Egy biztonsági őr és egy fegyveres férfi életét vesztette a szaúd-arábiai Dzsiddában, az amerikai konzulátus mellett lezajlott lövöldözésben – közölte az amerikai külügyminisztérium szerdán.
Amerikai állampolgárok nem sérültek meg a vörös-tengeri kikötővárosban történt incidensben. Az amerikai nagykövetség és a dzsiddai konzulátus kapcsolatban áll a szaúdi hatóságokkal, amelyek vizsgálják az incidenst. A konzulátust lezárták – tájékoztatott a washingtoni külügyi szóvivő.
„Megállt egy autó a konzulátus épületének közelében, és kiszállt belőle egy férfi lőfegyverrel a kezében, ezért a biztonsági hatóságok az előírások szerint eljártak vele szemben. A kialakult tűzpárbaj a fegyveres halálával ért véget” – közölte a szaúd-arábiai régió rendőrségének szóvivője.
A konzulátus magán biztonsági őrségének egy nepáli tagja belehalt a lövöldözésben kapott sebesülésébe – jelentette az SPA szaúdi hírügynökség.
Az amerikai konzulátus ellen több támadás történt az elmúlt években. 2016-ban egy öngyilkos robbantásban életét vesztette a merénylő, és két ember megsebesült a képviselet közelében.

A rakétákat Iránból indították el, amikkel az amerikai konzulátus épületére céloztak Erbílben.
Akár egy tucat rakétát is kilőhettek Iránból vasárnap éjjel az Egyesült Államok konzulátusa felé Erbílben, amit a tisztviselők már megerősítettek. Egyelőre áldozatokról nem érkezett jelentés, bár az iraki és az amerikai tisztviselők eltérő módon számoltak be a súlyos eseményről.
Az amerikai külügyminisztérium szóvivője az AP kérdésére elmondta, felháborító támadásnak tartják, ami történt, amivel az iraki szuverenitást célozták meg. A neve elhallgatását kérő tisztviselő elmondása szerint egyetlen amerikai sem sérült meg a rakétatámadásban, és az új konzulátus épületében sem keletkezett kár, ami jelenleg üresen áll.
A New York Post hozzáteszi, az irakiak szerint akár 12 rakétát is indíthattak Iránból, amikkel a konzulátust vették célba, melyek anyagi kárt okoztak. Nem sokkal éjfél után történt a támadás, és egyelőre az irakiak oldaláról sem számoltak be áldozatokról.
A támadást az iraki kormány és a regionális kurd kormány is vizsgálja. További részleteket nem tettek közzé, az amerikai tisztviselők nem tudták megerősíteni, hogy milyen típusú rakétákat lőttek ki Iránból. A támadás napokkal azután történt, hogy egy izraeli légicsapásban meghalt az iráni Forradalmi Gárda két tagja Damaszkusz közelében Szíriában. Az iráni külügyminisztérium határozottan elítélte a támadást, és bosszút fogadott.
