Legalább 13 ember életét vesztette az argentin Bahía Blanca várost sújtó áradásokban – jelentette több helyi médium Javier Alonsóra, Buenos Aires tartomány biztonsági miniszterére hivatkozva.
A helyzet „abszolút kritikus”, a város „elpusztult” – mondta Patricia Bullrich biztonsági miniszter egy rádióinterjúban.
Bár a víz összességében visszahúzódott, sok városrész még víz alatt van. A miniszter szerint 1200 embert evakuáltak. A 13 áldozatból eddig hetet azonosítottak.
Azt egyelőre nem lehet tudni, hogy hányan tűntek el, mivel sok lakos el volt vágva a kommunikációtól, mert nem volt áram a mobiltelefonok töltéséhez.
A mintegy 330 ezer lakosú, Buenos Aires tartomány déli részén, a fővárostól 600 kilométerre az Atlanti-óceán partján fekvő városra pénteken csapott le a súlyos vihar. A meteorológiai szolgálat szerint Bahía Blancában 24 óra alatt négyzetméterenként 210 milliméternyi csapadék hullott – ez az évi átlagos csapadékmennyiség mintegy harmada.
Ennek következtében Bahía Blanca szinte teljesen víz alá került. Utakat és házakat öntött el a víz. A kórházakat evakuálni kellett, és családok tucatjai kerestek menedéket a szükségszállásokon. A tömegközlekedést leállították, a repülőteret pedig lezárták.
A kormány rendőröket és katonákat vezényelt a városba a mentési munkálatokra, és 10 milliárd pezó (mintegy 8,6 millió euró) összegű támogatást hagyott jóvá a károk helyreállítására.

Összeomlott egy tízemeletes szálloda Buenos Aires argentin tartomány egyik tengerparti üdülővárosában, egy ember életét vesztette, többen az épület romjai alatt rekedtek – közölte kedden a tartomány közbiztonsági minisztériuma.
A hatósági jelentések szerint egy nyolcvanas éveiben járó férfi vesztette életét. Az EFE hírügynökség értesülései szerint a hajnali órákban összedőlt épület romjai alól sikerült kiszabadítani egy nyolcvanas éveiben járó nőt, akit kórházba szállítottak. Javier Alonso közbiztonsági miniszter és Gustavo Barrera, Villa Gesell város polgármestere is a helyszínre érkezett.
Villa Gesell önkormányzata augusztusban szerkezeti szabálytalanságokra hivatkozva leállította a Dubrovnik nevű apartmanhotel átépítését. Hatósági információk szerint a földszinti részen ugyan engedélyeztek kisebb változtatásokat, de az épület hátsó részén levő emeleteken engedély nélkül történtek átalakítások.
Korábbi hatósági jelentések arról számoltak be, hogy 7-9 ember, köztük az építkezésen dolgozó munkások rekedtek az épület alatt, amelynek 80 százaléka összeomlott.
A helyszínre küldött mentőalakulatok környező települések önkéntes tűzoltóival kiegészülve próbálják eltávolítani a törmeléket túlélők után kutatva – közölték a hatóságok.

Javier Milei argentin elnök hivatala az X-en közzétett bejegyzésben gratulált a hatóságoknak, amiért kiválóan cselekedtek a feltehetően puccskísérletre törekvő terrorista csoportok visszaszorításában.
Az eset idején a szenátus a Milei kormánya által előterjesztett reformcsomagról tárgyalt, amely a többi közt számos állami vállalat privatizációjával, a nagybefektetők adókedvezményével, valamint munkaerőpiaci és adóreformokkal kapcsolatos lépéseket is magában foglal. A szenátus végül szűk többséggel elfogadta a javaslatot, amely most ismét az alsóház elé kerül.
A reformcsomagot határozottan elutasítják az argentin baloldali ellenzéki pártok, illetve egyes társadalmi csoportok, amelyek szerint a tervezett intézkedések még kiszolgáltatottabbá teszik majd a munkavállalókat a növekvő munkanélküliség és infláció közepette.
Argentínában jelenleg nő a szegénységben élők aránya, az infláció pedig éves szinten a 300 százalékot is eléri. A kormány szerint a tervezett reformok beindítják a beruházásokat és felgyorsítják a gazdasági növekedést.

Százezrek tüntettek helyi idő szerint kedden Argentínában a felsőoktatási rendszert sújtó megszorítások ellen.
A Buenos Aires-i Egyetem közlése szerint több mint félmillióan vonultak az utcákra, hogy tiltakozzanak a Javier Milei elnök által bevezetett szigorú takarékossági program miatt.
„Kiállunk a nyitott és szabad egyetemi közoktatás védelmében, amely népünk egyik fontos vívmánya, és amelyet nem fogunk feladni” – mondta Adolfo Pérez Esquivel Nobel-békedíjas argentin művész a kormány székhelye előtt tartott központi demonstráción.
Az argentin oktatási rendszer az egyik legjobbnak számít Latin-Amerikában. Az egyetemi oktatás ingyenes, és a környező országokból sok fiatal tanul tovább Argentínában.
Az argentin kormány nemrég drasztikus mértékben, 71 százalékkal csökkentette az állam által fenntartott egyetemek költségvetését. A La Nación című napilap jelentése szerint, ha az állam nem növeli a forrásokat, a Buenos Aires-i Egyetem az év közepe után nem fogja tudni kifizetni a béreket az alkalmazottainak.
Az országot évek óta súlyos gazdasági válság sújtja.
A tavaly decemberben hivatalba lépett, ultraliberális politikát követő Milei szigorú megszorítási csomagot vezetett be, több ezer munkahelyet megszüntetett az állami szektorban, csökkentette a támogatásokat, és karcsúsította a szociális programokat.
Hétfőn – több mint 15 éve először – azt közölték a hatóságok, hogy az első negyedévben költségvetési többlet mutatkozott.
Az új államfő bírálói szerint azonban az intézkedések sok embert szegénységbe taszítanak, és például az oktatási szektort érintő megszorítások hosszabb távon is veszélybe sodorhatják az ország jövőjét.

Általános sztrájk kezdődött szerdán Argentínában Javier Milei elnök kormányának reformtervei ellen.
A munkabeszüntetésre a dél-amerikai ország legnagyobb szakszervezete, a CGT szólított fel, de más szakszervezetek is csatlakoztak hozzá. Az érintett ágazatok között van a tömegközlekedés, a közigazgatás és az egészségügy is.
A sztrájk miatt szerdán repülőjáratokat kellett törölni, a tömegközlekedés egy része leállt, a bankok korábban bezártak.
A tiltakozó akció különösen Milei harminc intézkedést tartalmazó vészhelyzeti rendeletcsomagja ellen irányul, amely felfüggeszt a munkaerő- és ingatlanpiacot szabályozni hivatott több törvényt.
A rendelet egy részét argentin bíróságok ugyanakkor már hatályon kívül helyezték.
A vészhelyzeti csomaggal a kormány kiterjesztené saját jogköreit is, hogy olyan kérdésekben is dönthessen, amelyek jelenleg kizárólagos kongresszusi hatáskörbe tartoznak.
A vitatott reformokat csütörtökön tárgyalja a kongresszus, ahol a kormány nem bír többséggel.
„Semmilyen sztrájk sem állíthat meg minket, semmilyen fenyegetés sem félemlít meg minket” – hangoztatta Patricia Bullrich közbiztonsági miniszter az X közösségi oldalon. A kormány mindazonáltal már eddig jelentősen átdolgozta eredeti elképzeléseit, hogy elnyerje az ellenzék támogatását.

A vihar egy tengerparti várost érintett a legsúlyosabban, s 13 ember életét követelte.
Federico Susbielles, Bahia Blanca argentin tengerparti város polgármestere számolt be arról szombaton, hogy egy súlyos vihar csapott le a dél-amerikai ország atlanti-óceáni partvidékére, melynek következtében legkevesebb 13 ember életét vesztette. A polgármester egy, az X-en közzétett bejegyzésében erősítette meg a halálos áldozatok számát.
A Reuters jelentése szerint a heves vihar által leginkább érintett város Buenos Aires tartomány déli csücskéhez, Argentína egyik legfontosabb gabonatermelő régiójához fekszik közel. Nem sokkal később Javier Milei elnök hivatala közleményben fejezte ki részvétét az áldozatok családjainak, s azt javasolta a helyieknek, hogy vasárnap reggelig maradjanak otthonukban, mivel a masszív széllökések sebessége meghaladta a 150 km/órát is.
