Egy Észak-Koreából november 21-én felbocsátott műholdfelvételeket készített egyebek között egy dél-koreai kikötőben horgonyzó amerikai repülőgép-hordozóról és hawaii amerikai katonai létesítményekről.
A KCNA észak-koreai hírügynökség szombaton arról jelentett, hogy Kim Dzsongun észak-koreai vezető néhány napon belül másodszor is ellátogatott a nemzeti repüléstechnikai hatóság műholdirányító központjába, ahol azokat fényképeket tanulmányozta, amelyeken egyebek között a dél-koreai Busanban állomásozó amerikai nukleáris meghajtású Carl Vinson repülőgép-hordozó látható, illetve megtekintette a hawaii amerikai katonai bázisokról készített fotókat.
A KCNA beszámolója szerint Kim Dzsongun szombaton látogatott az észak-koreai űrközpontba, ahol fényképeket mutattak neki friss, november 25-én „ellenséges területek felett készült fontos célpontokról.” Ezek a fotók részben dél-koreai területek fölött készültek, látható rajtuk például az amerikai haditengerészet nukleáris meghajtású repülőgép-hordozója, a USS Carl Vinson is, amely Busan katonai kikötőjében horgonyoz november 21-ike óta.
A hírügynökség szerint a műhold a Hawaii-szigetek felett is átrepült, ahol a Pearl Harbor-i haditengerészeti bázist és a Hickam légitámaszpontot fényképezte.
Észak-Korea november 21-én állította pályára a műholdat. Ezt megelőzően Phenjan augusztusban és májusban sikertelenül próbálkozott műholdfellövéssel.

Az Egyesült Államok bázisát az elmúlt hónapokban többször is megtámadták. Az ügyet ismerő források szerint az utolsó volt az eddigi legsúlyosabb támadás.
Az Al-Omar mező Szíria legnagyobb olajmezője, az amerikai bázis Deir Ezzor keleti részén található. A szíriai kormány többször is figyelmeztetett arra, hogy az amerikai erők jelenléte illegális.
