értesítette az FBI-t és egy bombaszakértőt is, hogy vizsgálják meg a Muffley csomagjában talált tárgyat. A BBC szerint a szakértő megállapította, hogy a gurulós bőrönd bélésbe rejtett 7,5 centiméteres szerkezetben robbanóanyag és gyújtózsinór volt. A robbanóanyag egy, a tűzijátékokhoz használt granulált anyagból és villanóporból állt, amelyek keveréke képes meggyulladni hő és súrlódás hatására, ennél fogva a szerkezet valóban veszélyt jelentett az Allegiant gépének utasaira. A csomagban volt továbbá butángáz, öngyújtó, egy áramköri megszakító és egy kis kézifúró is.
A férfit a reptér hangosbemondóján keresztül a nevén szólították, mire a reptér kamerái felvették, ahogy Muffley sietve távozik. Az FBI emberei még aznap, a férfi otthonában kapták el a gyanúsítottat.

Súlyos károkat és sérüléseket okoztak tornádók az Egyesült Államok középső részén vasárnap késő este.
A hétfő reggeli jelentések szerint Oklahoma államban legalább hét helyen alakult ki tornádó. A forgószelek háztetőket és járműveket emeltek a levegőbe, fákat csavartak ki. Több tízezer háztartásban megszűnt az áramszolgáltatás. A helyi hatóságok közlése szerint összesen 12 ember sérült meg, de senki nincs súlyos állapotban közülük. Kansas államból két tornádóról érkezett beszámoló.
A tornádók mellett szintén Oklahomában és Kansasben, valamint Texas államban hurrikán erejű szélvihar csapott le. Texasban óránként 160 kilométeres széllökéseket regisztráltak, ami hármas erősségű hurrikánnak felel meg.
Kansasben a légierő McConnell bázisáról az ott állomásozó repülőgépek legnagyobb részét elővigyázatosságból előzőleg átvezényelték biztonságos bázisra – közölte a légierő.
Az északi Michigan államban újabb hóviharokat jelzett előre a meteorológiai szolgálat, miközben hétfő reggel még mindig több mint százezer háztartásban nem tudták helyreállítani az áramszolgáltatást a múlt heti hóviharok után.
További északi államokban szélviharok és tornádók veszélye miatt van érvényben riasztás hétfőre, miközben az Egyesült Államok kilenc nyugati államára télies időjárási körülmények és újabb komoly havazás miatt adott ki figyelmeztetést a meteorológiai szolgálat.
A hétvégén Kalifornia déli részén rég nem látott mennyiségű hó esett. Los Angeles környékén vasárnap a 300 méternél magasabban fekvő területeket hó borította, amire legutóbb 1989-ben volt példa.

Joe Biden amerikai és Jun Szok Jol dél-koreai elnök, valamint Kisida Fumio japán miniszterelnök a múlt hét végén a három ország közti biztonsági együttműködés fokozását jelentette be, miután háromoldalú megbeszélést folytattak a Délkelet-ázsiai Országok Szövetségének (ASEAN) csúcstalálkozóján. Az MTI beszámolója szerint a vezetők súlyos fenyegetésnek nevezték a térség stabilitására nézve, hogy Phenjan interkontinentális ballisztikus rakétákat (ICBM) is tesztelt.
Cso Szon Hui észak-koreai külügyminiszter csütörtökön reagált a phnompeni közleményre, és a KCNA hírügynökségen keresztül nyilvánosságra hozott állásfoglalásában arra figyelmeztetett: a hármak megállapodása kiszámíthatatlanabb helyzetet teremtett a régióban.
Minél intenzívebbé válnak az Egyesült Államok és szövetségeseinek provokációi a Koreai-félszigeten, annál hevesebb lesz Phenjan reagálása katonai téren – fogalmazott a miniszter.
Legutóbb november elején érkezett hír arról, hogy Észak-Korea ballisztikus rakétát lőtt ki Dél-Korea irányába. Az akkori jelentések szerint a lövéseket Dél-Korea és az Egyesült Államok kiterjesztett nagyszabású kombinált légi gyakorlatának utolsó napján hajtották végre provokációként.

A lehető legszigorúbb 9 és fél éves börtönbüntetésre ítélte Brittney Grinert a bíróság az orosz ügyészség kérésének megfelelően. A 31 éves amerikai kosarassztárt február óta tartják fogva Moszkvában „drogbirtoklás” miatt.
A bíróság a záróbeszédeket hallgatta meg az ítélethirdetés előtt, amely előkészítheti az Egyesült Államok és Oroszország közötti, nagy tétekkel járó fogolycserét. Az ügyészek 9 és fél év börtönbüntetést kértek Grinerre és egymillió rubel (17 ezer dollár) pénzbüntetést, mivel bűnösségét teljes mértékben bizonyítottnak tekintették. A sportoló ügyvédje, Maria Blagovolina ezt „nonszensznek” nevezte.
A bíróság azonban az ügyészséggel értett egyet, és a lehető legszigorúbb büntetést szabta ki az amerikai sportolóra.
A négyszeres Euroliga-győztes Jekatyerinburg és a WNBA-s Phoenix Mercury világbajnok centere az orosz fővároshoz közeli Himkiben állt bíróság elé, büntetőpere július elején kezdődött.
Griner maximálisan 10 éves büntetéssel nézett szembe, miután a múlt hónapban bűnösnek vallotta magát az ellene indított hosszadalmas perben, amely tovább élezte a két ország elmérgesedett viszonyát az ukrajnai invázió óta.
A kosarasnőt februárban vették őrizetbe a moszkvai Seremetyevó repülőtéren; az orosz hatóságok szerint kannabiszolajat tartalmazó vape-patronokat találtak a poggyászában. Griner, elismerte, hogy ezek az övéi voltak, de azt mondta, véletlenül vitte őket Oroszországba.
Ügyvédei ismét elmondták, hogy Griner csak orvosi céllal használta korábban a kannabiszt, de soha nem használta Oroszországban. Azt kérték, hogy mentésk fel Grinert, vagy a lehető legenyhébb büntetést kapja.
Nem kizárt, hogy Griner egy különleges fogolycsere-alku keretében szabadulhat: Washington ugyanis azt ajánlotta Moszkvának, hogy Grinerért – és a volt amerikai tengerészgyalogos Paul Whelanért – cserébe átadnák az oroszoknak az Amerikában 25 éves börtönbüntetését töltő orosz fegyverkereskedőt (és volt KGB-őrnagyot), Viktor Boutot. Az ügyről a két ország külügyminisztere nemrég telefonon egyeztetett.

“Szíven lőtték, és ebbe halt bele… ráadásul a fia szeme láttára” – mondta el könnyek között az áldozat unokatestvére, Nancy Garcia del Sol. A rokonok elmondása szerint hetente egy éjszakát dolgozott a Taco Bell-ben, hogy a családjának és három gyermekének plusz pénzt vihessen haza.
A rendőrség jelentése szerint hétfő kora reggelig még nem történt letartóztatás az ügyre vonatkozóan.

Több mint 1 millió új koronavírus-fertőzöttet azonosítottak az Egyesült Államokban hétfőn, ez világrekord – írja a Guardian. Eddig még egyetlen országban sem regisztráltak egy nap alatt ennyi új fertőzöttet.
Egészen pontosan 1,06 millió embernél mutatták ki a vírust, többségüknél az omikron variánst, a Johns Hopkins Egyetem adatai szerint. Ráadásul a hétfői betegszám majdnem a duplája a korábbi napi rekordnak, amit alig négy napja ért el az Egyesült Államok, akkor 590 ezer teszt lett pozitív. Az a szám egyébként a duplája volt az előző heti adatnak.
Az új fertőzöttek száma viszont még magasabb lehet a valóságban, mert sokan otthon tesztelik magukat, ezeknek az eredménye pedig nem jelenik meg a hivatalos adatokban. Az esetszámok emelkedésében az év végi ünnepek is szerepet játszhattak. A vírus egyre gyorsabban terjedése miatt több ezer iskolában halasztották el a szünetről való visszatérést, vagy álltak át távoktatásra. Joe Biden amerikai elnök hétfőn ismét buzdította az embereket az oltásra, szerinte ez az amerikai polgárok „hazafias kötelessége”.
