Közleményében Guterres elítélte a világszervezet munkatársai ellen elkövetett támadásokat, azonnali humanitárius tűzszünetet, illetve az övezetbe hurcolt túszok elengedését követelte.
Az ENSZ aláhúzta, hogy most először öltek meg az övezetben külföldi – tehát nem palesztin – ENSZ-alkalmazottat, kiemelve, hogy a világszervezet munkatársai által használt, tűz alá vett járművön egyértelműen fel volt tüntetve, hogy kik utaznak benne.
Ugyancsak hétfőn izraeli légitámadás érte az övezet középső részén található Nuszejrát menekülttábort, a műveletben a Wafa palesztin hírügynökség adatai szerint 14-en meghaltak, köztük több gyerek.
Mindeközben az ENSZ palesztin menekülteket segélyező ügynöksége (UNRWA) az X-en azt közölte, hogy több mint 150 ezer várandós nő van veszélyben a rendkívül rossz egészségügyi körülmények miatt.
„Egyetlen gyermeket sem szabad ilyen szenvedéseknek kitenni. Azonnali tűzszünetre van szükség” – olvasható az üzenetben.
Az Oxfam nemzetközi segélyszervezet pedig járványok kialakulására figyelmeztetett, aláhúzva, hogy becslések szerint mintegy 210 millió dollárnyi (75,3 milliárd forint) kár keletkezhetett az övezet víz- és szennyvíztisztítási infrastruktúrájában, valamint a tömeges kitelepítések és a nyári hőség közeledte miatt. Közleményében a szervezet felhívta a figyelmet arra, hogy az utcákon csorog a szennyvíz, a pocsolyák körül élősködő bogarak pedig sok gyereket megcsípnek.
A háború tavaly októberi kezdete óta a halálos áldozatok száma a Gázai övezetben meghaladta a 35 ezret, a sebesülteké a 79 ezret a helyi hatóságok keddi tájékoztatása szerint. Az utóbbi 24 órában 82 palesztint öltek meg és 234 sebesültről tudni – tették hozzá a tájékoztatásban.

Hozzátette: a pénzügyi segítség nem nagylelkűség, hanem igazságosság kérdése. Guterres közölte: amit az ENSZ tesz Pakisztánban, az csupán egy csepp a tengerben ahhoz képest, amire szükség lenne. Az ENSZ-főtitkár pénteken érkezett kétnapos látogatásra Pakisztánba, hogy felmérje a katasztrófa mértékét.
Közel 1400 ember vesztette életét eddig
A júniusi monszun okozta, korábban nem látott hevességű árvíz eddig 1396 emberéletet követelt, egyharmaduk gyermek. A víz Nagy-Britanniánál nagyobb területet árasztott el. A sérültek száma 12 728. Pakisztáni látogatása második napján Guterres hangsúlyozta: a fejlődő országok fizetik meg annak az árát, hogy a világ a fosszilis energiáktól függ.
„Pakisztán és más fejlődő országok rettenetes árat fizetnek a nagy (üvegházhatásúgáz-) kibocsátók miatt, akik továbbra is a fosszilis energiákat részesítik előnyben. Az emberiség a természettel háborúzik, és a természet visszavág” – írta a főtitkár a Twitteren, mielőtt elindult a déli országrészben tett látogatására.
„Iszlámábádból szólítom fel önöket: állítsák le ezt az őrültséget. Fektessenek be mostantól a megújuló energiaforrásokba. Vessenek véget a természet elleni háborúnak” – tette hozzá.
